Did you have an engagement party?
What did you do?
Where did you have it?
Who did you invite?
We are planning to have our party in Feb, and were thinking of just having it at our house since we have the kids and lotsof our friends have kids it would be hard to find somewhere suitable. Not to mention all the stuff we will have to cart with us.
We cannot afford a big fancy wedding so our engagement party will be big, we will invite all our family and friends and probably do a byo Bbq in the arvo followed by drinks and nibbles in the evening.
I would like to organise some games to get everyone to mingle and make it more fun.
Any suggestions?
We didn't do anything - sorry.

I think people games are good where you have to find something out about the person... or do a treasure hunt eg finding 4 people born in april (for example) and when you finish 3 in a row it is BINGO...
Our engagement was at the place where we had our first date. We invited everyone and paid for nibblies drinks and a band and everyone paid for their mains (instead of buying us a gift!) . Because of the numbers we werent asked to pay for the venue and everyone had a great time. I had around 150 there from memory
We didnt do anything and I doubt that we will. I am having enough trouble organising the bloody wedding.

We had ours at my Mum's partners place, it has a great big outdoor area which was just perfect.. We had fairy lights up everywhere, candle on all the tables, gorgeous flowers everywhere.. We also had floating candles in the pool..
We had about 60 or so people, some family, friends etc.. It was great!! My mum and grandmother cooked all the food, heaps of yummy things and mini cakes for everyone for dessert!! It was a great night wouldnt have changed a thing!!!:cloud9:

We celebrated ours mostly with friends, for similar reasons as you (minus the kids as none of us had any). We had lots of yummy finger foods and we had now PIL's teach us all some simple progressive latin dances which got everyone mingling and having fun! and depending on the kids ages could incorporate the kids into it too (they were learning latin and we went along to a few of the "dance parties" and had some 4-6 yo's who caught on really quickly!)

We had family and friends over of an evening and had drinks, finger foods and music and cake :bee:
We got engaged a few weeks before we went to Fiji and eloped so we told everyone the date of our engagement party which has now turned into our wedding party since everyone has received their invitations :)
We are having a party at our house this Saturday night from 5pm to 10pm and then we are heading out on the town after. We have 50ppl coming, mostly friends and the only family is our parents, brothers and their partners.
We have almost finished landscaping our yard and it has come together nicely. We have set up some fairy lights and firesticks and i'll be putting up balloons and decorations on Sat. We have supplied a BBQ dinner and grog and we are having a wedding cake. And we are just using my ipod played through our stereo for music.
Fingers crossed it doesnt rain! :rain:

We had our Engagement Party in a function room at a Golf Club. We invited around 120 of our family and friends and we had a buffet dinner. I did all the decorating etc and I had ppl asking me when they arrived was this our surprise wedding lol I just wanted it to be perfect and I guess it kinda was a pre wedding  Good Luck with it all:flowerz:

all we did was.....
get married 5 weeks later......
and no, we weren't pregant!! Just wanted to get married!!! When my man proposed he asked me to marry him, not get engaged and get around to marriage at some stage when it suited him!!!
We had a massive marquee set up in the back yard and well it was a shocker with alcohol (not me of course)....but we had a few casualties there.
I found out I was pregnant, had my 21st and got engaged all in one month. So by the engagement I think everyone was sick of me grabbing all the attention:laughing:
We just had a small gathering with friends(about 30 ppl)at my place.I still had all the fairy lights and stuff up from my 21st party LOL.I just did the catering and we brought some alcohol.
Nothing major. It was pretty sucky for me coz I couldnt even drink:thumbsdown:Made up for it at the wedding tho haha.
Just do what you feel comfy with-save the grand celebration for the wedding!

We had ours just last weekend! It was in our backyard, just set up tarps everywhere and had some random tables laid out (we brought some from lifeline and others collected from council clean up :o along with some chairs). Luckily after pouring all day the rain subsided enough for the party!
For Decorations we put our xmas lights up around the backyard and some balloons left over from my baby shower!
We had the food prepared for us by a spit roast catering company, got a good deal few months back for booking before december and was able to get free desserts and nibbles! So all we had to do was hire a bain maire and have some plates etc for people.
Oh and we supplied beer, wine and softs but most people byo spirits so we had heaps left over!
We had around 60 adults and about 10 kiddies running around.
We didnt have any games or anything everyone seemed to mingle quite well on their own. We did have our stereo playing music but no one seemed to notice it when the cd would finish! So we just mingled most of the night and posed for a few photos while cutting the cake mum brought us, and said thanks for all for coming - no speeches from anyone else (not our sorta thing)
