I guess this question is more for the 2nd/3rd time mums but first time mums please answer too. I've been thinking about what I would like to do the same/differently than last time once this bub arrives. What are you planning to do this time??

Birth

Last time I was induced at 11 days over and ended up with an epidural, a episiotomy and vacuum. It wasn't the worst delivery from what I have heard other people experienced but I would like to go more natural this time :fingerscrossed:

Feeding

I had lots of trouble getting breastfeeding going well last time and ended up comping with formula in the beginning. I would like to exclusively breastfeed right from the start this time. Hopefully I should know what I am doing although you never know! I b/f DD for 20mo and am planning to go for a similar time again.

Sleeping

DD sleeps in a cot but we did go to sleep school at 12weeks to get her in there! Hopefully this time I'm going to try more wrapping and get bub into a better sleep habit earlier. We used a dummy up until 7mo and I don't regret it but if this baby doesn't need one I won't be introducing it.

Prams/wraps/carriers

We have a basic pram that we used for walks around the neighbourhood but I much preferred to use a baby carrier at the shops. This time I'm planning on getting an ergo and maybe a hug a bub since it will be winter and nice and cool.

Birth

Hoping for a natural birth, really dont want a c section (unless of course its life or death situation) Going to do hypnobirthing classes during late pregnancy to help with natural birth.

Feeding

Hopefully plan to breast feed for around 6 months.

Sleeping

Basinette, In with Us, Cot. Thinking we will get one of those cots that turns into a bed, or a day bed or even a double bed. Lots of uses.

Prams/wraps/carriers

Have bought an Emmaljunga pram, came with basinette and normal pram. Definately plan on getting some sort of carrier. (can any one recomend the best one??)

BIRTH
Will be a ceaser as I had an emergency with ds and have discussed with the dr that it is prob the best option - and am completely fine with it

FEEDING
Will be bottle feeding from the beginning as did with ds.

SLEEPING
in our room in a basenette to begin with and then cot hopefully, ds hates his cot so sleeps in a porta cot so cot is pretty much brand new!!! - and will learn NOT to rock and pat!!

PRAMS
not sure what pram i will get, I still have ds jeep 3 wheeler but want a new one because it really destroyed the car pulling it in and out and took up so much space - plus not sure if i want a toddler seat or a buggy board or something for ds so will have to go do some shopping and research

WRAPS
I never really wrapped ds, so would prefer not to with this one unless he/she needs it

CARRIERS
I might try a sling but never really used my front carrier with ds, I have a bad back and big boobs so was uncomfortable - but i want to try a sling because they look so cosy

Oh I forgot about the old cloth vs disposable question!!

With DD I bought quite a lot of expensive modern cloth nappies and to be honest they hardly got used. Maybe I will be more organised this time and get to make use of my investment but I won't be too worried if I don't. Disposable is so much easier.

We used a basinette for the first few weeks too. Great for keeping baby next to you when they are brand new. I think DD moved into her cot at 6 weeks mainly because she just grew too big for it.

Our problem with sleeping was DD was addicted to going to sleep breastfeeding and in our bed. While it worked for us for a little while, it soon became a big sleep problem:thumbsdown:. (Dear GOD: Please please send us a good sleeper this time...thank you!!)

Birth

Last time I was induced at 38 weeks due to developing gestational diabetes. I had tape put in then my waters broken, given pethadeine & an epi and ended with a c-section due to distress. My OB was told by the csan that the baby was bigger than 9lbs so encouraged me to have a c-section. This time I have adjusted my diet from as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I know that this may not mean that I dont get GD again but it will mean that I will not develop a large baby becuase I have a healthy diet and exercise.

If I develop GD and am put on medication again I know I will be induced again. But this time I want to hold out on the epi and try to just use gas and pethadeine.

If GD does not come up I would like to stay home as long as possible before admitting myself. Once in hospital I will try to progress with gas and pethadeine.

I am searching for a Doula to help me and an considering accupuncture to help me relax and assist me with my pain tolerance.

Feeding

I am currently still BF my 10 month old DD. I was wanting to gradually wean her off between 12 and 18 months but now that bub #2 is due when she would be 18 months I have decided to wean DD at 12 months and give my boobs a bit of a break.

I had no problems with BF. A few days of sore, bleeding nipples but on the whole it was great.

Sleeping

DD was in a cot straight out of hospital. It was a Boori cot so huge in comparison to her tiny body. It was probably one of the better things I have done. I didnt want to make her transition too much i.e. hospital - bassinette - cot - bed. The rails of her cot come off to ajust to a toddler bad so she should have any probs there.

Prams/wraps/carriers

This is where Im stuck. Since DD will only be 18 months I dont want her to have to sit in a toddler seat attachment all the time. Sometimes she gets sleepy and wants to lie in the pram whilst we are out and I wouldnt want to takw that away from her. At the moment I have a Steelcraft 4 wheeler Enigma & a Childcare 3 wheeler which we take walking. I am thinking of selling both & getting a Phil & Teds 3 wheeler where bubs can lie under. I will have to investigate more.

I love carriers too. We might be ok putting DD in a single pram and carrying bubs in the carrier.

Dunno lots of investigating to do.

DISPOSIBLE ALL THE WAY>>>>>>>>>sorry Mother Nature.

Birth: Hopefully another spotaneous vaginal birth like with Wyatt. He was 11 hours from start to finish. He was 37 weeks.

Feeding: Hoping to BF fully this time around and hopefully will have more support and information at my finger tips to help that. I BF Wyatt for 2 weeks before I starting drying up from stress and lack of support.

Sleeping: Pretty flexible for the first few months, just going with the flow, otherwise no one will get sleep.
Whether they sleep in a cot from day dot and like doing so or co sleeping with me, Im happy either way.
I did the same thing with DS.

Prams/Carriers: Hoping to track down a nice cloth sling and already have a pram, DS refuses to use it now he's 3, dont blame him

Having said all this, Im just going with the flow and doing whatever comes naturally and bub's is happy :)

BIRTH
I am hoping that i can i have another vaginal birth. I loved it last time (even though DS was 10lb!) I am going to try going drug free again (only had gas!!) Also i want to stay at home for as long as possible. Like cheezels i had GD last time, however i was not induced . I went into hospy and 2 days later had DS. I am hoping to have my mum in the room, and not sure about DS, maybe not in the last stage.

FEEDING
I am hoping to BF for at least 12 months. I had a terrible time with DS, i dried up quickly due to stress and depression. This time i will be much more prepared for it, thanks greatly to the hub and the girls!!!

SLEEPING
I have been given a bassinette from my aunty, bubs will be in our room until he/she is big enough for the cot, which I have already.

PRAMS
I think we will use the one that i had for DS. We are looking for a toddler seat, and a board thingy for DS. He will be nearly 3 when bubs is born, so i think he will be big enough.

WRAPS
I want to get a fabric sling, i have looked at a few on different sites and they look soo comfy.

CARRIERS
Not sure if i want one of these, i had one with DS and due to a bad back and huge boobs, i found it very uncomfortable worn either way.

NAPPIES
Since i won a heap of MCN in the nappy hunt i will be using them!!! If i find them too hard then i will be using sposies.

34Me, stop watching those video's

Every birth and labour is very different to the rest. I personally, strung myself from the ceiling weeks leading up to the birth after watching a video on vaginal births... I ended up having a really positive birth with DS.

I wont lie, it will hurt, but you can choose how to deal with the pain, my advice is to look at it positively and work out between now and the birth how to deal with the pain, ie with water/shower, music, relaxation etc...

I agree with Beth. You will scare yourself.

It does hurt, but the pain is like nothing you know and nothing you can describe.

We make HUGE babies in our family and my partner is 196cm tall!(Im 165)

34me - My husband is 6'4'' (I can't remember how many cm) and very heavily set. I am 172cm. My DD was 4.3kg when she was born but luckily, tall with only an average head size. From what I gather, the problem usually occurs if a. The baby's head is very big and b. The mother has a very petite narrow pelvis.

Those two things don't occur too often so you should be fine.:hugs:

Most "big" babies are actually just carrying a lot of fat rather than being too big to be born vaginally.

I agree with the others....try not to get too focussed on the scariness of a vb. While it will hurt every birth is individual and there are things you can do to manage the pain, whether that is more natural methods or drugs.

And also try to remember that it is only 1 (or 2) days in your life which will also be the happiest. There is nothing like holding your baby that you have waited so long to see :cloud9:

Feeding: Hoping to BF fully this time around and hopefully will have more support and information at my finger tips to help that. I BF Wyatt for 2 weeks before I starting drying up from stress and lack of support.

Now I think back, stress was a big reason why I think I had supply problems early on too. Learning to breastfeed can be such an isolating+frustrating+painful experience and we don't get enough support during the first few weeks.

When I was at my lowest point I bought a plane ticket for my mum to come and help me. We had never had a good relationship growing up but she did b/f me until 6mo so I thought she would be able to help. I think that helped me a lot. It wasn't that she told me anything that I didn't know, rather that she told me I was doing a good job and helped out with the little things around the house so all I had to focus on was breastfeeding.

Even though I b/f DD for 20mo I sometimes get a bit worried thinking, "will I be able to do it again??"

Birth

Probably another ceasar - last one was an emergency due to pre-eclampsia. I am sure I will be monitored this time. I live in Mackay, Central Queensland and requesting a VBAC may be difficult.

Feeding

I am saving myself the pain and putting the next bub on the bottle straight away. I will try and feed the baby colostrum though as that is where all the antibodies are.

Sleeping

straight into the cot like the last one in their own room. Probably will start a form of self settling from the beginning.

Prams etc

going to buy a pram with a toddler seat

Nappies

disposables
