Considering our varying baby experience I thought that it may be useful to list our must have items - they can be for Mum or or bub.

Kind of like Oprah's favourite things...or am I the only dag who watched that...:D

I have found that my must have items are: (care of Mum)
- sudocream, for nappy rash
- muslin wraps for our summer bubs
- cloth nappies for wipe cloths

Cot
bouncer
swing (lifesaver when Annabelle wouldn't sleep, it was the only way to get her to!)

I'm sure there's more, but I'm not really in the mindframe for this question!

baby carrier - mine was a life saver with the last one. Especially if there is not room for a pram in the shop

Ural - for stitches. - attempting to pee without it is more painful then giving birth.

#singlet suits for bubs as the singlets just ride up under their clothes
#johnsons sorbolene cream, great for adding a few squirts to bubs bath much gentler than the baby washes and bub comes out smelling nice and is moisturised at the same time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - LANSINOH for helping to heal cracked nipples.

PawPaw ointment - can be used as a barrier cream at nappy changes and on nipples. It doesn't help if you've got a bad crack use lansinoh, but small ones or just sucking sores its great because you don't have to wipe it off before the feed.

Bec, you can get Lucas' Paw Paw ointment at the chemist, in either a red tube or a red jar :)

My absolute must have, can't live without items...

For bub -
Cornflour - Best possible thing for combatting nappy rash, it's cheap, chemical and fragrance free!

For Mum -
Lansinoh - Great for combatting sore/cracked nipples while establishing breastfeeding but also great for chaffing, dry nose and cracked lips! (tip - start using it now on your nipples before bubs arrives!)

Best piece of advice I could give to any new mum -
Completely forget about all housework, don't give a cr*p what your house looks like in those first few weeks and just sleep, sleep, sleep! Sleep whenever bubs sleeps, no matter what time of day, it will seriously save your sanity. Housework will wait, sleep is more important!

How about a hand sanitizer (the new dettol or the like, can't remember the name of the original off the top of my head)?

A little bottle in the nappy bag for hygeine anywhere, a bottle beside the bed or near the change table for middle of the night nappy changes.

I have always carried hand sanitizer (the Milton one) even before DD was born. I absolutely refuse to wash my hands in public toilets (what's the point, you need to touch a dirty tap after you wash your hands and touch the dirty door on the way out) so I wait until I leave the public toilet, then use my hand sanitizer and it's also great for after nappy changes, definitley saves the hassle of having to wash your hands 10 times a day LoL

Spew rags lol, like bibs or we used the cloth nappies we had, to use for burping.
