Seeings we are all getting advanced in our pregnancies i thought it would be fun to make a thread that we can write in about all the stuff we have brought and share pictures of what we have for our bubbas as the months pass. :baby:

I will go first!

I have brought a cot and draws (cupboard type thing) with a change table on top of it.

I have also brought a stand and net that goes around the cot to keep out mosquitoes as they are terrible in my area.

I will be hopefully picking it all up on friday if i can arrange a trailer need to find a friend with one, as i need trailer to pick it up as its already set up :smiliedance: I brought the one off the floor, saves the stress of setting it up.

When i pick it up i will take pics and show you all.

Next thing on my list is pram and capsule.

how exciting Kayla, ah the joys of being a 1st time mum, with maddy i brought sooooo much stuff, because she was a surprise and me being a 1st time mum i brought everything blue and pink lol.

i have no idea what to buy this time around!??!

so far i have brought a new pram, its a 3 wheeler with a toddler seat attached to the front as maddy will be 2 when bub is born (im due on the 21st and maddys bday is on the 19th :p)

the only other thing i can think of that i want is a maxirider carseat for maddy, new bub will be using maddys carseat that she used as a newborn.

what else am i supposed to get?!!?

Here are a list of important things, of course its not everything but its a start to help out these who might not no what to get, please feel free to add anything! or suggest things you might not need on here.
I have a really good list but its too big too copy and paste in here if anyone wants it let me no and i can email it.

Things to get:

• Nappies. As newborn babies will need their nappies changed 10-12 times a day, buy enough nappies to keep you going for at least the first few days or so. If you are planning to use reusable nappies, it's a good idea to have at least one packet of disposables handy too.

• Baby wipes or cotton wool, for nappy changing.

• A changing mat, or a changing unit.

• Babygros. Three or four babygros or all-in-one sleepsuits will be very handy. Small babies tend to live in these in their first few months and really don't need to wear anything else, apart from a vest underneath in winter months, or a cardigan over the top if it is very cold.

• Baby vests/body suits. At least three or four vests, also known as body suits, are essential, with envelope necks and poppers underneath. These can be worn under babygros, or when the weather is very hot, a baby vest may be all your baby needs to wear.

• One or two blankets to wrap your baby in.

• One or two cardigans to provide an extra layer.

• An all-in-one warm suit with poppers beneath the legs is useful if your baby is born in winter.

• Moses basket or cot, unless your baby will be sleeping in your bed.

• A mattress which fits the Moses basket, cot or crib.

• Cot sheets and cellular blankets, or a bottom sheet and a baby sleeping bag.

• A baby bath (or you can use a washing up bowl), or a newborn bath support.

• A couple of small towels and some mild baby bath.

• A rear-facing car seat, if your baby will be travelling by car.

• A pram, pushchair or buggy that is suitable for newborn babies (with a lie-flat position).

• Nursing bras and breast pads if you are breastfeeding.

• Bottles, teats, bottle brushes and some sterilising method, if you are bottle feeding.

well i haven't actually bought anything for my bubs yet!!! I've been given a few pressies already, but mostly toy related or maternity clothing! hahaa :P

I would love to start buying, but i'm just not sure where to start, and as we are going to be moving around May next year i'm hesitant to start a 'baby room', even though i would love to!!

That list you provided looks great Kayla, if anyone can add to it, that would be very handy for this first mum to be!

Also we aren't going to find out the sex of the baby, so any hints on clothing options if your not sure? I guess Lemon and Green might be the flavour we go with! hehe

White is good too! Nice and unisex. You'll find that people give you heaps of clothes once bubs is born, so I wouldn't go too overboard on that side of things. I did with Isaac, and he was a big bub and grew so quickly and we got given so much that he only wore some things once before growing out of them!

We don't have too much to buy this time around. Which is a bit sad, I love looking at baby stuff! We need to buy a new pram, but we don't have the money at the moment, so we'll put that off for a while yet. I bought a new bouncer for the baby the other day. We have a rocker/toddler seat thing already, but Isaac loves it and he can still use it as it's designed for toddlers too, so I thought it would be better for everyone concerned to get a new bouncer for the baby :D It was reduced too, so even better!

Kayangel - I'd suggest hiring a baby capsule, not buying one. Babies are only in capsules for such a short amount of time. We hired a capsule for Isaac and we'll be hiring one again this time around. JMO!

OOH yes white of course would be great! haha didn't even think of it! That's true it is hard to know how much clothing to buy at what sizes cause apparently they just grow so fast!!! Just have to be prepared, but play it by ear...like most things!

What about natural colors- like creams and beige (that sounds bad but i have been seeing some lovely infant wear in earthy colours lately. Have a look at the funky unisex stuff (http://www.babywit.com/ZIO51004001WB.html) you can get at this online shop

I have really only purchased 1 thing so far (and hubby purchased 1 thing too). My mum is knitting a green cot blanket and I am knitting a cream blanket (although I am a terrible knitter and the pattern is a little wonky in places!!)

So far we have a red bugaboo pram (http://www.babybunting.com.au/product_info.php?product_id=df9028fcb6b065e000ffe8 a4f03eeb38&name=1763&title=Bugaboo%20Cameleon%20Red) and a Mac Pac Vamoose carrier (http://www.macpac.co.nz/public_catalogue/displayItemCode/item,Vamoose/code,VAMOU08) (although, that is for 6month+.... obviously hubby got that one).
Both items were purchased from ebay for HALF PRICE!!! Yay for saving $$$!

What I would like is a Leander Cot (http://www.babybunting.com.au/product_info.php?product_id=0233f3bb964cf325a30f8b 1c2ed2da93) and some clothes from here (http://www.babywit.com/ZIO51004001WB.html) and this is the coolest high chair (http://www.modernnursery.com/itemsDetail.cfm/bloombabyNanoUrbanFoldingHighchair/0/pcid/12/cid/38/item_num/BM-FR) ever........

I think we might go on a shopping spree after new year. Post Christmas sales?? Does that exist in baby world?

Isaac's Mummy- Thanks for the suggestion! but i am wanting to buy everything brand new as this is my first bubba and im so excitied! also i want to buy the capsule and pram as a set its actually not that dear only around $500 but thank you again for your suggestion im always up for advice from women who have had bubs already.

katiemaree- Look like you have some great stuff picked out!

We've bought some clothes, and lots of disposable nappies when they were on special!

Still doing my research into the big ticket items.

Found a place that does package deals on baby stuff - emailed them a list and they've come back with a good price for Boori cot and mattress, car seat, bassinet and some other bits and pieces.

But we're going to see if somewhere closer can either match the price or do better, otherwise we have a big drive to pick it up, or will have to pay shipping.

I can't wait to find out next week if we're having a boy or girl so i can go crazy with the clothes shopping!

Pixie
25-11-2007, 08:04 PM
Um nothing! :D When we find out the sex we if it's a boy will buy things then. If it's a girl well it can have Eliza's stuff most of it is really nice quality stuff so good for a few more rounds yet!

Well we are sooooo excited and have bought quite a bit already.

Play mat - fisher price jungle theme
lots of clothes for both sexes and some unisex
sheets and blankets
toys
All clothes are hanging up on baby coat hangers

We havent bought all the big stuff yet but have it all picked out and will buy it when we go down to adelaide after Christmas. here is what we are getting

Borri sleigh cot
Borri change table
Borri Book case
Chair and footstall for breast feeding
little table and light next to chair
Mountain Buggy Urban Elite with carry cot
Baby bjorn bouncer
Baby bjorn carrier
Safe n sound capsule (buy not hire)
Safe n sound Meridian car seat
tommy tippee nappy disposal unit
Angel care baby monitor with two sensor mats
and lots of little things. Still undecided if we will buy a cradle or not.

We are so excited. The place we are getting them from does 15 % off when you purchase 15 items or more. Which we will easily do as you need to buy all the mattresses and protectors and breast pumps and bottles and all that.

We still need to clear out the room, but will leave that till probably late feb as it is our only spare room (will be doing extensions some time next year adding at least 2 more bedrooms on). Paint the room, instal new fan etc. i want the room to be all ready before i have to head off to adelaide 2 weeks before baby is due. The earlier it is finished the better.

When are other people planning to have the room finished?

Keep this thread going, i love getting ideas off people.

I am having trouble deciding on decorating the room. Will do a mint green feature wall, but i want to make it really lovely and i dont like winne the poo and all that but want nice things to go on the wall. Anyone have any ideas?

Nothing... I lose bubs very easily so we wont buy any thing early any way...

another reason i have a bubba... im not going to go and buy any thing this time is sienna's time....... we will buy things maybe march next year... we will find out soon what we are having which will make it easier

holy moly! that's a good list Kayla!
I haven't gotten anything yet... i just haven't had the time and especially during xmas shopping, it was the last thing on my mind.

I did get some cute outfits for bubs at xmas time, so that is handy.... i think i'll have to wait for the sales to come and then do a big shop. I'll probably go minimal to start with, because we are going to be moving house around the time bubs is born!

I haven't bought anything yet still. Kayla you are super organised :smiliedance:

My mum bought a new baby blanket and some flanalette wraps. Other than that, i'll just be reusing Joshy's stuff. Clothes i'll probably just buy when he's born. Josh was so big he grew out of his stuff pretty quickly and also Cameron will be a winter baby so will need to get a few warmer small things. Otherwise i haven't really got anything to buy. The things i want to buy are for the birth not the baby! lol Like a birth pool etc, i need to get that organised. :)

Really - wow! Joshy is 2 and is in that size nappies, he weighs 12kgs. It's funny though bubs at that age can stay the same weight for ages though. A friend had a bub who was 10kgs at 6 months and he was still 10kg at 12 months. He just grew up instead of out! lol

Our tubba is 8 months next week and just under 9 kg... but size wise 10-15kg nappies.... only problem is she likes to hear the tab noise so she takes them off..

Other tip i found i used more body suits (am i thinking of the right word) rather then singlets... sienna has to have a body suit on when its hot as we have a nappy problem...

What we had from Michael & stuff we've been given:

Cot
Swing (battery operated, a godsend!)
Cot sheets
Clothes
Car seat
Single bed

What we have bought/layby'd:

Pram (layby)
Booster seat for Michael, bub will use his car seat (layby)
1 cute outfit (MIL actually bought it for bump for xmas)

What we need:

Cot mattress
More clothes
Necessities (nappies, wipes, powder, bath stuff etc)
Baby gates
Sling
Storage for boys room
Single bed mattress (if bub is anything like Michael he will be in a big bed by 1)

I'm sure there's more.

Ahh yes the phase of taking their nappies off! I tried to put a jumper on Josh today as it's pretty chilly and he wouldn't have a bar of it. He's been really bad with wearing jumpers such a struggle to get one on him. Even when he was much littler, he would scream blue murder! I hope Cameron isn't the same!

I wouldnt say experienced but here goes this is what i didnt use and let me see what i can add....

OK had a look... i spent $550 on a cot set yes i got it imported.. its only for show.. babies dont use cot quilts until they are older... so unless you want it for show dont but an expensive one...

I bought 10 avent bottles sienna wouldnt use any of them as our hospital use their own, i started BF but it didnt work.. so dont buy many unless you know bub will use it.. sienna does now..

Net and stand??? do you really need one.. my Aunty said today she used one.. for mosquito's i said "Inside" she said yes.. Up to you really.

Breast Pump - make sure you can BF before you buy one.. i have a pump that i didnt use after 2 weeks....

DH just looked at your list he also said check what people are giving you as a baby shower present... as in teddies, blankets, sheets etc...

Head rest for pram.. unless you want a particular one i have 3 i can send you one... i never used them...

Lots of Clothes - Sienna got heaps that she never wore as she hrew out of them too quickly maybe a few 0000-000 then buy when you are out of hospital... Make sure you pick a special "Going home Outfit" some thing you will keep for ever.

Wipes, powder, Cream... definately wipes but power and cream, i have still left overs from my baby shower....

Bibs - you can never have too many bibs....

Dummies - check what bub likes...

Pixie

Well we have to buy another car seat which I am excited about lol and of course if it's a boy a rude amount of boy clothes :D

Bel1978
04-01-2008, 05:20 PM
I have hundreds of boys outfits yes hundreds i have 3 nephews...

Kayla - Socks i was given newborn socks sienna never fit newborn socks.... infact she is 8 months next week and is in size 1-3 years..

You didnt add....

Nappy Stacker.....

Raincoat and sunshade for pram.. i use the raincoat often.

Arrangment for cream etc.. does your change table have a shelf or will you need some thing to put it in....

Rocker.. i have a swing and rocker.. sienna fell out of the fisher price swing at 6 weeks so we dont use it often but the rocker or bounce-a-net i think people call it... every night..

We have a travel bed.. not a portacot got it off ebay i love it... sienna slept on the lounge at any ones house in this...

Oh and bonds suits are always smaller so dont buy too many tiny ones... eg if bub is born 0000 then buy 000... and remember they grow quickly...

Can i add... Cloth nappies i use them for every thing.. mainly in the bathroom i place one on the change mat under her towel.. and i have one on the change mat in her room as they will be going into winter..

With the sterilizer.. just one from target i think $15 is fine people spend heaps on them.... Did you add a bottle washer to your list a must...

Depending on what you want to wash newborn clothes in wool wash is good.. i started with wool wash now i use nappysan just to add to our usual washing powder gets all stains out.

oooh edit for this one... i was given a star light that shines on the roof and i bought a fisher price aquarium for her cot she goes to bed each night listening to it....

Also a toy box i think is a must.....

Hmmm....I've bought....ummm....nothing...:o After losing 2 bubbas last year, we've been putting everything off. I only booked the hospital at 18 weeks and only gave my OB the admission form (that he requested at 6 weeks) on Monday

Two beautiful girlfriends have bought the bubba a gorgeous little jumpsuit each plus some lush bubba toiletries. Another lovely hubber  gave me some of her leftover newborn nappies about a year ago, my Mum bought bubba a pair of socks. But....that's it so far.

We have a change table, Steelcraft 3 wheeler pram (as new condition - we hardly used it with DS), portacot, playmat, toys, baby bath, breast pump etc from DS.

We are still to get....bubba's room built:p, a new cot and mattress, layback 4 wheel stroller, rocker, a nice sling.

I'd love some new cot linen too and new clothes for the baby but I think we'll wait. We don't 'need' them. I just want them!

Rachel87
04-01-2008, 07:20 PM
Bibs- we NEVER used as Michael HATED having them on. We bought heaps and never used half of them.

Something MIL did for us was use her flybuys points for our port-a-cot and battery operated swing. If you have flybuys points have a look at what you can redeem for them :)

Pixie
04-01-2008, 07:24 PM
I have loads of flybuys no use to me now lol might get the MIL something.

I also need/want to buy a change table I couldn't of done without my old one and a rocker/bouncer we gave it all away when we emigrated.

Rachel87
04-01-2008, 07:28 PM
Socks and hats/beanies - Michael didn't wear either. My Nan knitted heaps of booties for Michael and he never wore them.

Really just buy 1 or 2 of somethings until you know how big you bub is and also what he/she will wear. I would mostly buy in size 000 as well as most babies grow out of 0000 really quickly.

just another thing to add, ive been talking to mum about what i need and everything and she got me 24 cotton towelling nappies(the ones you fold yourself held together with nappy pins) just incase bub is allergic to disposable nappies(i was as a bub) and if you dont use them as nappies they are great to be used as vomit rags(if you get me) when burping bub or if bub has reflux it can come in handy to throw over your shoulder.:D mums have great tips.

also, i have now put together a list of what you may need when you are getting ready to be a first time mum! if anyone is interested let me know via private message. i have just made it as a check list for when i will be going shopping. its always good to be prepared!

Absolutely, your Mum is very clever  My MIL bought a pack of these before my DS was due. I made jokes about it, thinking that they were just going to take up space. Little did I know how handy they would be. DS was a refluxy baby so we used them constantly for cleaning, over the shoulder cloths and even under him when he was sleeping in his cot. He then became attached to them as he got older and would only sleep in his pram when he was cuddling one.

We've moved house twice since and I only have a couple left - best go out and buy some more - they were absolutely the most useful thing we had for DS.
