Hey, I am due to have my bubba in May and trying to get all my decisions made so i can start buying, just a quick question for all the bottle feeding mums....which bottle is better Nuk or avent?? What are your experiences with them.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice. :D
avent! they are awesome...
iv never used Nuk though, so cant say there is anything wrong with them. i just know the Avent are great!

Pigeon bottles are meant to be best for newborns. They are the closest to an actual nipple.

yup I agree.. and they are wide necked bottles - which is so much better .. whether trying to pour in EBM .. or a scoop of formula (less spillage with both) ..
having said that .. the little squat avent ones are very popular with my friends .. (very short fat bottles) - and they are supposed to be improved teat wise to be more like mum ..

do the pigeon bottles have sterilisers (sp?) to go with them??

The avent bottles are great because you express straight into them and they can be stored in the freezer or fridge. I think other pumps do have this function now too - but when I was expressing 6 yrs ago, the Avent was best for this function.
:)
(Sterilisers are fairly generic - and if you rinse the breastpump and bottles out in hot water immediately after use, then wash them in the dishwasher, that's sterilising them enough )

I use tommee tippee closure to nature bottles, they work great for my bubs.

I've always used Avent - no problems here
I like my avent stuff (except for the occassional leakage when I'm shaking up a bottle). I used an electric expressor and it was great to pump straight into a bottle. I've also got an electric avent steraliser which is really easy to use. I just started buying sippy cups and got the avent ones as the bottles, cups etc are all interchangeable.
Avent were great for us also, i tried the nuk one's once with DD2 and didn't like them at all. I've also heard that the Pigeon one's are really good also.
Use avent here - They are great... Have used them on DS since he was 2 weeks old and have never had a problem...:thumbsup:
I have tried, avent, nuk, tomee tippee, dr browns, tomme tippee health check and happy baby, if you are going to combine bf with ff then tommee tippee closer to nature do seem the best.
If you are going to exclusively bottle feed then I would say nuk over avent as they are a very good orthapedic shape and seem to fit bubs mouth very well. They also make glass nuk bottles as well which are good if you are concerned about plastic.
They do not leak at all and seem to minimise wind.
As another poster said avent are very good if you want to express as they have a very good pump system and storage system.

We used avent and they were great! But we had one problem, when we decided to take him off bottles he wouldn't change to any other brand of bottles or cups. Not sure if that is just him or what.

I am not going to express i will only be breast feeding for the first few feeds then going to FF. :baby:
Thank you everyone for your great help. :goodvibes:
:shakehands:
Avent are terrific... the teat is a soft silicon which conforms to the shape and very comfortable...
Pigeon peristaltic range are brilliant as well and great for newborns (as said) their teats are super soft...
All of these bottles are also excellent for the prevention of wind 'colic' and I found they certainly helped...
I didn't use anything else so i really cant comment...
I personally think the wide neck bottles are the best, i think the bigger teats are more comfortable for babies...
Good luck with your choices... There is just so much out there...
I use Avent. They work great for us.
I use pur bottles and have not had any trouble with them except a few leakages every now and then but other than that great.
I use Avent with an ISIS manual express pump. Wide necks are a good idea, but I find the express pump leaks around the neck of the bottle when being used and loosens too easily. Also, sometimes bottles leak when reheating them in water??
But that said, fork out the $$$ and still using it!

I bought one of each for my son and he preferred the nuk, (he liked the moulded shape as it gave him something to "grab" onto.
The only problem was they aren't interchangable. (ie you cant buy a cheap bottle and put a Nuk "firstchoice" teat in it)
On the upside the teats never seemed to wear out, I was forever replacing his sisters cross cut ones but never ever had to buy him a new teat.
Pur brand have a self sterilising bottle whivh is handy for travelling.

i started off with Tommee Tippee the ones with dimpled teats but had major problems when the slow flow was too slow cause they didnt make them anymore in medium flow:hissy: so my advice would be once you find a teat that works buy in the faster flow just in case lol..
we eventually switched to NUK which Chloe loved and still has for her morning bottle, and even though they are a bit dearer well worth it!!
good luck!!!
When my 2.5yr old daughter was born i tried avent and found that even the #1 flow teat was too fast for her so I tried the nuk and she loved it and worked really well.
Now with my 5 week old twins, I tried the Nuk and they both hated it, tried Avent and they hated it, so my community nurse suggested Pigeon wide neck (as its suppose to be the closest to a real nipple), they both love it and I have found bottlefeeding them is not a big issue for me anymore. Also they are easy to use coz they are wide necked, especially at those 2am feeds when your half asleep and trying to put formula in a bottle with twins screaming for their milk.
In regards to steralizing the bottles - I use my 'Target Brand' microwave sterilizer, but Pigeon also make steralizing bags for the microwave which are reusable up to 20 times.
My advice is not to buy anything in bulk now, just buy two bottles and see how you go, the first few weeks its all trial and error - dont waste your money now and stock up on bottles, wait 'till their born and see what works for your baby - then you can stock up on those bottles.

I used the avent bottles at first, DS wouldn't drink from them. So CHN recommended the Pigeon peristaltic bottles. Brought some and love them. Wouldn't buy any other brand now.

believe me i've bought and tried every brand of bottle there is coz my bubba just wouldnt take the bottle!!
after wasting hundreds of dollars i found the Dr Browns bottles to be the best. no bubbles or air goes into the bottles, so more formula can be taken by bub with little discomfort. they are dearer than other brands and more fidly but sure worth it.
second best brand i found was pigeon peristaltic bottles but i found the teat collasps sometimes when baby sucks hard.
