Hi Everyone...
My DD who is 6 mths is now on the stage 2 formula. I noticed the make up is different as in it is casein dominant. She had heaps of trouble with her bowels previously. I am worried that the casein dominant formula will clog up her bowels again..any thoughts?? Experience??

whey dominant formula is generally easier to digest, formulas like s26 gold are casein dominant, hence why alot of babies tend to get constipated on it.
I use karicare gold from birth which is whey dominant, but i will soon be going onto karicare gold follow-on formula, but unlike other forumlas this follow on one is also whey dominant, maybe you should have a try of it? Good luck

If bubs had bowel probs with step 1 (6 months under) then i'd be inclined to think that bub's would endure the same probs....
Casein does constipate, and i agree with Metalhead that Karicare Gold + is 'bowel friendly' if i can say that.....
Karicare Gold + (Step 2) has the extras that prevent constipation using natural added fibres in the prebiotics....Although more casein it's still whey dominant....
You don't actually have to change them on to Step 2 at all.... It's a personal choice.....

If you find bub's is still getting constipated try prunejuice... You can put 2 tablespoons into a made up bottle once a day for 1-2 days or give it to them as a drink but dilute with the same ratio of water.....

All the best.... x x

My DD is on Heinz Stage 1 - so essjay, what you are saying is that I don't have to change at all to stage 2?? I was thinking of changing her to Novalac the one for constipation? She is starting solids now - which would probably also upset her system. Any suggestions?
