Hi there,

I recently met a wonderful caring man through RSVP who is in the RAAF and is based in Amberly till he moves to Newcastle (NSW) in 5-6 weeks. We havn't physically met IRL yet (yes I know you probably all think im crazy) but we have such a great connection and until he got sent OS yesterday we would talk every night on the phone for 2-3hrs.

He rang me yesterday morning early to let me know he had been recalled through the night. As soon as he said that my mind kind of switched off for a few moments and didnt hear where he was being posted to. He did warn me last week that he was expecting to be sent OS soon for a 2-3 weeks stint. I was feeling a bit sad as I was going to be flying to Brisbane next week to see him as neither of us could wait till he moved to Newcastle. He told me that he is going to miss seeing my smile and hearing my voice and that I truly am the highlight of his day and that I will be in his thoughts every moment he is away and that I will be the first one he calls when he gets back.

Anyway how do you girls survive when your DH/DP are away. Im missing him and our late night talks already. Do your DH/DP get to keep in touch with you while they are OS and if so how do they keep in contact?

You manage, my DH hasn't been over seas but has been out field quite abit on 6-8 week trips. Sometimes depending on where he goes he won't have any reception so i won't get to speak to him hardly at all.

I'm pretty sure that when they go overseas they are able to call still and they have access to the interent (email). It's hard when they have to go away but you deal with it, you don't really have any other choice.

I hope the trip goes quick for you at least you have christmas comming to help take your mind of it abit.

Thanks Carly,

Once he moves to Newcastle he wont be deployed anymore. But he has warned me that he has already been listed for 6mths in afghanistan and may still have to go but with his new role he is hoping if it happens that he wont be called on. He has been in the RAAF for 17 years and is currently studying is Bachelor of Science in PHD so wants to get out in the next 2-3 years.

Hi Girls,

Well he didnt end up going. They were put in lock down for nearly 48hrs and are now on 24hr stand by but he said the longer they are hear the less likely it is they will go. He got leave approved to move down to Newcastle a week earlier which is fantastice and I am flying up to brisbane to spend some time with him this weekend.

You girls are amazing to live a life like that.

Have fun in Brisbane...Valentine

My hubby is in the RAAF has been for 2.5 year's and 9.5 years in the Army before that.. we are 3 weeks away from seeing each other :smiliedance:..he has been gone for 5 months now..he left the day I found out I was pregnant with bub #2 and we have a just turned 2 year old..he missed our wedding anniversery, DD 2nd Birthday and my ultra sound for bubba at 18 weeks, sever morning sickness and the beginning of the terrible 2's...LOL..what a 5 months it has been ...

As everyone else said you just suck it all up and get on with everyday life, bills still need paying, washing still needs doing and life goes on per normal..you just give and get lots of extra kisses and cuddle when they get home cause in our case absence does make the heart grow fonder not to forget the sense of pride you feel for the job they do :bee:...

Bring on 15th December i cant wait to have him home !!!
