Hi all,

I'm just a bit confused about my due date. I'd like to ask you all for your opinions.....

When I first found out I was pregnant, my due date was calculated by fertility friend as 27th Feb (confirmed by GP)...

When I first saw my midwife, they gave me a due date of 1st March, which they caculated from their due date calendar "wheel".

I went to see the midwife again on Tuesday just gone and she reviewed my 20 week scan report, which shows my due date as 22nd Feb, but the middie still says 1st March, cause thats what the wheel says.

After speaking to a couple of people, they feel that the 22nd Feb is more accurate, as the scan would be more accurate than a generic due date calendar. I tend to agree with this, however I'm still a bit confused....

If I'm due the 22nd Feb, I'm 27 weeks today. if I'm due the 27th Feb, I'm 26 + 2.

Help! I'm not too stressed about it, I'm just one of those people who wants to know...

Thanks,

Carrie

I would just run with the date that is the furtherest away, which is 1st March.

Coupla reasons: it will avoid an unnecessary induction or pressure to induce when you are nearing full term

It will stop people from ringing you and asking if you are in labour yet

Babies almost never come on their due date anyway, its just a rough estimate, I repeat, it is a ROUGH ESTIMATE, nobody can predict it, not a midwife, not an obstetrician, not a paper wheel and not even the mother. Only the baby knows because the baby starts the labour.

So, I would stick to 1st March.

I know it seems really important, I remember it being very important, but honestly, as long as you have an estimate of which fortnight you will give birth, then that's all you need to prepare for it.

Good luck!

as far as i knwo its not an accurate date, its just a "round about then". if you really want it fixed then speak to yoru midwife or doc.

my due date according to the wheel and all calculators is the 12th of feb.
but the u/s said 24th of feb.

i am going by the 24th, mainly for the reason that i prefer u/s dates but also for the reason that shed said, it is the further away one so it gives more time. i am having a c/s so this way i can keep my bub in for as long as i can.
oh but they did try to change mine to the 1st of march, that was when i said no way because that is WAY too far out from the 12th and after a few things that went wrong with DD the doc, midwife and i decided that we can take the chance to leave bub in there that long.

Yeah they are big on their due date wheel thingy  I told mine I couldnt remember the date of my last period, and thats why I'd had the dating scan done and told her my due date from the dating scan. She pushed me to name a date though cause she had to use her wheel. so I just guessed and told her it was only a very rough guess. She was very happy though to use her wheel and note down a date accordingly. It's later than the US one but as others have said I'm happy for her to write that one down as it will give me a few extra days before they start pressuring me for induction and its just a rough idea anyway.

i would go with the furtherest date away...

i knew exactly when i O'd, and worked out that my EDD was 26.4.08 - when i went to my hosp appointment my scan date and Ovulation both led to the 24th on the wheel, so i went by that... (id worked it out wrong!) but generally i would go by the furtherest away... to avoid unnessesary intervention..

Usually you would go by your period dates if you are sure of LMP. However, if you have an early scan (not the 20 week scan) and it was different from your period dates by more than 10 days, that would probably be your new date. Therefore, the 20 week scan is not a good one for dating. A dating scan is usually performed in very early pregnancy. Hope that makes sense. I would say the due date by of the 1st March is probably accurate.

The reason that 20 week scans are not good as dating scans is becuase by 20 weeks, babies grow at different rates.

A dating scan is usually done very early in the pregnancy if you dont know the date of your LMP .... and this is becuase early on, all bubs grow at the same rate (ie cells divide at x rate per day for the first few weeks) Therefore a dating scan at 6 weeks is more accurate than 1 at 13 weeks, which is more accurate than estimating a date from the 20 week scan......

If you know when your last period was, or when you ovulated, you can calculate your date better than anyone...... (40 weeks from 2 weeks prior to ovulation)

Good luck.

I was due with DD by my LMP on the 12/1/2006 and by the Scan at 20 weeks it said the 18/1/2006, I had her on the 8/1/2006 and she was 8lb and there was no way she was going any further she was well an truly baked. I say go by ur LMP ur body knows what its doing. I fell on the Pill and i still knew and was closer then they were.

I say go with the date furthest away too. I hate that due date wheel - it doesn't take into account a cycle longer or shorter than the good ol' 28 days! The wheel puts me at 25th Feb, ovulation puts me at 28th Feb and two early ultrasounds put me at 27th and 29th Feb. So I figure the most accurate date for me is the 28th and that's what I'm sticking to. :D

Exactly what shed said.

I am in the same situation (except I don't see it as a situation).

My EDD (emphasis on the 'estimated' part) is 18th Feb. Both my periods and an early scan confirmed this within one day of each other. I grow big babies. At my 20 week scan the technician 'moved' my due date to 5th Feb. Thats a HUGE difference. Were I birthing in a hospital, there would be a mandatory induction on 19th of Feb at the latest, when I would really only be 1 day 'overdue'.

Your periods (the wheel) and early scans are much more accurate than 20 week scans... stick with the original date.

It does seem like a big difference, but its not. With my first, I went a week 'overdue', and it seemed like an eternity. In hindsight, it was nothing.

I would keep in mind that most first babies are 7 - 10 days late and tell myself that bub would be here by about the first week in March :)

My EDD from my LMP is 16 Feb, the wheel says 17 Feb, then my first scan said 12 Feb & then my 20 week scan said 8 Feb :hair:

My last son was 10lbs so I would like to go with the 8 Feb but have been told to go with the 16 Feb - i just don't want another huge bub. Anyway I've resided to the fact that he'll come out when he is ready - but hopefully not too big!

Yeah, I have decided to go by the 27the Feb. It's not that far away from the 1st of March.

Thank you all for your thoughts... :)
