Hi
My dd is now 15weeks old and is still not even trying to roll over. She hates tummy time and just lays there with her head on the floor screaming. On the rare occasion that she is happy for a few seconds she lifts her head up and looks around, then realises she is on her tummy and screams. When she is sitting on our lap she has really good control of her neck muscles, so I'm not too worried about that side of things.

I'm just wondering how old other bubs were when they rolled for the first time and also if anyone has any ideas on how I can encourage her to roll.

Thanks :)

I think Brianna rolled pretty early so Im not sure when the norm (if that is such a thing!) is.
Ive had friends bubbas that didnt roll until they were 4-5 months old, they just persisted with tummy time.

Sorry Im not much help to you! :o

My bubs is four months and has not rolled yet...although she is trying hard so I'm guessing any day now! But my nephew hated to be on his tummy, never lifted his head while on his tum, and never rolled or crawled. He just went straight from sitting to standing to walking...he's now 3, healthy and very active.:)

Hi there,
my son Patrick is 18 weeks tomorrow and has only just started rolling from his back to his side three days ago. He will not go any further than his side and just lays there for a few seconds then flops back to his back. He also hates tummy time but I have had improvement by rolling up a towel and putting that under his chest when he does it and he seems to like that much more. Now when I do it without the towel he seems a bit happier about it. I think they all do the rolling thing at different times so don't worry about it too much.

My little man is 8 months old and he almost never rolls, and has only ever rolled once on the floor (at about 4-5 months and he scared the daylights out of himself).

I actually used to say that he couldn't up until a week or so ago and then it hit me that for some time he's been rolling himself on my lap when he's finished a feed and wants to get down, its pretty definate, strong and persisten so he definately can. He HATES tummy time, even more than he hates lying on his back. He's been sitting unassisted since just 5 months and was standing holding onto things later that same month. Cruised furniture long before he could crawl (has only started commando crawling in the last couple of days). I don't think its necessarily an issue of physical capability but desire. While I persisted with time on the floor it was always hard work and quite a few tears. Wheras now he's happy to when he wants to.

I guess he's a clear example of how differently babies develop. He put his focus into being upright and his fine motor skills. He could pick up and hold things months before any others we know and with much greater dexterity, yet they all talked first and some have been mobile for the last month or two. Don't fret and don't let others put you down with the 'oh, he's not doing that yet' either, there are undoubtably things he can do now even when he shouldn't.

I actually noticed this afternoon that DD tries to get onto her side from her back, she gets half way there then stops for a few seconds then lays on her back again. Maybe she will roll from her back to her tummy before she rolls from her tummy to her back.
I have tried the towel under her chest when she's on her tummy, she wriggles off it and it ends up under her head within a matter of seconds
I know she'll get there eventually....

My girl is 7 months on the 11th of this month, and can roll, but only on her right side, and only when SHE wants to, which is not much. She has NEVER done it the other way, and is horrible at holding her head up while on the floor. Maybe she will be a sitter to walker too? :fingerscrossed: Though she's not even sitting up on her own yet, doesn't even want so.....i know i'm being impatient, but at least i now know of kids who didn't even do it much, and got on alright anyhow! Thanks!

Neither of my girls had much tummy time on the floor but more laying accross our laps. Neither of them were happy to be on their tummy until they could roll over themselves which was about 4 months for DD1 and 5 months for DD2. It took a week or so but once they realised that they kept tipping themselves onto their belly they just accepted that was the trade off for being able to roll over I guess!!
