I had an appointment with a lactaton consultant she was here all of about 10 minutes and it cost me $30. That is crazy!
The government should be providing this service free, that could possibly raise the tragically low breastfeeding rates!:banghead:
How come you had to pay? I thought at local hospitals (mine did) you could see them for free.
can you claim it back?

Costs me 150 dollars for a 2 hour visit.
Did she help you with what you were asking? Did she offer for you to call her whenever you want if you have questions?
My LC is great, so I don't mind paying for her to come see me. She told me I could call her whenever I wanted with any questions and see her for free at her clinic in the pharmacy (she's also a CHN).
I love her :)

I think if you have private health cover you can claim part of it back.

Try ringing your local public hospital next time - they usually have LCs attached to their maternity units, and best of all - they're free :)

I had mine thru my hospital, and it was free.
I rang one and left a message for her to call me, and she never did .

Gosh, that is really disappointing to hear - the cost and the fact that so many didn't get back to you. I imaginge they would be rather busy, but I would also imagine that the women who need to see them pretty well need to see tehm straight away - it's not really something that can wait. Did she help with what you needed? Did you feel satisfied when she left?
I have never needed to use one, but I had presumed it would be a free service for a public patient???

Well what she told me I pretty much could have been told the same thing from one of the ladies on here, so whilst I am grateful I am not entirely satisfied... The only real advice was bub have no more dummy which I already knew I was just being weak and giving in to it. But now NO DUMMY ELLE.:nono:

How come you have to give up the dummy Elle?

Because he was going to sleep without feeding and the reason was because he is used to the dummy so he wasnt feeding because he would rather suck the dummy therefore was happy to go to sleep hungry... Which then has affected my supply.

That's the same thing that happened with Nick. He had no dummy for a week or so, then i was going crazy on my own one day when DH had been working quite a bit - so i walked in the stinking heat to the shops & bought a new one. :banghead: The break from it was really good though - he learnt to comfort suck so much better * feed to sleep, my supply increased heaps. Now he only has it to go to sleep, but most the time he spits it out anyway, and i try to avoid giving it to him, unless he ahs already been feeding for an hour and still wants to suck more - I am exhausted by then!!
Back to the original vent though - 10minutes & $30 :eek: ouch! There is a local group here once a week provided by the local CHN clinic with 1 CHN & 1 lac consultant there each week - free, i am VERY glad of that.
