My DH and i have decided we would really like to try for #3. We have 2 beautiful sons and we would love to have a daughter too.
I know i can't pick and choose and we would be thrilled either way but i was just interested to hear if anyone had suggestions on how to increase the odds of conceiving a GIRL??:babydust2::wizard:
Thanks :)
Saw this online. 75% effective. (not bad)
Shettles method
What it is
Timed intercourse on specific days of your cycle.
Effectiveness
Shettles proponents claim the technique is 75 per cent effective, but other experts dispute this. Keep in mind that you always have about a 50 per cent chance of conceiving the sex you want.
How it's done
The theory is that sperm bearing Y chromosomes (for boys) move faster but don't live as long as sperm that carry X chromosomes (for girls). So if you want a boy, the Shettles method argues, you should have sex as close as possible to ovulation. If you want a girl, you should have sex two to four days before you ovulate.
Pros
• Requires no drugs or invasive medical procedures.
• Free or low cost.
• Relatively safe.
Cons
• You must take your basal body temperature every day to figure out when you're ovulating, or use an ovulation prediction kit.
• There's no guarantee of success.
Availability
Anyone can try it.

Also, you can make your cervical mucas more acidic around the time of ovulation.
Try taking 1000 mcg of Folate a day ( it's on the girl diet )
Calcium and Magnesium tablets daily ( it's on the girl diet )
look up alkaline and acidic diets and follow the acidic one, don't go over board though with the girl diet as it can make your mucas hostile!
It definatley is harder to make girls. MALES are responsbile for girl - boy etc, science begs to differ now though with her findings about cervical mucas etc.
Good luck and happy Bed dancing Valentine

Thanks for the advice ladies, i have been reading up and trying to take it all in.
The a-gender looks good, i will read into that some more.
I have heard of the Shettles method before, we will definately add that to the mix.
I guess it really is the luck of the draw in the end hey, and like i said i will would be thrilled either way.:goodvibes:
Thanks
Hi Kristy,
We tried for a girl with our second and it worked. We used the Shettles method. The main thing to remember is to keep a really good track of your mucous so you know where you are in your cycle. You also need to track it for a couple of months before starting to try and even use condoms during that time so it doesn't interfere with the look/feel of your mucous.
It is really easy to do and it is cheap (you only need a thermometer). But just remember that no method is perfect so you need to be ok with it if you do get a boy.
All the best and think lots of pink thoughts.

:babydust2:Hi Kristy
I'm in the same position...... 2 boys and longing for a princess. i've been monitoring my cycles and using ovulating kits ($50 each) and trying the shettles method, taking folate & calcium & Magneisum everyday..... only having sex in missionary style etc this girl stuff seems to be such hard work and such a doubtful way to get there.
yet my friends who have have girls say its easy :) i bought some gender swaying e-books on ebay because it was all i could find.
We are going to give it 4 months (this lil girl to be is expensive work) if we don't concieve by then, then we'll go back to normal and be very excited that we are adding to our family whatever sex our baby will be.
Fingers crossed for a :bfp: next week.
Sending you lots of Pink Fairy Dust x

hehe my sis had 2 boys.. they decided after 7years to try again.. she really wanted a girl.. anyway they had twin boys!
pretty much my situation, after two boys we wanted a little girl and did everything possible including the supplements to try for a girl and ended up with twin boys lol.
I think now it's just pot luck but it doesn't hurt to try, i have a great site that has lots of info on ttc the gender of your choice. Just pm me if you would like the addy as i don't think i'm allowed to post it here.

Hi ladies
DH & I are TTC our DD? Hopefully. Even if we get a boy I will know that I did all the swaying possible to try and we will love him. There are a few websites that are devoted to this subject. Please DO NOT pay any companies money as they will just tell what you can find out for free by doing some research.
Try typing gender determination or gender selection and see how you go.
The girl diet is extremely difficult to stick to and stay healthy. DH & I are on a moderate diet - low sodium low potassium.
You can also take supplements to lower your ph - For a girl ideal woman's ph is 4.5 DH between 7 -7.5. You can purchase ph test strips online to find out what you are. Test CM and ejaculate. (This can be really funny)
Also charting is important as there are several methods you can use shettles which recommends cut off or you can do O+12 ( where charting and OPK's are really important. You need to pinpoint exact time of Ovulation and BD in the next 12hours when CM changes from EWCM to creamy).
Sorry for taking up so much room but this is my current obsession - after two boys we are trying to get our girl.
Good luck to you.
Kritti
PS. I am glad someone bought this subject up on this site.
The only help I can give is tell you how we got our boy so you can do the opposite, we BD on the dat I was ovulating and got a boy that way :baby:, so that would be the shettles method I guess.
I should add though that DH comes from a family famous for having boys, he has brothers, FIL is one of four boys, MIL has four brothers etc. In fact they are so famous for it that when we told our freinds I was preggers they said "oh it'l be another *****y boy then" (surname has been disguised). The family boys school in fact has had a *****y boy there for 100 years. Ha so not to much pressure on us then!
Has anyone else noticed certain familys seem to have a tendancy for one s3x or the other?
Hope you all get yoou princess :baby:

I am in the same boat, we have 2 boys, we have been trying for a girl for 2 years now, have had every test done under the sun, doctor has just put me on clomid to see if that helps but i am at the stage where a girl would be nice but would just be happy with another baby no matter what sex it is.
DP's family are dominated with boys as well, his mum had 4 boys and a girl (the girl was first), his sister also has 3 boys and a girl and i of course have 2 boys.

:smiliedance:YAH!!!!:bfp: :smiliedance:
We followed the Shettles method, took the supplements and followed the "girl diet"...
We'll see if this was sucessful in August 08!!
I'm happy as this will be our last baby and i know we've done as much as we can to sway towards a girl... and if we have a boy its just meant to be.... the boys want a little brother anyway

i know its long but i found this when going thru another thread on this subject.....
Sperm for Girls and Boys
Yes. The X sperm (which are the sperm that make females) live longer than the Y sperm (which are the sperm that make males). However, the Y sperm swim faster, so the chances are equally good that you will get a girl or a boy. If the Y sperm swim fast enough before they die to fertilize the egg, then you'll have a boy. If the Y sperm don't reach the egg before they die, chances are an X sperm will get there shortly, and then you'll have a girl.
Here is more input and advice:
X sperm are stronger than Y sperm but both will perish very quickly if allowed to dry out.
The female carrying sperm are the slower sperm because of the genetic material it carries. The female sperm contain an X chromosome, while the male carrying sperm contain a Y chromosome. The Y chromosome is very small and contains very little genetic material in comparison to the X chromosome, so the male carrying sperm are able to swim faster and reach the egg sooner than the X carrying sperm.
A baby's gender is determined by the chromosomes in the sperm, not the egg. XX makes female, XY makes male, all eggs contain an X chromosome, so sperm donates other X or Y chromosome. Female sperm live up to 5 days, male sperm up to 3 days. (Egg lives 12 to 24, maybe even 36 hours after ovulation.) Female sperm live longer but swim slower than male sperm. (Vaginal environment supposedly contributes to sperm longevity, alkaline/acidic - male sperm prefer baking soda douche prior to sex, female prefer acidic (vinegar) (supposedly) - but most importantly of all, male swim quicker, so for male baby, have sex within 6 hours before ovulation, to beat female sperm to egg. Vice versa, for female baby, have sex 4-5 days before ovulation, for better chances of having a girl baby. Test for ovulation with home ovulation testing kit, get familiar with when you ovulate, and plan accordingly for future ovulations and future timing of intercourse.
Men produce two types of sperm, those containing the X chromosome, female sperm, and those containing the Y chromosome, male sperm. Sperm are being produced continuously, they take about a month from the beginning until they are mature. As the Y chromosome is smaller than the X chromosome the male sperm is lighter and faster than the female sperm and therefore gets a head start towards the egg. Female sperm being heavier have more staying power and can keep going for longer.
I have heard that if you don't Orgasm the girl sperm get through more as there is a higher acidic level in your CM. If you do your CM becomes alkaline. Not sure how true is might be a myth?
The other thing I've heard is to look up acid foods and try them to convert your body from alkaline to slightly acidic. Again not sure if true or not.
I have heard that douching can be dangerous as it can cause infection this is something I've actually heard from my Doctor too. If you want to become acidic change your diet she suggested to me.
