Ok Im not sure if Im right or not.. but Im thinking maybe dd doesnt need one of her daytime sleeps anymore?
She 4.5 months old, and sleeps from 8pm-7am (somtimes wakes up around 6amish but usualy resettles for another hour when i go put her dummy back in). So thats 11 hours.

She has a morning nap at 8.30, anywhere from 45 mins to 1.5 hours but usualy no more. Settles just fine for this one.

Then she had a mid arvo nap at around 12.30/1, for about an hour and usually no more. Settles fine for this one too but can grizzle a tiny bit but not much and only some days.

Then comes the evening nap.. at around 3.30, and its now 5.30 and ive only just managed to settle her.. Im not sure if it was just the heat last few days thats been doing this, but she works herself up into such a state and just wont / doesnt want to sleep, I know its not teething or reflux or colic or anything like that cause shes all smiles as soon as i take her out of her bedroom.

So Im thinking maybe, I should keep doing her morning nap, but skip the mid arvo one so she only has one morning nap and one late arvo/evening nap? Or would I just end up with an overtired cranky baby if I did this:hissy:

It would definetly be handy if she didnt need the lunchtime nap anymore, as i could go out and do stuff in the middle of the day without hoping she will have a nap in the pram or whatever or worry about her being overtired from skipping it.

When do bubs generally start dropping naps? She has never had big daytime sleeps, never ever more than about 1.5 hours. And I never try to make her sleep more than that (theres no way she would anyway):banghead:

give it a go for a few days and see how you go.

every baby is different so i dont think there really is an age for dropping sleeps.

By 12mths Elise was only having 1 day sleep even though a lot of people i know their bubs were still on 2-3 naps a day.

I think you should cut the evening nap though rather than midday, Just start your nightime routine a bit earlier so shes not too overtired

Go with your gut :)

DS is about the same age and he sleeps from about 7 til 7 at night.

He has a morning sleep (9-11) and we have moved his afternoon sleep to 1ish.

If he sleeps well on both these sleeps he just does not have the afternoon nap and starts bed routine at 5:30 and in bed by 7.

I find if he doesn't sleep well on one of the first 2 naps he just compensates and has a late afternoon nap.

I hope that makes a little sense and helps at all

lol thanks, it sort of does make sense.. hmm if i could only get her to sleep more than 1 hour in the morning, say 2 hours, i could get her to not need a nap til around 3.. which is where i have troubles getting her to nap anyway cause i beleive she doesnt need that mid afternoon one..:detective: oh what to doo, will be soo much easier when they only need one nap eh lol:baby:

Maybe your little one seems to think that only 2 sleeps are enough for them? DD1 who is nearly 7 months old used to sleep about 2-3 naps a day but then they would vary due to teething. She slowly went from about 3 sleeps a day down to 2. Sometimes she would tire out a lot by around 5 but I wouldnt let her go to sleep any more than as then she would have more trouble settling at night time. We dont have a perfect night time sleep routine as shes thrown it out the window most nights! Daytimes are pretty good though. You seem to be doing very well with the 2 naps so perhaps thats all bubba needs? Ive changed my routine so that she now gets a bath in that time that u normally put bubs to sleep that third time. Went ok yesterday so Im trying the same thing again today as for some babies it wakes them up and for others it settles them even more.
Hope it works out for u.
Its all trial and error I guess

Hi,
I have a 4 month old too and some days he has 2 sleeps but other days he has 3. It all depends how long he sleeps for. If he is doing the silly 40 minute sleeps I try and get him to have 3 (but will not try and get him to have one after 5pm -just have a bit of a cranky baby on my hands but then get him to bed for the night by 6:30-7). Some days he will sleep for 1.5 hours or more (yesterday he slept from 1:45pm-5pm -amazing!!) and on those days he will just have the 2 sleeps. I generally just put him back to bed after being awake for 2 hours as that is about his limit before he is tired and grumpy again. Every day is different here at this point and there is no telling when he will have a big sleep or a little sleep which I have accepted and will just go with the flow.
