View Full Version : motherless mums
I was wondering today if there are any other mums like me who no longer have their mums around. My mum passed away when I was around 2 yrs of age and I dont have a step mum. My grandparents looked after me until they passed away (I was 11) so didnt really have any mother figures after that. Im just wondering if there are other mums like me around my age and just want to know how u coped. I didnt really think much of mums until I became pregnant and I was about to become one. In fact I thought I had no mothering instincts whatsoever but they definatly kicked in after my little one was born. Im a single mum so there is no inlaws either but I have friends who are mums (and grandmas) that help and give me advice and that is important. So how did u handle becoming a mum? Can I just add when u become a mum u see the world so differently
Hi my mum passed away when I was 11. I missed her many times over the years, but have become used to her not being there - no matter how much I wish she was.
I think I coped well because I had a MIL who was very supportive , but never tried to replace my mum.
I also have become a master at shutting out emotions/ thoughts that make me sad, as I have been told many times that crying doesn't fix anything. So I just try to get on with the job.
Like you - I didn't think that I was that maternal until my baby arrived and all I can think about is giving her what I missed out on.
