Hi
My DS is 14 weeks old and has not done a poo for 3 days now (last poo was monday night). He has been farting a bit though. DS has always done a poo every 3 hours at least.
He is breastfed but as I am trying to wean him, for the last 2 weeks he has been having 50-100ml of formula (NAN HA Gold) every 2-3 days.
Could this be why he hasnt pooed yet? How long before I should start to worry? If he is blocked up, what should I give him?
Thanks
Natalie
hey :) ((hugs))
I freaked when my DS went three days without a poo... but he did one THAT night... so I got stressed for nothing!!!
- you can give him cooled boiled water.. sometimes that helps with bowels...
- you COULD give him really diluted prune juice (sunraysia makes a really small bottle - costs $1 something) - you only need 10-20 mls though!! but it is not recommended unless DEFINATELY needed...
since then he has been regular- and every two- three days he goes (massively!!! sorry... TMI :D) ...
if he seems consitipated - what about a warm bath?? otherwise... lots of cuddles... and bfeeding to flush everything through..
formula DOES block them up abit sometimes- but Jack copes ok with one bottle of formula a day ...
hope that helps!!!!!

I have a friend whose little one is formula fed and only poohs about once a week. She has spoken to the MACH nurses, her GP and done a bit of reading about it and apparently not only is it well within the normal range, its perfectly OK. Given its the thing thats changed more than likely is the formula.
FYI What we were told moving onto solids was that they can get a bit backed up until their bodies adjust and that unless it causes them great distress to pooh and comes out in little pellets (sorry if TMI) not to be concerned.
Hello,
I totally understand! My little one is the same. He normally poos every day but every now and then he doesn't poo for a few days (and he tries!)!
We have tried a little bit (1 tsp) of brown sugar in his bottle and MAN DID IT WORK! So we use this when we are worried about him and he gets a bit clogged up! But remember this brown sugar can only be used once per day.
Good luck! :p

Yep, when we weaned Elliot three weeks ago he went from going 6 poo's a day to nothing in 3 days and then finally it came - and boy did we know about it! It went everywhere! Luckily it was the weekend and DH was home otherwise I think it could have been a hose job!!!! he he he:shame:
Now he is settled on the formula, he goes every afternoon around 3-4pm without fail.
Check the iron content of the formula, as that is what is said to constipate them. I have read that you should be concerned about the actual texture of the poo rather than the frequency - on the bottle it should be like pnut butter consistency. If it comes out hard then he is constipated.
i am sure it is just his body adjusting:fingerscrossed:
Let us know how the stinky's go!!!!:smiliedance:

Hi
Well my DS finally did a poo. It was huge and went all up his back. But it wasnt hard at all, it was kind of like Mr Whippy but a bit softer (sorry if TMI) so nothing to worry about.
Thanks everyone for your replies
