Calling all grandparent carers in the Woden and Tuggeranong area. I am starting a playgroup especially for nanny's and grandpa's who provide full time care for their grandchild/ren under the age of 5.

Depending on the number of carers we get involved this would typically involve meeting one morning per week for a couple of hours, rotating the meeting place between the carers homes. Each bring a plate of goodies to share.

This is an excellent opportunity for your grandchildren to interact with other children and to learn important social skills they may otherwise miss out on, growing up in an adult only environment.

Share experiences with other grandparents in the same situation, swap ideas and discuss problems. Get to know people in your area who share the same ideals and family ties.

If you are interested in joining this group please email with your details.

My mum and mother-in-law look after my kids - I'm sure they'd love to come. However - just some feedback I think it would be possibly better in a neutral venue rather than people's homes as unless people have a large house, it would get a bit cramped with more than 2 or 3 familes...

I've gone to a few playgroups but the ones I favour have more strcutre and adult help/involvemnet (rather than letting the kids 'run wild' iykwim

Hi greengables,

I agree structured is better. I have contacted ACT Playgroups and they have offered to sponsor the group if enough grandparents are interested. This would mean funding for a venue and assistance in organising activities. This would be perfect, however I am still trying to generate some interest. I have about 3 or 4 grandparents interested at the moment. If we can drum up a few more then ACT Playgroups will help us out.
