Ok so today was the offical first day of Toilet Training for DS1! We have for the last few months getting acquainted with the potty/toilet and now that we have our trainers and have moved into our new house we thought we would bite the bullet
When he woke up this morning we took (or should I say I took him) to the potty and said that the time had come and this was where he was to do his pees from now on and that he was to come and tell us when he needed to go. No more nappies as he was growing into a big boy!
12hours later and we still have not had ONE single pee on the potty!!! We have been asking him every 15mins if he needs to go - each time met with a no mum and every half hour we have been actually taking him to the potty where we will proceed to sit for 5-10mins and leave with no success. Not 2 mins later I have a 2.5yr old with wet pants. :hair:
I know it is only day 1 and ROME wasn't built in a day but I thought we would get atleast 1 wee in there today *sigh*
Could he just not be ready yet? Or am I expecting too much of him?
I have stickers to reward him just need for him to wee!! I should mention that he has wee'd a few times on the potty before so it isn't completely foreign...

i think that you may be expecting too much......
This is all new for him...
He needs to be supported and the rules told to him again when accidents happen and just keep supporting him,,,,, Im thinking maybe gets something a bit funner for the reward like freddos or something....he might be tempted then..
Good Luck!
Hmm... could you change tactics???
We didn't 'toilet train' the boys...
we just let them run around pantless every afternoon after their nap. Then whenever they started to wee we'd say "outside.. wee outside!" and take them outside.
Once they were taking themselves outside, choosing where they wanted to wee, weeing on command (eg> whoever does a wee gets a lollie... and they both run outside and do a wee) and deciding to wee themselves (eg> Ollie: Wee on Jordan's car? followed by a wee)
That's when we introduced the toilet. We knew they could identify when they needed to go. KNew they had the control to hold it till they got there. Knew they could produce a wee if we asked them too... so it was just a matter of changing location.
We bought special 'big boy' undies and 'gave' all the nappies to 'Baby Gabriel'
They were toilet trained in 3 days. We very rarely have accidents now.
Its not everyones cup of tea, but I got a little jar, and filled it with those gluclose jelly beans from the chemist.
I started off with stickers and a potty, and then moved to the jelly beans and a step up to the big toilet. We were alot more suscessful.
I still prompt her to go sometimes, but she tells me she needs to go alot. Theres rarely wee accidents. We are however yet to get a poo on the toilet...Unfortunately :( For those, we're using freddo's ie. When you do a poo on the toilet, you can have a chocolate frog.
Oh and we only used the jelly beans for about 2 weeks, then we took them away. She still goes no problem. I think dh still sneaks them to her when he takes her to the loo lol.

:hugs: We tried the potty out today too....didnt happen either.
I know you hun, dont be hard on yourself or the boy so soon, i do think you expected too much for day 1 (this is me talking so listen...perfectionism isnt the key so put it aside also DONT STRESS ;) )
Try again tomorrow, and then the next day and the next.....he will 'get it' in time. I dont think freddos or lollies to reward though (knowing him he'd be climbing the walls in 2 min of eating them )
You know where i am if you need a chat. Again :hugs:

Ronan has been nappy-free now for 3 months- but with many, many accidents and I think it was 3 or 4 days before he got a wee in the potty. Even just now he is starting to use the toilet and can stay dry for short outings (with a toilet stop just in case). He will still often outright refuse to try and will shout at me if he feels hassled to use the toilet. So I really have to back off at times.
Like Gretel, I just had Ronan outside with just jocks or nothing for hours every day.
Trainers have not worked for us- they seem to be just another nappy to some toddlers... Ronan has to wear jocks, and has to feel wet to 'get it'. He likes to wee on the grass too!
The turning point for us though was when we got stacks of different stickers and let him put them all over the outside of his potty :D When they washed/wore off, we replaced them with new ones and the potty is always looking fun and different to him!
Put some diluted budget disinfectant in an old spray-bottle next to a stack of old washers/terry flats/tea towels for fast and cheap cleaning of puddles :) Have meals on a picnic blanket outside and really spend most of the day out there so he can see exactly what happens
Good luck!!! And how awesome it is that you are in your new house!! :smiliedance: :yelclap:

You really do know me too well! :hugs: (and good luck to you too!!!)

Thanks Em! At long last the move is over with and we can get back to some kind of normal!
Thanks for the suggestions girls! But yeah we were really not wanting to go down the "food" treats/rewards.
As for his trainers - they are homemade and while they do stop "some" of the puddles he can still feel the total wetness in them (which i might add doesn't seem to bother him ewww).
It has been raining here all week but am going to try and spend the day outside (so he can be nudie!) tomorrow (weather permitting of course) and see if that helps.
Thanks, I do see how i probably did expect a little too much from him... I don't want to push him but he is getting to big for any nappy!!!!
