Is it normal for a four month old to be getting upset while passing bottom end wind?

DD still wakes up at night in tears crying her heart out while passing wind. Sometimes during the day too.

I do find the Brauers (sorry can't spell it) Stomach Calm helps though, thank goodness.

Just wondering if this could be an intolerance or something? Her bowel movements seem o'kay...at least have been, still waiting to see how they go on this new formula. Seem normal so far (2-3 days).

DD has tried a few different formula's including Lactose Free which still didn't take away her bottom end wind pains.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Oh thanks for your reply bossoflatch, you are such a nice person with all of your info and advice here.

Your poor little DD, how awful for you guys. Sorry to hear she has such pains.

Not much change here at all, DD is still upset with her fluffing and it's more so today than ever...yes I kwym about crying and building up more wind/gas, exactly.

Some days her poops are solid and she's fine passing them, irritable before hand though of course...then the next day they are frothyish and there's a couple....she has a little rash on her chest (but that could be from her drooling). I am guessing this is all just normal? Or maybe not? She seems happy enough in between and I don't let her cry much at all when she does in fear of this extra wind build up. Just not nice for them to get so upset and be woken from sleep this way hey?

Have to take her for immunisation this week so I will ask GP about it all...not that they are much help in that department.

Have to see how she goes in the next few days, but for now thank goodness for Brauers.

Well Bossoflatch,

It seems DD has a milk problem...went to the Dr.'s and after a couple of days of her being 'very upset' and gassy they have told me to put her on a Lactose Free Formula on it's own and no thickener to see how her tummy goes.

Dr. isn't sure if she's allergic to CMP so this will either help her enormously or have to change her to Elecare or Neocate if she's still having such bad symptoms from the LF.

What Formula do you feed your bubs? Has she had to try prescription formulas?

It's all so stressfull, better go she's crying out again.

Talk soon,

Thanks.

sorry i hadnt been back to read your reply :o

i was going to suggest it sounded a little like lactose intolerance being frothy stools and all the wind.. im so glad they have a goal to start with..

ddi you check out the thread with all the ideas for wind pain .. ? i put a few in there that might be able to help you ..they were lifesavers for us..

be sure to keep us update.. we love neocate in this house.. it is the only thing my dd loves to have .. i realy hope things settle some for you
hugs a million

Thank you Bossoflatch,

DD seems to be happier today already (I think).

Her symptoms have been very itchy nose which she is continuosly rubbing against me and it's always seeming runny...rash comes and goes around her mouth and on her chest, vomiting (projectile) if given any normal formula (without thickener), vomiting small thick amounts if given thickened formula...screaming in pain from passing wind as you know and dark green stools either frothy or hard pellets. I think the hard stool problems are caused by the change of formula to the Novalac last week...she will not be having that one ever again.

I will keep you posted, it's nice to have someone to talk to who understands.

Cross fingers she won't need Neocate, but if need be then that's fine...just have to find someone who can write it out on a script for us as the Dr. says she doesn't write scripts for it just to buy it. Might have to call our Pead if that's the case.

Thanks again, lovely to hear from you. Hope things are going well at your end too, hugs.

oh.. the gp cant write a script for neocate..it is on authority hun .. you will need a pead or pead gi to get you onto it hugs .. i do think that maybe you need the neocate .. i didnt reallise there were ohter issues going on with you darling :)

hmm just taking in your last post .. you say dd has an itchy nose.. i would get that looked into .. for us it is allergic rhiniuts.. its the immune' systems way off responding to the build up of intolerance and /or allegies.. my dd was/ is always hitting her nose and rubbing it on me to scratch it .. her pead allergiest got her on some special allergy drops we use them 4 times a day in her nose and eyes when she is on food.. and when required off food.. they are almost the best drug around.. (cant say best ..she has a few others that rate better ) she is also on other stuff for her allergies too :)

my dd would always vomit the normal formula .. couldnt tolerate it at all ..although she seemed to manage breat milk fine.. but screamed ..go figure lol
i would lring you rpead hun and see if you cant manage to get into them sooner ..stress that you are having issues with you lo .. and beg..cry if you have to ..we do .... we let them know that its serious..andthey do listen ..sometimes :chillpill:

good luck hun :hugs:

Hi Bossoflatch, just calling in here to say a big thank you for your support and advice in the last month or so with all of my threads and questions regarding my DD's troubles.

Have been to Paed and things are on the way to becoming all sorted out for her with feeding and settling etc...

He has told us she seems to have Lactose Intolerance and not an actual allergy, phew. So in time she might just grow out of this.

Her reflux and rashes are improving also with keeping her lactose free.

Good luck with your bubby and feeding too :)
