Firstly Huge congratulations on your 7 pregnancy and Twins! How exciting:yelclap:
I was diagnosed with GD (my first pregnancy). I have to say that I was very disapointed with myself.
I had done everything right and was not in any of the risk catorgories. My Ob said I just lucked out.
But it was actully a bit of a blessing in disguise. Even though I was eating healthily I have to admit I was slipping in the odd treat every day. With the Gd I had to watch what I ate very carfully for the last few months of pregnancy. It helped me keep my weight down a bit I think.
I managed to controle it with diet alone and I took my BSL's very seriously. I did not want to have a baby that needed to be taken away from me and put in a special crib.
All turned out well with babiess suger levals once she was born I'm happy to say.
I think the bigest downer for me was feeling like I had failed myself somehow, but that's not logical.
So good luck to you and hope all go's well with you and babies.

I had gestational diabetes with DD - was diagnosed around 27 weeks but by 31-32 weeks needed insulin even with strict diet. I truly didn't find it to be a big drama, watching what I ate was a great thing, I only gained 8kg during whole pregnancy and lost 15kg in the 6 weeks after having bub.
I know my Ob Gyn was worried I'd have a 10lb. baby and they also worry about fluid build-up in their head?? (I think that's what I was told).
My DD came 1 month early (6lb 3oz.) and both hers and my sugar levels had returned to normal within 24hrs of birth. I was never told that she came early because of the diabetes.
All the best for your pregnancy with your twin girls :)
Congrats on your twins!
I had GD with DD and was diagnosed at 24 weeks.
I was lucky and through diet alone I kept it under control.
DD came 3 weeks early and a tiny 5lb3oz and her levels were fine.
all the best.

Congratulations!!! I can sympathise with Squiglet had similar feelings of having let myself and my baby down when I was diagnosed at 28 weeks, have since realised this was me being hard on myself so please don't feel that way, considering you have had five other pregnancies without it is just luck or unluck of the draw.
I was sent to a diabetes educator and a dietician who were extremely helpful in getting my head around what GD is and how to work my diet to control my sugars. I was very strict with myself and my diet after the diabetes, cut out sugar and watched my carbohydrate levels including serving sizes of carbs. Some days it was hard when I was having cravings for food I couldn't eat or had to limit but for me it was just a case of reminding myself it was for the baby :)
I ended up on insulin the last 2 weeks and was delivered early at 39 weeks due to breech and the diabetes, had a few issues but in general they won't really let you go past 40 weeks with GD, though with twins I am guessing an early arrival is a possibility :)
Exercise, even short walks helps your body whilst pregnant and more so with GD. Tried to have a walk each day, didn't push it just took it gently.
Kiah was 5lb 15oz despite the warnings of having a big baby due to GD, I think at the end I was being so strict I may have been under eating a bit, hubby has said he thought I was on a starvation diet by the last few weeks lol.
Kiah's sugars were fine at birth and mine returned to normal within 12 hours.
Good luck!
Wow, you lucky thing finally having twin girls after 5 boys! As you can see from my username, I too have 5 boys, were trying for the girl, and am now 27 weeks prego with another 'boy'!
I have to go for the 2 hour GTT on Wednesday due to my level being 7.9 from the 1 hour test. Can you remember what your readings were?? Out of interest, what were your sons birth weights? and did you have any symptoms of GD before you found out?

you have my sympathy 5 boys and another boy comming. To be honest we had decided not to try for any more and as I was having some complications with my cycle was on the list to have a hysterectomy ( not sure how to spell it LOL ) so the girls came as a complete surprise. My docotor didn't send me for the 1 hour test as I have always had to do the 2 hour one anyways so we just skipped it this time LOL but my levels where only 8.1 after the 2 hour test so very marginal so he has booked me in for another one . Also has booked me in for a c section at 38 weeks. I never had GD with the boys but they were 8pound 4 ounces, 9 pounds 4, 9 pounde 9 , 9 pounds 4 and 10 pound 7(4780grams) so all a decent size

Hi there!
I had GD too. I was diagnosed at 28 weeks and wasn't in any of the risk catergories. I think my test was 11. maybe....
I was on insulin straight away and it kept increasing every week even though I followed the advice of the dietician etc.
I had to go to the maternity clinic every monday for the last 3 months at the hospital with my little cup of wee :o and get checked out and show the doc my diary with all my sugars recorded in it.
It wasn't really a big drama, the injections didnt hurt and the blood tests didnt either, they were just annoying! I had little callouses on my fingers from doing them at the end!
I was lucky too in a way because my DH is a type 1 (juvenile onset) diabetic so I knew all the lingo and facts etc. And he did love to tell the educator she was showing me how to inject all wrong and his way was better, lol
I was induced 2 days before my due date as they said they dont like you to go over, it was a very positive labour and my little princess was perfectly healthy and 6lb 6oz. I'm fine too!
Good luck with everything and congrats on the twin girls! You'll have fun buying them girly things after 5 boys!
sorry if i've just rambled on!
