Hi, I tried raspberry leaf tea with my first pregnancy at about 38 weeks hoping it would bring on labour! In my experience raspberry leaf tea tastes nice but does nothing! There are rumours it helps strengthen contractions but didn't do anything for me! It's about as redundant as all those lovely aromatherapy oils and relaxation CD's during labour!!

I tried the tea with baby number three. (Baby no.1 was born on due date and baby no 2 was born 2 days early with no raspberry leaf). I drank the tea for my last stage of pregnancy and my baby was born 10 days late! I tried the tablets for baby number four and I was 10 days overdue again! Obviously I'm not a great advertisement for the product! However my late dates were attributed to my posterior babies for both pregnancies, and I had long, painful labours. If my babies were in the right position then the tea may have worked! But I did dilate faster with number 4 than with number 3 (A problem with all my labours - slow dilation in the first 5cm). Maybe the tablets had something to do with this.

Some mums think cod liver oil (increases large and small intestine movement thus bringing on contractions), others swear mars bars!! I think marsbars taste better but I'm not too sure they work???

Any excuse for Mars Bars will work for me!! Who cares if they work or not!! :D Mars Bars were one of my major pregnancy cravings - I'd never liked them before and haven't eaten one since she's been born! I'd eat 2 king size in one sitting, sliced up at room temperature then refrigerated for as long as I could hold out and then eat them icy cold from the fridge..... I went into labour 2 days after due date, and had an emergency c-section 30 hours later.

I drank the tea and took tablets daily in the last trimester, as I had heard that it both strengthens the uterus and helps with strong contractions. Georgia was 4 days overdue and after 33 hours of labour with quite strong contractions, I only got to 5cm dilation (was at this stage for hours) and then had the emergency caesar. I did get quite consistent braxton hicks through out last trimester though. All i craved while being pregnant was salty french fries from McDonalds.

I have only heard that raspberry leaf tea ripens the cervix (aids dilation) not that it does anything at all for contractions... Interesting.. I may do some internet searches to see what I can come up with in informative websites!
Proper raspberry leaf tea apparently tastes foul and looks like sludge. I managed to get it with a raspberry flavour (like herbal tea) which made it far less potent. I think the easiest form to take it is capsules if it makes stodgy brown tea!
I had a long posterior labour too so there is no way of guessing what its affect was on me. But frankly, I think it's worth trying regardless.

I too had the raspberry leaf tea with both pregnancies. With the first pregnancy I started drinking it at around 30-32 weeks and DS was born at 38 weeks 5 days. I didn't start drinking the tea until 34 weeks with DS #2 and he was born on his due date and was posterior and would have come out earlier. My obs tried to turn the baby's head when I had just started using the gas and it was very very very painful.
Yes, the tea is very ordinary and I think it can only be purchased from health food stores. With the first baby (born in Summer) I would fill half a jug and brew the tea for 10 to 15 mins, strain and then add heaps of honey to make it taste better and then top up with extra water and put it in the fridge and drink approx 8 glasses a day, it's a bit like self inflicted pain since you already need to pee so frequently.
Second DS was an Autumn baby and I would put as much tea as possible into the teapot and keep adding honey to my coffee cup and drink to warm myself up.
All I can say is it didn't do me any harm.
