Has anyone else had their cats freak out over the baby gates ?
My cat is totally dumbstruck by them as we just installed them due to bubs having free range with the new flooring in.
She wont jump over them but just sits on the other side meowing to be let in or out the other side LOL !
Weird considering she is the master climber & jumper.
Guess she will get over it right ?

My skinny siamese jobs just walk through the bars of the baby gates like they are not there!
Although the first time we installed them, they jumped over a few times till the worked out that they would fit through.

why go over it when she can just meow and you open it for her. That's how the master slave relationship works with cats.
Our persian (who is a bit dumb) can walk one way through the gate, but gets stuck and can't come back. Our Mini Foxy (also rather dumb, but only a pup) does the same thing...

I agree The cat will never jump over it if you keep opening and closing the gate for it. Sorry but they know how to play us better then the kids do.

Yeah i know but i only did it twice & then i was over it LOL.
We have actually resorted to keeping them open when bubs isnt downstairs as it means we dont have to open them for ourselves let alone her LOL.
We are lazy :o
aardvark - My cat is very tiny also but she for some reason refuses to ruffle her fur  Guess she has decided she is too much of a princess for this also LOL.

don't worry I've got three of them and only one of them actually jumps over it. The one who isn't great at jumping, so she trips in the air going over it and usually lands on her head (so much for cats being graceful). The other two winge and moan until I am sick of hearing their voices so I have to open it!
Have you tried lifting her over it?? rather than opening it for her?? maybe she'll get the idea of going over??
I can almost guarantee my cat wont have this problem...he jumps on everything.... you should see his clothes horse balancing routine... not to mention the shower screen.... he walks along the edge while I'm in the shower...he's even been sitting in the door ways looking up at the door.... surely he can't sit on the top of the door too???

Hahahaha gotta love graceful cats :p
My boy cat was like that i miss him so much :(
Its weird not having a room redecorated by morning
Charlie - If i try to touch this cat she cries like im trying to drown her LOL she is only getting more affectionate as she gets older. She is very much the princess who despises humans !
My boy cat actually used to sit in the shower with us if we werent careful as they arent afraid of water ! I dread to think of what it would be like if we had a pool
He used to get up on top of our back door at our old house but being unco he could never get back down so i had to "save" him every time !
Man this is making me want to go out & get another cat !
We put our baby gate about 10 cms off the ground - it keeps the baby out, and the cat can squeeze underneath it (she's not a very active cat)
Mine was the same when we first put the gates in...he couldn't work out how to jump over it either so we had to open it all the time.......he soon got the idea, but now,if I haven't closed it properly,he jumps over and touches it,and it swings out behind him, then it swings back shut with a huge bang and scares him! LOL it's quite funny to watch.
Allyoo, Monty tries to come into shower too .... and bath ..... and toilet..... we have seat down rule to avoid him falling in!!!

What is it with male cats being such scaredy cats LOL
Oh this is making me laugh so much tis great !
Charlie - Are you sure you havent taken my cat ;) :p
Hi All
we have 2 cats (male and female, guess which one is the smart one) , and also installed a baby gate at the bathroom door, since we moved the kittylitter in there to keep my son out. Now that Riley has started walking and chases them both around the house, they figured out that they can escape into the bathroom and be safe from little bubba. So every now and then you see both cats on the bathroom and Riley sitting on the other side staring at each other.....
And talking about scared cats, I adopted Bobby (the male cat) when he was 6mths, and we don't know what happened to him as a kitten, but he is scared as. He even runs into hiding when it starts raining, he doesn't like plastic bags and god forbid should the telephone ring. In a way it's really sad, but then it's can be hysterically funny when you see himin hiding from the raindrops - have i mentioned that he is a INSIDE Cat, so no chance of getting wet or anything. He's been with us for 3 years now, and no need to say that he is still adjusting to a baby screaming around him. But I love him dearly.:p
