OK, i'm 39 weeks pregnant & really not well. I have a cold type thing, sore throat, stuffy head, no voice, cough etc. I'm still feeding MJ, although I swear its just colostrum. IF (and that is a HUGE if as I have never been able to express) I can express, to give myself some of my own "medicine" :p How much should I aim for?

I went & saw a dr today who prescribed antibiotics, said they were safe etc, but I just don't want to risk it.

Can anyone shed light?

Hi RB :) I dunno about colostrum, but I hand-express a little into a cup whenever I feel myself getting sick, and it's probably a tablespoon full? If that? I have more later on if needed, but usually that (plus vit C, garlic, zinc) works magic.

If anything, colostrum would be concentrated and doubly magical, I'd think.

Hope you feel better soon :)

It has never occurred to me to do this...wouldn't your breastmilk contain all of the same things which are in your own system anyway?

Does it really work?

I guess if it is going to work, any amount at all will be beneficial.:hugs: Hope you are feeling better soon.

I was going to say the same thing.

If it were me, I wouldn't be taking the anti-b's... it sounds like a viral infection to me, which anti-b's don't work for anyway

What (if any) suppliments are you taking?

The colostrum will definitely help. Your very own perfect medicine, specifically designed by your body to fight the very infection that you have. Sure, you will have antibodies already in your blood stream but the extra boost of antibodies in your milk as well as the "broad spectrum" immunoglobulins will give your immune system a boost.

HOpe you get better asap, RB.

Just thought I would update this one. I couldn't express enough to even get a teaspoons worth, so gave up. Ended up needing the antibiotics I got that bad :(

BUT.........MJ got it worse & ended up with croup!!! All she would have for the 4 days she had it was boob, & she is back to normal already. I've still got the cough, yucky nose, etc........she has NOTHING.

Gotta love breastfeeding!!

That is absolutely amazing - I had no idea. I thought that if it was already in your body you would get nothing extra from the colostrum or breastmilk.

Glad you're feeling better RB.
