Thought I'd ask - has anyone else picked an obstetrician and/or hospital yet?
and any preferences for private over public?
I just booked into Freemasons and have an appointment with Sam Hargreaves for just before Christmas. I'm going home (Ireland) for a few weeks so I wanted to have a scan and to know if everything is ok first.
What are ye going to do?

I'm going private at the Mater Mothers in Brisbane. All booked in. I decided to go private because:
1 - I have insurance
2 - I wanted my own ob rather than just see whichever midwife is on duty, and it seems usually that is only possible if you go private.
3 - I love the idea of having my own room
4 - the Mater private is right next to the Mater public which has all the fancy equipment if any probs.
5 - Friends who went public told me waiting times for appointments were horrendous!

Im booked into the Gold Coast Birthing Unit, which is separate from the actual hospital which if all goes according to plan, I can avoid totally.
It's the public system. We just cant afford private health insurance. This unit sends you home anywhere between 6-8 hours after the birth (provided everything is OK with mum and bubs)
You have your midwife from the first antenatal appointment (Mine is in Jan 08)
You have that middie come out once a day for 7 days for around an hour to check on things, and then once a week for a month after that.
You can have a water birth in their spas.
I didn't enjoy the experience of the public system first time around with DS, but I must say, they have lifted their game since then, Im very happy with the treatment I have had the last week with my bleeding and worries :)

I am going with the Gold Coast Hospital again.. I had a great experience with them when I had DD, they were fantastic!!! I thought of going with the birthing centre, but not sure whether they will let me after my transfusion that I had after DD.. I just cant justify going private when I had such a great experience there last time..
Its funny really because I always said I would go private!!

Ler - I'm also booked into the Freemasons. I was happy with the place last time and decided to keep things the same for peace of mind. I know how everything works, where to go etc, just takes some of the unknowns out of the equation. My OB is Grant Saffer.

Hi there
I'm going to back to Freemasons for no 3 and my obstetrician is Guy Skinner.
It's a great hospital I couldn't imagine going anywhere else and I am also super happer with my doctor he is just great and always includes my husband and makes him feel really welcome at all the visits. He has already done a scan to make sure the baby is where is should be and everything is going along nicely. Maybe give your doctor a call otherwise I highly recommend mine.
Not to mention the great food and beautiful rooms with nice big beds!!!!!!!
All the best I might see you there !!!!!! :p

I am booking into Sunnbank Private Hospital, using Dr Neil Shilton as my ob. He has been a great Dr always willing to chat about my concerns from my mc to using clomid to make me ovulate and finally conceive. Sunnybank Private is close to home and they have lovely big rooms with double beds. Everyone I have spoke spoke to said their meals a really nice also.
