I am mum to number 2 baby Jazz 10 weeks & we are having trouble with interrupted sleep. (wakes after 45 mins during the day) She's not getting enough sleep in general but nights are pretty good with 5-6 hours at a stretch. what helpful hints does anyone have for re-settling when she just WON'T go back to sleep during the day then as she cat naps through the rest of the day she becomes extremely overtired before her night routine. I'm scared of bad habbits forming that I experienced with my older daughter who now is ok but through the 1st 2 years she was a terrible daytime sleeper.
cheers

Ohhhhh...I feel your pain. I went through this with ds who is now 6 months and always tests me during the day. Having said that, I found a few things helped. He is formula fed and I increased the amount of milk I gave him and particularly found for the first feed of the day he drank more than I gave him but may take less at the next feeds but that made a difference. How long is Jazz awake? Could it be she's tired enough for a nap when you put her down but not tired enough for a long sleep? Try adjusting awake time by 5-10 minutes to see if it makes a difference. I got heaps of tips from a book called Save Our Sleep by Tizzie Hall. I read loads but found that one was great. It's ntot for everyone (all bubs are different) but it worked for me. I wrote a list of things to consider on another thread which I'll try and find. Otherwise pm me and I'll let you know other things I tried. I feel like the expert on daytime nappers. grrr

My second bub is the same. He is 3 months now and is awake for 1.5 hours and down for 45 mins at most. He is breastfed and feeds every 2.5 hours during the day. He will not resettle but is definitely hungry at the 2.5 hour mark. He is pretty good at night, giving me at least 5 hours between feeds but now its more often 6 or 7 hours between feeds and the occasional 8 hour stretch. And once he is down at about 8, we don't hear from him again until he is hungry.

Yes, it is a pain that he won't resettle during the day but I tend to think it is what it is, especially when they are breastfed and you can't control what they take in and when.

There are some advantages to this when you have a toddler. You need to be out and about more so at least you don't have to worry about waking the baby as often. A friend of mine has a second that has long naps during the day and she is already getting reluctant to wake her when she needs to take her toddler out because she doesn't want to mess things up.

My first was the absolute opposite. He was a text book baby during the day but an absolute shocker at night, and still is. As far as I am concerned, I would take this any day compared to what he threw at us!!
