I am having trouble trying to get my 7yr old ds to do his homework. He has no trouble with it at all. Hes quite smart. But he just won't sit down and do it.
I have tried getting him to do it as soon as he comes home but feel like he should have a little break before getting straight into it.
I have tried giving him an hour of playtime and then getting him to do it. He sits there and winges the whole time.
Twenty minutes of homework can take 2 hrs.
I don't let him watch t.v. or play until its done but it doesnt bother him.

It is soooo frustrating.:banghead:

Just wondering what other mums do.
I need help.

Thanks Michelle

My ds who is 7 is exactly the same. Getting him to do homework sometimes is like extracting teeth!! He has to do it or else he will miss out on tuckshop so we do have a bit of a big stick approach.

But I have actually started to get him to do the homework after breakfast in the morning for the past few days and this is working a lot better. He is much fresher and I think one of the reasons he doesn't like to do homework after school is that he is just dog tired. Maybe try it in the morning if you have time.

Hi

I tell my DD that if she does it all within 2 days than the rest of the week she can do what she pleases, I also say she can't go to anyones house or have anyone come here on Friday if she wines about her homework. It has worked for me! Also DD does her spelliong words and reads in the morning while we are making lunches and doing the dishes!

Am I allowed to post here, I know I'm not 30 plus:o but I do have a school aged child. I think they get too much homework after being at school all day:(

We actually do some as soon as we get home and one of us sits with hi,. When his concentration starts to wander we stop and finish the rest after brekky:)

Good luck with it....my boy is only in grade 1 so its still a novelty LOL

Sorry girls.
Anyone can reply. I probably put it in the wrong section.

Yes I agree. I do think they get too much homework. Last year, year 2, was not too bad. But this year he has heaps. He has a sheet that has to be done over the week as well as spelling words to write out every night. They are pretty hard for his age. He is up to quota 18. It can go up to 25. And then he has a reader as well.

I think I will definately try the mornings though.

I remember doing homework anywhere other than at a desk/table. Outside on the patio, on the grass in the backyard...we always walked to and from school, so sometimes we would stop in the park and do some of it there while we had a cold drink, then we would have a play for a few mins then go home and finish the rest of it. Mum always met us at school so she would bring cold drinks and snacks with her.
