HI all,
Just a question when did you all stop wrapping/swaddling your babies if you ever did? I have heard so much different advice on the issue that I thought I would go straight to mums on the front line ;) . Harry is 5 mths old and can not go to sleep without being wrapped, it's his sleep association. I have heard to stop wrapping by 4 mths because they can roll over when they are wrapped hence being a SIDS risk. But I can't handle hearing him cry and whine trying to get to sleep without being wrapped. I'm also worried about summer coming up and him getting too hot while asleep. Anyhoo I've rambled on too much, but just want to find out what others have done.
Thanks, Harry'smum.

Howdy Harry'smum

Eloise is just over 5 months and I only wrap her at night - that's her sleep association too. She's a bit of an arm-waving-dreamer which tends to wake her up. During the day it's OK, when she wakes she usually amuses herself until she gets bored and yells for me, but it's the last thing I want in the middle of the night!!

I haven't heard about the rolling over worry but I was a bit concerned about summer coming up. I use a really light muslin wrap which is fine teamed with her flanny sheets and blanket, in summer I'll do the same just without the blanket I guess and see how she goes. Our house is like a fridge anyway so I don't think she'll be getting that hot! Last summer it was over 40 hear for days on end and the temperature in our house didn't get over 24 - I was wearing a jumper at night! I guess if she gets hot she can always wiggle her arms out - which she does now when she wakes up in the morning if I don't wrap her tightly enough! :p

Cheers

Hi, I wrapped all my babies! Eventually they don't want to be swaddled anymore, it just happens oneday. My first was wrapped for 4 months, my second about 3, my third almost a year and my fourth 6 months! If you are worried about them rolling onto their face you can just sandwich them in between two rolled up towels. I always put a rolled up towel infront of my baby and I always slept them on their side. Also gradually over the course of a few weeks, I loosened the wrapping. Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone for there replies. I will keep going with it until I get the cue from Harry that he doesn't want it anymore. I suppose he'll just show me one day. I have tried loosening his wrap but as soon as his little hand or heaven forbid a whole arm cames out he's wakes and won't go back until he's wrapped. This happens even during the day. I'll get going with it. Thanks all.
