Ok, im thinking about clothes and things for Emerald.
Am wondering if in your experience with premmies, did they grow slower than full term babies after coming home? How long were your babies in 00000, 0000, 000 and so on and how long did they sleep in a basinette?
Thanks, Shell.
Amelia wasn't prem, 12days late in fact, but she was born 7pound and now only 6 weeks later is in 000 already, I didn't buy many 0000 and am now glad!!:yelclap:
Hope I was a little helpfull!! :fingerscrossed:

Jesse was only 4 weeks prem and weighed 4lb 1oz...at first we were buying him 'Baby Born' clothing as he couldn't fit into anything else whilst in hospital!
When he came home I don't really remember how long he was in the premmie clothes but he did put on weight quickly, but because he was small to begin with, the premmie sizes did last him for a while.
As for the bassinet, we had one with the ti-tree mattress which he loved and if he could fit...he'd still be in there now!
My bubba was four weeks three days premmie with severe journdice. She was in 00000 and 0000 for ages!! at least two months..I only brought a few to start with but ended up having to go get more later on as she still hadn't grown out of them.

Thanks for the imput so far :hugs:
anyone else? I want to know if i should bother getting a bassinette coz I wasnt going to before I had her premature but if she will sleep in one for longer than "usual" I will get one.
Really want to have some idea as to what size she will be in summer. I know all babies are different but it would b nice to get your opinions on it.
Shell.
Our bubs were due at the same time, I think. Was she due around the end of April?
I am suspecting mine will be in 00's by summer time. That is just going by the way my son grew etc. I'm not sure whether premmies grow faster or slower or the same if they inside or out though. Sorry.:)

Yeah she was due April27th.
My bub is due early May, so really they should be about the same size?
I would go with 00's. My DS was born around the same time and was in 00's - 0's at that time of year. He is wearing those 0's a year later though.

Yeh I guess it depends how fast she grows, want to know about other prem babies, how fast they grew.
That would be really interesting to know though, what rate they grow at on the outside. I've been following your posts about her, glad to here she is going so well.:)

I'll just give you an example of Jesse's weight gain...
Born...4lb 1oz/1840gm (4wks prem)
5wks (corrected 1wk)....6lb 9oz/3000
7wks (corrected 3wks)....7lb 10oz/3460
9wks (corrected 5wks)....8lb 14oz/4050
3mths....11lb13oz/5370
4mths....13lb5oz/6045
5mths....14lb8oz/6600
6mths....15lb12oz/7165
7mths....16lb11oz/7570
8mths....17lb6oz/7880
So looking back he was really working hard putting on the weight...actually I'm quite proud of him, the little fighter!!!:yelclap:
I'm so glad that I did have a bassinet for Jesse. He was so small and the mattress really shaped around him so he was really snuggly...he was still in the bassinet until he started to sit up...couldn't get him to sleep in the cot...no tetra snuggle bed, just a hard mattress:thumbsdown: !

Hi
My son was born 3 weeks early and weighed 1.9kg.
He was in 00000 for about 6 weeks. Then 0000 for about another 4-5 weeks and he's been in 000 for few weeks now.
My son is 14 weeks now and weighs 5.1kg and has been putting on about 200-250g a week.

Hi sshellzp, Luke was 6 weeks prem, and spent 3 weeks in hospital, (no where near what you are experiencing) when he came home he spent about 3 months in a bassinette, although mine was an old fashoned one that was a bit longer. He is quite long, but very slim. He is now one and is only in 00 and maybe some 0. He spent alot of time in 000 but it all depends on the brand of clothing also.
I think your best bet would be to wait as long as possible to see wether or not you will require a bassinette for Emerald. If she is long it maybe pointless.
Anyway if you need anymore information, feel free to contact me.

Hi my DD was 11 weeks prem, spent 7 weeks in hospital. When we finally got to bring her home she was wearing 00000 for awhile then slowly went down to 0000, 000 etc. She did sleep in a bassinette in our bedroom for about 2 months until we couldn't stand the noise she was making during her sleep and of course she would keep me awake. We moved her into her own room but kept her sleeping in the bassinette for another couple of months until she outgrew the bassinette.
DD is nearly 16mths old and is just fitting into size one clothes, some size 1 makes are too big for her so she does wear 0's aswell. She weighs 10.5kg now. She has spent the last 6months or so in size 0 clothes.

my son was born at 31 weeks weighing 1260grams, he came home at 6 weeks weighing 1890grams.
He didnt grow into 0000 until 4 months old and then 000 around 6.5 months.. he was in 00-0 when he turned two and is now almost 3.5 and size 1-2 clothes.
My daughter was 5 weeks early but weighed a hefty 2615grams, she was in 0000 by one month old and now is 8 months and in size 00 pants and 0 tops and all in ones! :)

Hi everyone, I am new to this site. For more premmie support check out Austprem they too have a great forum.
My son Connor was born at 33 wks at 1.9kg. Was in hospital for 4 weeks and came home at 2.2kg. He is now 10 mths old, 7.2kgs and 73cm. He is wearing 000 bottoms (00's fall off him), 00 tops - very loose but needs them for length or 0 all in ones for lenghth but they are baggy. He is 1.5kg to 3kgs lighter than the full term bubs in my mothers group. He has generally put on 200 to 400gms a month since being home except for the last 3 months - no weight gain.
Take care of yourselves and your families.
Kirsty
Hi Shell
When we brought Ds home he was in 00000 for the longest time, but once he got a couple of growth spurts we went through sizes nicely. Some preemies do grow slower than others, so it really depends on how your Emerald grows.
We put DS straight into his babybed from the first night he was home, so I cant help you with that one, he was in that bed until we converted it to a toddler bed in Aug 05 but now has a Race Car Bed:D .
Best of luck! I hope Emerald is still doing great!! Would love an update!!!:hugs:
