Hi everyone,
Need some advice, my DS is 5 1/2 months and the last few days has been very irritable and dribbling like there is no tomorrow! Im sure I can see the outline of his teeth in the gum, but not too sure because he doesn't like me having a look. At night he has been waking up 3-5 times screaming and just want's a cuddle and then he is fine again for a few more hours.

Do you think he is teething? Have any of your children showed / showing signs like this?

Thanks for listening.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :o

Ava started that caper when she was about 4 months old, without the nightwaking and we are still going strong. In the last fortnight, the nightwaking has been added.

I can see the teeth in the front of her gums and the back of her bottom gum is a little bumpy but nothing along the ridge.

No sign of teeth yet and we are now at 6 month 1 week.

I will join you in the hope for teeth soon just so I know thats what it has been and she hasn't turned into a :devil6: for no reason.

Hi There!

My ds started this about a month before he got his first tooth. Some other good signs of teething is:

if you can get a finger in there the gum will get rough.
Sucking on bottom lip.
irritable or clingy
grabbing at ear
you know it is coming when you can actually see a white line under the gum.

Bonjela really helped with my DS and of a night if he got really upset i gave him a dose of panadol

Its a horrible time for the littlies. :crying:

Ive been wondering if EJ's starting to teeth also shes only 15 weeks though - shes drooling heaps and chewing on anything she can get in her mouth and sometimes cries when chewing on harder things... she also showing the above signs...

Ive noticed a white bumps on her top jaw (insicor? i think) and a white line on her bottom but people say is a little young.. aI ctually asked someone on the lip sucking the otherday cause shes only recently started it... which tooth is usually cut 1st?

Hi Cathyn, I have a 4 month old DD and when she was 15 weeks i took her to the Dr because she was showing all the same signs as your little one and i could actually see the tooth outlined on her gums.

As it turned out she is teething... i didnt know this but some babies have been born with teeth (amazing huh) so i guess it doesnt really matter what age.. they will come when they are good and ready!!

The Dr also told me that any tooth can cut first... it doesnt have to be the front bottom or two.

Lets just hope its soon, im running out of bibs. :D

Just so you know, My Husband was born with two front teeth..

My little one is just Ten Weeks and I think he is teething. although he is not showing all the signs as mentioned above he is drooling alot and I can see his top gum has two very distinct white lumps showing. As for upset... He rarely really screams and before today had only beena little grumpy. But today he just screamed and screamed. I was nearly in tears.. :crying:

Please I am still uncertain as to wether he is teething! I just know he was in real pain today and I couldn't help him.

Just to let you know that not all teething stories are horrible and don't all go on for months. My DD2 has been drooling for months but with no other signs.

2 nights ago she was up all night but not whingeyy, just wanted to play and wouldn't settle. Last night she was whingey but didn't really wake right up and today - First tooth!!

So, I have my :fingerscrossed: for you that your bub doesn't keep teething for months and months - there are some that get it over with pretty quickly!!

Hi we had five teeth at six months. (another is on it's way through).

All of what you described could be signs of teething. Jade started with the drooling and chewing everything in sight! The second one introduced the ear tugging, then we had the red cheeks and sore bottom... so even with the same baby the signs change!

The teeth can 'rattle', that is come down, move up come down, move up... for a while before they actually break through.. like our wisdom teeth do.. I associate it as the same pain as when I had my wisdom teeth... I used bonjella for those too!

I hope your babys teeth come through soon.

Teeth hhmm were do i start ashton was 3 months and 1 week and we had the first 2 bottom ones come threw i didnt even notice till he bit me, then next 2 top ones at 4 months then 2 more the following week and then finally 2 more at 4months and 3 weeks, so yeah we had 8 teeth by 5 months, now he was great threw all till these ones, we at number 10 and 11 now at 9 months and he went threw 8 shirts and 6 bibd yeterday, and clingy and snuggly and waking when he sleeps, and everytime i leave the room he nilly screams the roof down.. lok all babies are differant its so hard to tell and just remember they can come to the surface and then go bak in as ashtons have for the last 2 months so dont get excited till they really out...

We have had all of these pop up within the last 3 months as well as dribbling (and I do mean dribbling!! It is a never ending torrent!), grabbing & pulling at her lower gums, chewing everything in sight, change in BM, shaking her head...

All are meant to be signs of teething, but I haven't seen any sign of actual teeth coming through yet. I'm sure they will be on their way shortly though.... *waiting* *waiting* :D

I keep feeling her gums & to me it feels as though the top ones are more ready to come through than the bottom ones. I have no idea really though! I'll just keep up my vigil of waiting!

Hi All

Well my Seth is 5 1/2 months and we have had dribbling and chewing and pulling at ears and sucking on bottom lip and just about everything else under the sun related to teething for about the last month and a half but alas, no teeth as yet. He also puts his forefinger behind his gums on the top at the front and pulls against them until his finger flicks out of his mouth, spraying drool everywhere! It sounds like when you pop your finger off your cheek and makes that hollow sort of noise. He's not a clingy baby at all and very rarely cries but every two weeks or so we have a really bad night with him. The first night we didn't have bonjela or panadol and it took until after 4.30am to get him to sleep!!!!!!!!!

I have heard that rusks can be helpful to them during teething but I'm worried about him breaking some of it off and choking. Have also heard that firmly rubbing their gums helps relieve the pain (?) and can even help the teeth come through as the pressure helps to break through the gum. Has anyone found this to be true?

Rusks are fine to give - even before starting solids. I asked my CHN today (although I can't give them to my DD just until solids are established, as we have a family history of coeliacs disease & rusks contain gluten - oh well!!)

Don't worry about them breaking big bits off, they will only be able to gnaw away at them & with teeth, may be able to grate bits off the side. Without teeth, you're only just going to end up with a bit of a soggy mess! Just don't leave them unsupervised with a rusk (or any food/drink) and they will be fine. :)
