View Full Version : help - tonsillitis and mastitis
On Monday I was diagnosed with Mastitis and am on antibiotics. This morning I have woken up with what I believe is tonsillitis. Im about to book in a Drs appointment but Im pretty sure he will say it is and prescribe more antibiotics, I get it quite often and know the look and feeling of my throat when I get it (and when I get it I get it really bad).
How will all these antibiotics affect my milk?
I assume DD can catch tonsillitis from me... how can I ensure she doesnt besides not kissing her :( and ensuring my hands are always clean??

what antibiotics are you on? I imagine that they wouldnt give you anything that will cause probs with breastfeeding ( i lived off peneciallian and amoxyl with ds and dd2 and they were fine)
I know when i got mastitis though i got a sore throat so lets hope that its just a result of that if not they would give you the same antibiotics that you have for mastitis (i got the same ones for mastitis that i had to take with my jaw infection and ds was taking the same ones for his tonsilitis)
The only thing that you may get is thrush which is a pain so keep an eye our for that, as for preventing dd from getting it, try not get too close, breathing kissing etc, as hard as it will be!
I hope you feel better soon mastitis alone is bad enough let alone the tonsiltis as well too!
Thanks punkbaby, Im on Staphylex 500 (Flucloxacillin 500mg).
Yes mastitis is enough to deal with with a new baby without the tonsilitis! i will be surprised if its not they are red, sore and have white 'sections' on them. i technically suffer from 'chronic tonsilitis' where my tonsils have large pits in them.. just wish they would have taken them out years ago!
Have drs appt at 3.

ahh ouch sounds like it then if you suffer from it all the time there is nothing worse ds always cops it.
Hopefully the docs give you something to clear things up though and also give the mastitis a kick as well too lucky you got into the docs today thats good.
Thankgod i had my tonsils out when i was 2 seems they dont like to do it now days!
