I just have a few questions I am hoping someone may be able to answer.

I have a friends whos baby was born at 6 months weighing 570gms. He is doing fine and is breathing on his own but wont be able to leave the hospital until his due date.

I am wondering what 'corrected age' is. Is his birhday still on the day he was born or is it his due date?

Also if a baby has arrived this early what happens in the way of teeth? Will he develop teeth later/earlier? My Dd has just had her first tooth cut at 9 months. Will a premmie baby cut theirs from the apporx same time from their birth or from their due date?

Thanks

corrected age is from due date

so say a my baby was born 23rd september but wasn't due till the 22nd of Oct, she' is now just over 2wks corrected, cause its been just over 2 wks from her due date

hope that makes sence

hope your friends baby is alright

HI bday s still the day he was born but for reasons such as milestones they use the corrected age for the 1st year as they might not reach them as quickly and that is a reason why before they jump the gun and assume there is a disability..

SO they will say at appointments. he is for example 12 months old but corrected age is 9 months old....

And they should be at or around the mile stones one should meet by 9 months

Hope ur friends baby comes home soon

I have always wondered the same!

So why do they have the corrected age? Is the baby a little slower to do things or they are not expected to do things until their corrected age?

They have a corrected age because theyre development isnt going to be the same as a full term baby born on the same day, if you get what i mean. Even tho they are born they are still meant to be in the womb.
If a baby is born very premature (like my bub) they cant even suck, open their eyes and such and need to be in incubators to keep their temp up. Hope I answered ure question.

They use the corrected age for about the first 4/5 years.
