View Full Version : Feeding less often = dry nappies

Hello

DD2 seems to prefer to space breastfeeds out to about 3.5 - 4 hours inbetween feeds. Which leads to not as many wet nappies and sometimes they are almost dry nappies. If I try to feed her more often she fusses at the breast (which she does alot anyway as she has a bit of reflux), and doesnt feed much.

Should I just feed her less often when she wants it or keep trying to feed her more often and struggle with each feed. She is healthy and was gaining heaps of weight, but now the weight gain is slowing down, she doesnt appear to be very hungry, but isnt sick.

Anyone got a baby who has a small appetite or not a really hungry baby? How far apart are your breastfeeds? What should I do??

Thanks

My bub is the same.. she will have drier nappies - but I have noticed she makes up for it during the night feeds. Her nappies at night are DRENCHED. Have you noticed the same thing? She has 2-3 feeds during the night so I am not too concerned if she is fussing during the day.. She has maybe 2 good nappies during the day and I change her nappy once at night and once in the morning and both are very very heavy.

I hope this helps a little.. I guess you can't really feed a bub if they're not hungry!

How old is your little one?

How old is she? its natural for her weight gain to not be as evident as they get older and i felt the same with mine when they were around 6 months old they tended to not be as wet but they did have one nappy during the day that was drenched.

Not sure how old your bubs is but if shes around this age it makes sense, if you are concerned though doesnt hurt to get her checked out but as you said shes gaining weight and shes happy

I forgot to mention her age - she is only 10 weeks old. Its like she never really acts that hungry and only feeds for 10 mins on one side then doesnt want any more. She has a feed around 10 o'clock at night then not until 3am so I guess thats considered sleeping through. Maybe some babies are just small eaters? I am getting worried about it.

How far apart were/are your bubs feed at that age?

at ten weeks from memory my bubs were feeding pretty erratically still most of the time there was like a 6 hour stint where i felt like they were hanging off me but the other periods of the day it was 3-4 hourly. They did have a stint where they slept for 5 hours as well too not sure if this helps :)

my baby feeds every 3 hrs on the dot but the 1am session is turning into a wild experiece, nappy wise.
