Hi!

I need some help choosing name for my baby girl. I like the name Alexa very much and I also like the nickname Allie. Any ideas if Allie could be used as a nickname for Alexa or it's not very likely? Is Alexa unusual name in Australia?

Many thanks in advance :)

Hi Inna
If you start calling your daughter Allie as her nickname, I'm sure alot of people will follow your lead (and its certainly as likely as "gazza" being a nickname for "Gary").

I think "alexa" is lovely, a little more unusual than Alexis or Alexandra - but not too out there. You go for it!!

Cheers

If you like it go with it! Just because we live in Australia dosen't mean you can't use that name I think it is a pretty name. We are Italian and our little boy is called Ethan James and if we are lucky to have a daughter we would love to call her Maya (pronounced as you see it written) Rae not very Italian I can tell you. We love those names and if you do too stick to it. The nick name? Well we call Ethan EJ for short and would you believe so does his Grandfather? Nick names catch on if you use them enough.
Good luck
and ps; Alexa, Allie is a beautiful name no matter where you live.

Hi there,

I agree, Alexa is really nice. My fav girls names are Annabel, Holly, Sasha, Amy, Emily (but I think Emily is a bit too common at the moment).

I'm expecting a boy, is it just me or are boys names are harder to pick?

I like Alexa and if you like it then go with it!!

I find boys names easier to pick than girls so my DP got full naming rights when our daughter was born.

My favourites for boys are Jett, Jordan & Xavier.

My favourites for girls are.....ummmm......I like Trinity.

You never know when you see your little one you might change your mind completely  !!

I believe that Alexa is a female/feminine name comes from the Greek Origin.

And as per info from this website: http://www.behindthename.com/php/view.php?name=alexius- From the Greek name Alexios which meant "helper" or "defender", derived from Greek alexein "to defend, to help". A czar of Russia has borne this name.

For us, it is amazing how our baby fits 'perfectly' to the name that we gave to him! We went through many million names before we decided a perfect name for our bub. And to make it hard Thomas has a complex multi-racial background: Australian-British-Dutch-Indonesian-Welsh! So we came up with a great name for our baby. Yep, Thomas is the one :D
Looking back now, I don't want to change his name ever!

So good luck, and hope this info will help! :D
