We got the twinkletoes hand feet package when DD was about 8 weeks old. And I just love it. Definately recommend!

Also I found invaluable from the age of about 3 months, is a sleeping bag or grobag. DD wasn't a good sleeper and when I put her in one of these she improved out of sight. it also helped with her recognising that when she was put in the bag it was time for sleep. We used it up until about 10 months.

Also a rocking chair, or comfy chair in the nursery for those night feeds was an absolute necessicity! DH didn't think it was really worth getting, but afterwards changed his mind. We still use it today as our story chair.

That's all I can think of for now, if I think of anything else I will post again

Hey thanks Supermumof2 this is a great thread! Being a first timer, this information will really help!

Those twinkletoe things are so precious! It would be nice to see the size of their tiny hands and feet forever, i imagine they grow so quickly.

And Deejay, i have seen those grobag things and wondered whether they were good. They seem like a great idea. Do you still use blankets with them?

I have seen a grobag egg thermometer which changes colours according to the temperature of the nursery, so you can just stick your head in and check the colour. I think thats a good idea.

katie: i didn't use any blankets with the grobags, they are intended to use alone and you get different 'togs' or thicknesses/materials for winter summer conditions.

We live in extreme climate from very cold temps in winter to hot 30degree nights in summer and always found DD was warm/cool enough. You just need to dress them accordingly underneath.

And yes the egg thermometers are a great idea too!

Supermumof2 - i have seen people in Newcastle walking around with their babies in those material slings all the time. Me and my friend who is just about to pop out her baby wants to get one, so we looked at them at babyco, about $110.00. Baby will be easy to get in and apparently it is really good for their spine. I personally would be scared to try one as i would be scared the baby would fall out (even though I know they are safe), but i would just freak out with that kind of stuff being a first time mummy.

So any baby shop really, babyco, babies gallore, even baby target i think.

My sister has a normal carrier that you stick on the front of your belly over your shoulders and the baby faces away from you and she said she loves that one because she can still clean the house and use the vacuume whilst she is holding the baby in the carrier. LOL
