We spent a fair chunk of yesterday in the toy sections of Big W, K-mart and Target, and then a decent amount of time in Toy World too.

DD went mental - she was over excited being surrounded by so many toys... but in each different shop, she spent a good amount of time playing with one particular toy - the Baby Alive doll.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about: http://www.kmart.com.au/catalogue/20071101/large.asp?Keyword=&PageNumber=6

It's right at the top of the left page... and it's the more expensive doll ($79 on sale, and comes with a free baby carrier set thing).

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has one of these dolls and if they'd think it's okay for a 2.5 year old little girl?

While I don't think she'll get the hang of the whole thing right away (it feeds, drinks, poos, wees, talks, etc), I'm hoping it won't take her too long to grow into it... and even she can't use it was it's made for (feeding and changing, primarily) she can still carry it around and put it in her doll pram and whatnot until she's ready to get more into it.

I wouldn't have really thought much of it (it's recommended for 3+ but that could be because of small parts... which I trust my daughter with anyway)... except that she's singled it out in all of the shops.

Any suggestions?

I saw these at the shops the other day they are quite cool. :D

I think it's a great toy to buy for her. She obviously took a liking to it and it will help to introduce the new baby when that time comes around!! :D :D :D

We gave it to our DD for Xmas last year (she was almost 3) and she LOVES it. She named it Stephanie, and she plays with it all the time. Mind you, I still haven't told her that she can feed the doll  because she hasn't been ready for cleaning pretend poo, but she changes it's nappy regularly and gives her drinks of water (and 'pretends' to feed it with the bowl and spoon that came with it). I might tell her that she can start feeding it soon :D .

I think it would be a great gift for your DD

Thanks guys!

I got one today... the accessory pack it came in was sold out in EVERY shop... so they gave me another one.

Was kinda annoyed, as the accessory pack it's MEANT to come with has like a baby carrier... this one is just a nappy bag with a nappy, a bib and a bottle that makes gurgling noises when you push the teat's tip.

Ah well...who cares, it was free. :p

hi,

i don't have a daughter but i would buy a baby alive and a cabbage patch doll if i did.

I had both of these as a kid and absolutely loved them. my baby ate so much i tore the back of her throat open though.....but i still loved her sooooo much. Have to admit the cabbage patch was my favourite though....

Just my two cents

Thanks JarKierGor!

We've got a little cabbage patch already! A little dark-skinned one named Jamie Mira. :p

If I could pick any doll to give my daughter, it would be a Magic Nursery doll. I had one, and I loved her. Not as old-skool as some... but I was only born in 1986... :p

 Old-skool is a good term... at least as far as I'm aware it is...????

I might only be 21, but becoming a mother has left me a little not-so-up-to-date on "what's cool." :p

i only recently turned 30...and feel old now. plus i am not in my 20's so i must be old.....old skool makes me think of roller skates, stackhats that were huge and had plastic wrapped all over the top and brown foam car seats....all of which i had.....
Boo hoo

I have my Magic Nursery doll still too! Her name is Lauren Marie and has curly light-brown hair. :p

Also have one of those Magic Nursery Pets... did you ever see them? They were the same in that you didn't know what you got (other than colour of the fur)... the ears came tucked in and you hand to pull them out these little holes to reveal what you go. I think there were 4 animals they could be, and I got a puppy.
