All i got told to try & get twins is to go to a place where there have been a lot of them & drink the same water as they do! (sounds a bit stupid now that ive written it though) good luck
I don't think your crazy, I'm the same I would love to have twins!!! My husband has twins on both side of his family, one of his aunties is a twin and she had twins!!! I think having twins in your family is suppose to increase the odd's, every second generation is the norm, but his family is every generation!! :smiliedance:
my DF is a twin, and i have twin cousins. everyone say's i'll end up with them(DF wants them). I'd love to have them, so long as they aren't first.

Twins usually (nothing is usual anymore!!) come in later pregnancies, or when you are older, thats what I've heard...

Thanks for your replies!
DH's mum is a twin, infact it is rife in his family, but I think it has to be in mine doesn't it? Isn't it up to me to produce 2 eggs? You can see I clearly have no idea lol.
Im going to have a look on the net to see if there is a natural way to try to stimulate my ovaries to produce 2! :) You wait, I'll end up with quads!

2 eggs is no identical and 1 egg that splits into two is idnetical

My OB told me yesterday - as I really wanted twins too:) - that it has nothing to do with twins on the fathers side - they only come from the mother, she is the one that has to drop two eggs or have one split in too etc.
Unfortunatley no twins on my side:(

When i found out i was pregnant with twins my Ob said that i had dropped two eggs. Even though my DH cousins are twins it still came from me and there are no twins in my family so it can happen. OB said that i had good eggs.
It was something i didnt expect we had planned to start a family but twins were the last thing we both expected
If it happens it happens.
Good luck i hope your dreams come true

I've been told by those with twins it's better to have them first- not that you can plan these things anyway. Then you don't know what you're in for! Rather than remembering what having just one child was like and thinking to yourself ok, now times that by 2!
Good luck anyway, I think the odds are something like a 1 in 80 chance of conceiving twins naturally.

mumtoprincesses, I am taking clomid to assist ovluation and it apparently increases your chances of multiple births :) that might be an added bonus if help if falling is taking awhile

I am a twin and there is 10 years before my mother was game enough to have more kids! So perhaps it is best to have twins last not first like she did!:p
I have twin brothers and twins run in both my paren't families, so I hope I have twins (or higher order multiples) at some point!
I've been told I'm mad but I reckon it'd be incredible! :smiliedance:

I bet you wouldn't be back in a bikini after 3 weeks after having twins!!!!!!;)
Twins are lovely!! I definately think its better to have them first as you dont now any better. People always say to me, is it hard? but i don know what one feels like so im none the wiser!
I bet you wouldn't be back in a bikini after 3 weeks after having twins!!!!!!;)
I could make that sacrifice ;) (although my mum was back to having a flat tummy 8 weeks after having twins) besides, I don't reckon I'd get a chance to go to the beach :D

As someone said in an earlier post, two eggs produce non-identical twins and 1 egg splitting produces identical twins. The two egg situation is the hereditary one. An egg splitting is a freak of nature and can happen to anyone-it has no genetic background to speak of.
Im so glad somebody started this thread - i would love to have twins first off - im 30 and so is DF(even though thats not old) and i always thought i would have children by now - twins would be perfect!
Pity there isnt anything natural that you could do to concieve twins!

I personally don't want twins (although it would be pretty special) but anyway, I google searched it and found this:
Increasing Your Chances of Having Twins
So, are there any proven methods to increase your chances of having twins? Well, there are a number of ways that you can go about trying to have twins, but, as with anything, there are no guarantees. Having twins is mostly down to luck, although there are a few things you can do to help Lady Luck along.
Focus on Nutrition
Women who are well nourished are more likely to have twins or multiple births. So focus on eating well and eating enough to maintain a healthy weight.
Eat Yams
Yams, a type of sweet potato, have also been linked with multiple births. A tribe in Africa whose diet consists mostly of yams was recently found to have exceptionally high rates of twins and multiple births. Yams are thought to contain chemicals that stimulate hyperovulation, increasing your chances of conceiving twins.
I wonder if yams would help for general conception:rolleyes:
Good luck everyone wanting twins.:fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

Here is some interesting info girls I found today @www.baby-care-items.com
How to Increase the Chances of a Twin Pregnancy
There is something fascinating about twins and many women long for a twin pregnancy. In recent years, the number of women having a twin pregnancy or even higher types of multiple pregnancies such as sextuplets has increased. This is due to a large number of reasons. Many women simply want to have a twin pregnancy so that they do not need to have another pregnancy to produce a sibling for an only child. The trauma of birth is often something that many women feel that they only want to go through once and having twins would be the perfect answer.
Twins do hold a particular fascination for a lot of people and a lot of research has been done into how a woman can increase the chances of her having a twin pregnancy. Some of the results are fairly unusual. For instance, the mother’s diet may influence whether she has a higher chance of a twin pregnancy. There are more twins in certain cultures and one of these is a tribe where they eat a lot of yams. So, there is a theory that it is a certain chemical in the yams that helps the women in this culture have a twin pregnancy. Obviously, the mother needs to eat re than just yams to have a healthy pregnancy but it is an interesting theory that she may want to consider if she wants a twin pregnancy.
If a woman is breastfeeding when she conceives then she is more likely to have a twin pregnancy than women who were not breastfeeding. The breastfeeding causes a reduction in the amount of calcium in the woman’s system and this has an effect on the egg during conception and ovulation can increase the chances of her having a twin pregnancy.
Older women are more likely to have a twin pregnancy. There is an increased ovulation of multiple eggs in older women and this can lead to a higher chance of the woman having a twin pregnancy. Fertility treatments can also lead to an increased chance of multiple pregnancies. It is also evident that women from African backgrounds are more likely to have pregnancies that are twins or more.
There used to be a theory that twins actually skipped a generation but now it is widely believed that a twin is more likely to have a twin pregnancy themselves. Obviously, this is genetic, but it is another point to consider if you are a twin and want to become pregnant. Similarly, if your family history or that of your partner’s has a lot of twins then there is an increased chance that you will have a twin pregnancy too.
I know you can also take wild yam tablets but they are usually made for women experiecing menopause - however in saying this I had very low levels of progesterone a few months back and this is what I was told to take.
Interesting though isnt it?

What a wealth of information you all are!
Well cant talk now, I'm off to buy some yams!
Buy some - im going to find a paddock and grow some!!!Wow - yams, who'd guess that one!?

Do you think the wild yam tablets would have the same effect?
Valosgirls
03-03-2006, 17:51
You have to be really careful and know what you are doing with wild yam tablets as too much works as a contraceptive - However wild yam is also used to promote fertility so there must be a line between how much is too much IYKWIM? and then of course make sure the the wild yam root is the same yam they eat in those African tribes as there are different kinds of yam - white, red etc etc.
I would think a natropath would be the person to ask about this - isnt there one on the board? I cant remember her name but she would be just the person to ask this:)

Hey Girls I just found this added info today on the net - it seems that the yams that cause this hyperstimulation to create more than one egg are very rare and hard to find - they are not the same 'sweet potato' we have here.
Here is what I found:
This is a great question! First, to clear up your confusion, there are three
different "yams" to distinguish- Wild Yam (herb), Mexican/African wild yam (food), yam or sweet potato (food) most common here in Amercia. The wild yam herb is commonly promoted as an herbal alternative to hormone replacement therapy as it is believed to be a natural source of progesterone. Unfortunately, these claims are not justified because although it does contain a progesterone like substance, it has not been proven that the human body can make the chemical transformation necessary to utilize it as progesterone. It is an effective pain reliever and muscle relaxer, so it can be effective for menstrual cramps, degestive problems, and other types of inflammation. However, pregnant women are not recommeded to take Wild Yam. THis herb has no relation to sweet potatoes or true yams that you eat.
There is also a vegetable called Wild yam, which is very different from the "sweet Potato" or "yam" that we commonly eat here in the US. This tuber orginates from Africa or Mexico, and they include phytoestrogens, or weak estrogens. These substances weaken the body's own estrogen, which is helpful for women trying to ovulate. THese yams are similar to the drug Clomid, in that they stimulate FSH early in the cycle. However, like Clomid, they can also counteract the good effects of estrogen, such as creating strong cervical fluid and properly preparing the uterine lining. Therefore, I recommend eating them often in the first two weeks of the cycle, just as clomid is administered.
Take note- these are not the "yams" or "sweet potatoes" you find in common grocery stores! THese are african wild yams, which are much harder to come by in the US. Try looking in a specialty store or doing a search online to find where they may be available near you. There is no evidence that regular sweet potatoes or yams, as they are often interchanged, have any medicinal value at all. But don't worry, they won't hurt you at all!

I too would love to have twins! I am currently on clomid after trying for a long time...having twins would seem like a "make up" for all the waiting and longing! :yelclap:
A funny story - a friend of mine has one brother and one sister. She has twins and her sister has twins. Her brother has just announced that he and his wife are expecting....you guessed it ...twins! (They're going to contact the Twins association / foundation of Qld....)
Leilani...how long have you been TTC # 1?

Leilani...how long have you been TTC # 1?
Hi Shajake :) Sorry it took me a while to reply...I wasn't expecting a question....I feel very spesh!:o
Let's see, we first started trying in March of 2004. I had just stopped taking the pill and naturally thought I was going to fall pregnant 1st time! After about 9 months I started to really worry about what was going on.....and after 12 months I was in quite a state that I hadn't fallen pregnant. Not only that, but AF was VERY irregular. Then suddenly it just stopped. So we stopped trying.... what was the point, right? That was March last year.
After a few months of "nothing" I saw my GP who said "I think you have polycystic ovaries..." and then I had a myriad of blood tests and ultra sounds etc....and finally went to a very good OB / GYN who knew a bit about polycystic ovaries. That was June 2005.
Her recommendation was to go straight on the provera and clomid...but some of the side effects worried me (not the multiple birth part :D ), so I went to a Naturopath first....after 2 months, I got some light spotting when AF should have been and very excitedly started trying again September-December. NOTHING!
Finally, I went back to my OB/GYN and said....ok give me the drugs!!!! That was 2 months ago.....and now here we are. So, in total it has been 24 months since we first started trying....but really only 16 months that we have actually been able to try...if you get my drift!
:ecomcity: I guess I've answered your question....and then some! Sorry for everyone else out there who are going "hey this is a thread about TWINS!!"...I'll be off!

lol i always wanted twins for my first:)
but got them for my last lol
when i found out i was having twins i did a fair bit of research cause i was in total shock lol...
fraternal twins run in the families.. so if it is in ur families u can have a greater chance of having them....
identical twins dont run in the family... it is umm a freak of nature so to speak.. (not sayin that in a bad way.)...
with identical twins some of the factors are...
how many previous pregnancies u have had
ur age... 30 over more likely:)
how sexually active u are... i gues the more u do it the more chance lol
then it also says things like nationallity etc...
thats just some of the factors...
i was 29 when i fell preggers lol i got ripped offf...
just kiddin... i am having id twin girls.... i am sooo scared but soo excitd as well....
good luck to u all to getting ur twins... but just cause u dont get it first time dont beleive that it wont happen lol
love an hugs

I have read that conceiving in the month you come off the pill and being on folate prior to conception can increase your chances of having twins.

Hmmm that one sounds a little strange to me, how so?
I'd love to have twins as well.
there are twins on my side of the family - so who knows:fingerscrossed:
All I know for certain is that both my DH and I are actively trying to conceive a much wanted baby and if luck bestowes us with twins then they would be a blessing.
After one DS(10) and miscarrying for 10 years, I am not looking to get those lost children back as that just isn't possible. We just have so much love to give, I feel so much love inside. Twins come with more needs; double the feeding, settling, crying more than just one baby. How could you possibly prepare for twins before they happen?? I don't think it's possible, that's why they say they are a gift or just plain Luck....
it would be nice to have just one little babe, just one little bundle of love ooh how I'd feel like a special mum all over again...
is it self-fish to expect or want for more.
I've also read that women are twice as likely to conceive twins in the first month off the pill and the longer on the pill, the more likely. I guess it's the body's way of making up for lost time! Pity it didn't work for us ... we're now up to month 3 and no pregnancy yet, let alone a twin pregnancy!
LOL, my mum has this saying, new house, new baby, well years back we used to rent my parents house, had a baby there, then 5 years later, the rental we were in sold, and we had to get out ASAP so we went back to mums, and I got preg there with twins! (and no, they dont run in my family!!)
I already had three kids, and I was 28 when I had them
