Are you taking iron, or a vitamin that contains iron (most multivits do) because that can have the effect that you're talking about :)

I was going to ask if you were taking iron too. It is normal to have black poo on iron but I'm not sure why.

Totally normal, but stock up on prune juice, because iron can make you really constipated! :D

Oh Great just what i need! Thanks for the advise you've put my mind at ease.
What foods are good to replace Iron? If it's like this through my entire pregnancy maybe i should just try eat better. We do actually eat a bit of red meat and broccoli is my fav.

I've been taking elevit before and during this pg and only recently found out that my iron stores are low so started the tablets. I'm now taking my iron tablet every second day and elevit everyday and it seems to be helping with the constipation. Eating fruit and drinking heaps of water also helps with the constipation.

Yep, iron will do that to you. I've been veggie for about 16 years and usually too lazy to eat veggie iron rich foods so take iron supplements instead. You have to have lots of fibre (hoorah for All Bran!) else it will clog you up inside though.

I was on Ferro-Grad C and thats a shocker for it.

Try switching to drinking lots of Orange Juice. OJ helps with Iron absorbtion, AND if you drink enough it will help more things along.
Also, adding metamucil or the dissolvable kind of fibre to it helps a lot.

It creeped me out too lmao.

Red meat, green leafy veges like spinach & broccoli, & vitamin C foods & juices help your body to absorb/store iron.

Did your doctor put you on these? I wouldn't just stop I dont know the reason behind it but during pregnancy alot of women can't absorb iron properly and need the supplements. I take iron daily even when im not preggers - doctors orders. If I stop I get really run down and tired and pass out all the time. They test your iron levels in your blood tests so if you haven't had them yet you should find out soon if you need to take them.
