Hi
I have been diagnosed (sp???) with Hypothyroidism. Im not on the hormone replacement yet, start after I go to the doctor on Wednesday. I was just wondering, for anyone who has this, does the hormone replacement help??? Will it help me to lose weight??? As I have been trying to lose weight and I cant lose anything because of the hyppothyroidism. I just hope the hormone replacement helps get my energy back and helps me lose the weight. Also any advise about this would be good, from anyone who has it or knows about it:smiliedance: Thanks

Let me start by saying....you are not alone !!!
I too have hypothyroidism and it is certainly treatable but left untreated will cause all sorts of problems.
My is quite severe, I started with a TSH of 91 (normal range is up to 5.0) and of course, very low Free T3 and T4 levels. I was diagnosed as I had put on weight, had pnuemonia, anxiety attacks etc etc.
The Thyroxine/Oroxyine takes a few weeks for you to see the immediate changes but within 3-6 months, you will be an entirely new person. Your immune system will improve, weight will start to drop (I dropped 10% of my body weight within 4 months) and you will gain increased levels of endurance - no more wanting to sleep all day.
Just remember to always maintain taking the pills - they are a hormone, not a drug as such but I stopped over Christmas and have taken a good few weeks to feel better again.
Feel free to PM me anytime - there are a lot of resources open to us for this illness. But to be honest, once you are stabilised on Thyroxine, you won't even know that you have it - except you will need quarterly blood tests to check your levels are right. You do need to be extra diligent if pregnant or TTC though.
Do you know what your T3, T4 and TSH levels were ?

hi i too have hypothyriodism. my levels were terrible, but since 2 adjustments of the thyroxine tablets i am now starting to feel better. the weight is also starting to come off now, i have lost 10 kilos in the last 8 weeks. it's frustrating that you put weight on in the first place. i gained almost 30 kilos in total, i guess i have another about 20 to lose, but i am no longer falling asleep as soon as i sit or anything now and can even manage the gym on average 3 times a week.
just a question for you other sufferers do you always feel hot and sweat too is is it just me? hope to hear from you soon.
good luck to you other sufferers and feel free to email me if you want to chat.:)

I have it too. Have been on Oroxine for years and certainly notice even if I forget a day. I still stuggle with my weight so it may not be a magic cure-all but I do know that if I don't take it its even worse.
I did have some issues coming to terms with being on medication for life but I finally got my head around the fact that I was simply providing my body with what it for some reason had stopped producing (dumb body).
I have inflammatory arthritis as well, like hypothyroidism an autoimmune disease, and it took years of feeling lousy and pain for it to be diagnosed (not helped by the fact that I just accepted that it was normal). Its not unusual for a  immune system to cause more than one prob so do be persistent if down the track you have other problems that don't seem to resolve.
TSH of 91
    OMG. !!!!! Thats outta this world you poor thing.

Yes I do too. Ive been diagnosed for 9 years now but when I first found out I asked about it and I was told, "What do you expect you whole body is in slow motion of coarse your internal thermometer is slow too". I didn’t ask that Dr many more Q I can tell you..:banghead:
I did find a Dr at Chermside who gave me all the Answers I needed. I was concerned about the creepy crawlies. Do you get them too? And the memory loss. I really hate that one. I didnt know it was catching up with me until one day I was calling hubby. "Dave, Dave..." I knew he could hear me. I call louder "DAVE" Angry I walk out and ask "why are you ignoring me". He replied "Youve been calling the cat".. Oh.
Does anyone else do things like this?

And the memory loss. I really hate that one.
That's actually quite scary - I have noticed that on occasion I'm more vague than I was but I put it down to pregnancy, then post-pregnancy etc.... I'm going to do a bit of research on that one.
The TSH level was a bit of excitement...the Dr said  It's 91 !! and I responded with....is that good ? They came back and said that anything over 20 was quite rare. I've always wanted to be rare...and special !
This is great to be able to chat about it all. What levels of Oroxine is everyone on ? and how do you remember to take it every morning (vagueness again...) ?:ecomcity:

You will certainly feel alot better once you commence. I have been taking Thyroxine for 9 years and I also know a lady who has been diagnosed for 12 years and not taking anything. Watching her leave it unmonitored and untreated makes me extra careful that I take mine every day. Good luck with your decision I know its a big one but once in the swing of things you wont realise the difference except you will feel more normal. Just watch your eating routine, even if your not hungry eat something on meal times. I went 3 days once without eating and No hunger pains at all, not only did I gain weight but I got sick...
:hugs: Kaylene
PS Do you all think we could/should we share some of our experiences with this condition???

I remember how I felt when I reached 28, I thought I was going to die. What did it feel like? Were you... conscious?
Ive recently spiked for some reason not sure why yet (always happens when getting a really bad illness or pregnant) Went from 150 to 200 now. What are you on? and how long diag?
I mark it on my calendar and this is my religion. First and last thing I do is look at my calendar. What was a nightmare was when I was on 150. 100 one day then 200 then 100. Meant I had to remember what dosage for the day, they dont make 150's...

I had been sick for a few weeks, a cold, then bronchitis, then pneumonia when I was diagnosed. There are about 6 weeks that I just have really vague recollections of and then one weekend, when DH was away, when I just hit the wall. I was diagnosed in December 2004. I had severe anxiety attacks, remember being at a chemist to pick up some antibiotics and had to sit down. My car was about 100 metres away and I had no idea how I was going to get up and get to it, let alone drive home. Strangely enough, I was able to look after my baby perfectly (he was 6 months old) but couldn't function for myself. I had put on 10 kgs but was hardly eating. My Dr wanted to admit me to hospital but I had no one to look after the baby.
I'm only on 75mcg, started on 50. Does your dose increase the longer you have it ? A calender is a great idea ! I'll do that. I only recently learned not to take them with OJ as it affects the absorbancy. For some stupid reason, I didn't take my pills for about 3-4 weeks over Christmas. I learnt my lesson - I'm still getting stablised and am just seeming to get my endurance back.
How did you go when pregnant ? Was it hard to maintain your levels ?
I'm curious as well - why is the person you know not taking anything for it ? What happens to them long term without medication ?

I started at 50 for 1 year, 100 for 4+ years, 200 during pregnancy, 150 post preg, 200 recently. I have been told that yes you can increase and decrease over time but its a very individual thing, its more common to stay on the same dose the majority of your life. I will log on again tomorrow and reply with more detail, I will have a look for my printouts then too they had heaps of info on this topic.

Ouch. If i miss taking mine now but mid afternoon (same day) I get a headache and have no energy for hours. Have you tried Beroccas? I would be stuffed without them some days.

Yes at first but by 2nd Tri it was fine. Will fill in more here tomorrow.

Lovin the chat ladies. You guys have just listed a whole heap of symptoms I never really thought about like the vagueing out but yeah they sound familiar.
I'm now on 200mcg. Started off on 50, then 100 and now 200 - over the course of about 10yrs. Levels still a little off so needing to do repeat bloods and then reassess, promise I'll get round to it soon...
I am notorious for failing to take it for weeks at a time. Although I notice it almost immediately for some stupid stupid reason I ignore it and put it off and its not till I'm then feeling incredibly lousy that I do something about it. Now I have the bottle in the fridge right near my milk and grab it when I get breakfast. Have really struggled to eat regularly because no hunger pangs, too busy, too tired, just forgot... but am forcing myself to develop the habit of eating it as part of little man's morning routine - somehow that makes it easier, go figure.
During first trimester of pregnancy I actually found I was pretty shattered but don't necessarily think I was as knocked around by it as some others because I already knew how it felt to be crappy and exhausted for long periods of time and how to keep going. Because fatigue is associated with both thyroid probs and my arthritis I had already adjusted my life so if I needed a day in bed on a weekend it wasn't that unusual and was already factored into plans. I'd long ago got over the guilt, although the frustration is another thing... How did you guys find it?

Well looks like I started a good thread for you ladies who suffer from Hypothyroidism. Its good to see others suffer from it too!!! I hate feeling so c**ppy all the time Ill be glad to get on the drug too feel better. My doctor told me I had it a couple of weeks ago after I had some blood tests, but she wanted me to wait a couple of weeks and have the bloods again, so she knows where my levels are at, so she can gve me the right dose. Is that normal??? I found it a bit strange!!! The thing Im finding hard is being so drained and tired all the time and trying to take care of my 5mth old baby. Some days I swear I coould sleep all day and night!!! Ill be glad when thats over.
How long does it take to get to feel normal once you start on the hormone replacement??? Is it expensive???
Do you know what your T3, T4 and TSH levels were ?
No I dont know what my levels were. I would like to know so ill ask tomorrow when I go to the doc, and ill let you know.

hi again.
i take 100mg at the moment after starting on 50. i too feel terrrible if i forget to take my tablet. i find the easiest way for me to remember is to have it first thing in the morning before i have breakfast.
i too have times were i am extremely vague, this worries me as i hope to return to nursing in the next year or two and can't afford to be vague in my job. i also have probs with feeling like i have spiders etc on me at times and haven't come up with a solution for this.
with the sweating and feeling hot all the time, i'm glad someone else has this too, i was told it must be hormonal as this is usually felt with hyperthyriodism not hypo. i get so hot sometimes it 's embarrasing, i can feel sweat on my face etc whilst grocery shopping etc on a bad day even if its only approx 22 degrees. anyway glad to know i'm not the only sufferer . :ecomcity:

Going by my experience you probably wont have any problems with continuing your career. What generally happens is you take everything in your life as first place and put you second. You wont forget things about your patients or your job but will forget to put socks on or something similar. I have some very professional friends with hypo and they dont have any problems with keeping up the appearance nothing is wrong but they admit to forgetting basic things when they go on holidays.
The creepy crawlies come with the territory and they don’t know why. Every single person with Hypo has or does experience it all or some of the time. All I can recommend is an oily based cream applied in the morning. Its aa awful experience, mine are usually ants espec on my back and legs.
K
I just came from the Pharmacy and guess what they have gone and done…. Spewing… My bottle of 200 tablets costs me around $5.90. (Oroxine). They have changed it so that they now come in 5 smaller bottles 40 tablets in each. It now costs for the same amount 200 tablets.... $27.05!!! How rude.

That's odd. I've never had that or the hot, sweaty feeling (although I do put on deodorant a couple of times per day now). I've found my skin quite dry and have to use a lot more moisturiser than I used to.
I have a fulltime very high pressure job and I can do it very well. But you're absolutely right - I forget to maybe switch the TV off before I go to bed or to lock the front door, or pickup the milk. Hubby flagged it with me recently and said 'it's like you almost have to write a list to remember the simple things'. I only realised the relationship to the thyroid yesterday after seeing these posts...:(

Wow, this is amazing I cannot believe there are people out there with thyroid problems!! I was diagnosed with a goitre when I was 13.
It took me ages (try years) to get my head around the fact that I needed to take Oroxine daily for the rest of my life.
Three years ago the docs had to remove my thyroid as it was slowly starting to choke me! It was the biggest thyroid the surgeon had ever seen
Even now I'm still sluggish, tired, fat, sweaty and smelly!! Grr. :banghead: I really enjoy my good days when I have a bit of energy to get me through the day!!! (which is not that very often)
Doctors take forever to decide what is the right dose of Oroxine!! At the moment I am taking 150mcg daily, but when the next blood test is done, they'll probably change it all over again! :banghead:
WHile I was pregnant I was tested monthly!! As when you're pregnant the hormones just fly off the scale.
Glad to know I'm not alone! :)
her TSH was 450+ extremely abnormal..
That poor little angel I can only imagine how she felt.
If I can assist you with any worries you may have LMK ok.
How is her sleeping and eating habits?
Watch her moods that may be the only way you will know when she isnt balanced.
Hugs to DD :hugs:
she wanted me to wait a couple of weeks and have the bloods again, so she knows where my levels are at, so she can gve me the right dose. Is that normal???
Yes its normal, sometimes during this period some people go on a seaweed solution to see if it can boost the immunities but I haven’t heard anyone that this has worked for.
The thing Im finding hard is being so drained and tired all the time and trying to take care of my 5mth old baby.
If you are B/Feeding you don’t have many options but fresh fruit and veg. For the first 4 years I drank Iced Coffee (like litres of it!) all the time but I got sick doing that so I dont recommend. Now I have vege and fruit juice every morning and a Berocca (not during B/F) when that doesn’t work.
How long does it take to get to feel normal once you start on the hormone replacement??? Is it expensive???
It depends on your body, its a different type of normal though. It was about a month for me, don’t expect miracles from yourself though ok.
Cost? .... until today i thought it was completely affordable but now.... read above post...
Good luck let us know how you go.

My Dr told me that I wouldn't know myself once I started on Oroxine and she was right. About 2 weeks in, I started to gradually gain more energy. I noticed that my weight started stabilising then too. Every month I felt better and better.
Often it's brought on post-partum so hopefully yours may fade away after a while. Some of us aren't that lucky but some are !
I'm off to a wellness clinic tomorrow to get advice on how else to combat this. Even with Oroxine, there are still the small issues to deal with although for the most part, once I am steady on the pills, I forget that I even have an illness at all.:)
The way I figure it is that is there are inconveniences in life, and there are problems. Hypothyroidism is an inconvenience.

Sorry but why are they doing this? How long and many times have you increased/decreased? Did you have Hashimotos?

( not sure how to do the quote thingy)
Just click the 'quote' button on someone's post and delete everything apart from the stuff in brackets and the text you wish to keep.
I wasn't born with it - I just picked it up post-birth of my son. By the time I found out, I was so ill, it was a relief. Suddenly having a term to describe everything I'd been going through was wonderful. That said, when I then sat down and thought about it, I was a bit depressed until I realised that once it was being treated, it wasn't so bad. I'm a bit nervy though about getting pregnant with it and what effects it will have so I am ensuring that I spend the next few months stabilising my levels (I was so close last year until I decided to go off the pills as I was 'better'. Very silly, I'm still getting my energy and immunity back).
Is eveything you ladies experencing ( memory loss, amoung other things ) part of not having the right dose? I hope so - I'm actually going to get more advice on this tomorrow - if I remember
Are any of you members of the thyriod awarness webs? and support thyriod awareness week? I have checked out a couple of sites but haven't got involved yet - and yourself ?

hi
i only recently was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, but feel i should have been diagnosed a long time ago. i even as a child was lethargic at times and always sick( my immune system was and still is weak) etc. i never had weight issues until now i was actually the opposite i could never put on weight before.
my current and new specialist thinks i had an overactive thyroid as a child and since childbirth its the opposite. my function is so poor etc they were going to remove it but when they performed scans/ultrasounds it has disappeared/died which is why they feel i have suffered with this for a long time. shows how good my gp's etc where as a child.
at least now with meds i'm much better. heres hoping all of you improve on medication if you haven't improved already.
as for the person who doesn't take the medication and has a prob tell them to do so as untreated it can affect alot of different things. in particular watch your blood sugar levels. diabetes is often triggered by thyroid probs and a bit of advice to all you fellow sufferers always make sure on blood tests your blood sugars levels are checked (i recommend a fasting blood sugar test). see ya:yelclap:

Great idea !
I went to an Iridiologist/Natropath today and it was fascinating. Through my Iris scan, she showed me quite a few areas of my health requiring attention. Even being sceptical at first, I could clearly see my iris vs others in detail and then compare to a basic chart. I was shown to have large deficiencies in Magnesium and Zinc which isn't helped by the Hypothyroidism. So home I come jingling with bottles and potions !
She suggests that quite a bit down the track we should talk about herbs which assist in the 'reactivation' of the thyroid. That is a bit far out for me and I surely dont want to risk regressing again so may hold off on that one.:fingerscrossed:

No, I haven't checked any of the thyroid websites really (cos I don't have a thyroid!). I just want to get on with my life and try to live life as normally as I possibly can!?!

Good luck Kylie - Let us know how you go.
Mine started over 91 but after 12 months, we got it down to under 5 :smiliedance: ...of course, then I decided to ditch my pills for a few weeks:o so now that I'm back on (and have been for about 5 weeks), I'm holding out a bit until I get my next tests done. The last thing I need is my GP kicking my behind.....after I, my husband and my sweet family have already had their go:)
I, like you, have pretty much avoided the whole issue in the past - it's only when I dropped the pills that it all came to a head.:)

Hi, just a question for all you ladies..... how did you actually go about getting diagnoised. I have alot of the symptoms that you have alll been describing and ihave tried to get help b4 but never known how to explain it to the drs.
i am constanly tired to the point where it affects my ability to function. I have no motivation. I have very poor memory and trouble loosi9ng weight. I also get mood swings and and very bad with stress. Also i have NO libido... i would love to actually be able to complain about having a low one(at least then i would have one :/)
I am going to see the drs and get him to check me for hypothirodism and chrionic fatigue. i also think i need to get all my hormone and mineral levels check like zinc and magnisium.

Hi, just a question for all you ladies..... how did you actually go about getting diagnoised.
Ask GP to do a blood test.
I've had to take Iodine supplements (or at least supplements that contain Iodine) to keep my thyroid in check.
Simple enough, beats letting the thing grow into the size of one my mother had - eeeeeeeek, it was an extra head! lol

Absolutely just get a referral for a blood test that checks youur Free T3, Free T4 and TSH levels - it will be clear on that.
I went to an iridiologist a week or so ago who put me on both Zinc and Magnesium supplements too - I feel really good now.

 wow girls i just sat here and had a read on all the posts! i had mine tested when i was around 17-18 becos i wasnt get my periods i had a few blood tests and a u/s in theend my test came back fine for it but found out i had PCOS, is this something you get when born? or can it happen any time of your life? does it go away or do you have it for the rest of you life? i so want to get retested for it but im scared i need to see how my pcos is going and im scared to find out and i need to get my IR tested aswell. with pcos you put the weight on and cant get it off and i seem to be puting more on?? even tho i eat and drink good! and im always tired! but all that can be from the pcos but i should test to be on the safe side im just too scared
Wow! I am so glad to hear that I am not alone with this!!
I was first diagnosed when I was pregnant but have been suffering from this for much longer. It also added to my depression and weight gain, so it was a relief to find out that it wasn't all my fault!!
My count was at 75 at one point, and I remember the doctor calling me up and asking me if I was ok, and did I have the shakes? She had never seen the count so high, and in such a young person. But I felt fine!
Anyway, after a few years, my levels are much lower and being monitored all the time. Actually, I feel like a pin-cushion, what with all the blood tests I have to take. Also my current dosage is 150mcg. I did go up to 200 but then my levels were ot of whack again. I can't wait till they level out... Oh, and I also had a test to firstly see if I still ovulate, and secondly to see how much function my thyroid has. Yes, I ovulate (yay!!) and secondly my thyroid has absolutely no function at all... The doctor was amazed that I fell pregnant the first time. That's why she is my miracle baby!
But yes, I have lost weight since taking the medication and I have so much more energy. I can also concentrate better and remember things a little more than I could before. Hence me getting High Distinctions at uni! Yay!
I hope that you get yours under control as you will start to feel so much better!!!
PM me if you ever need to know anything.
Wow just when you think you are alone you find you are in the middle of a crowd. My daughter was born with hypothyroidism. She is now 2 and a healthy and happy little girl, growing every day. She was diagnosed from the guthries test and was put on medication when she was ten days old and hasnt looked back. I say this because for the first year we had to go to the childrens hospital in Perth for her check ups (we live an hour and a quarter out of Perth) and there I got to meet some other parents that had children with the condition. There was one young boy that has had the condition from birth but was not diagnosed till much later and he has permanent retardation and has some problems with his digestive system still, so I consider myself really lucky that it was picked up early. The only time that we really notice that she has a problem is if she gets gastro as she cant keep the oroxine down and she gets really sick as her metabolism slows right down so she cant get the bug out because her digestive system is slowed, she cant regulate her body temperature and her breathing and heart rate slows down considerably. I have her medication in one of those weekly tablet reminder boxes where you put the dosage in a different section for each day so if its empty you have taken the tablet for that day. You can get them from any pharmacy and you can get them for the month as well. She is on 50mcg per day and she has a blood test every six weeks as she is growing so fast and the dosage needs to be increased as her weight increases. The blood tests are a bit of a downer there is nothing you can do but just hold her while she cries until its finished. She is getting better with them and it helps seeing the same person every time we got to the diagnostic lab. The phlebotomist is great and she makes a little game of it for her and gives her special princess bandaids when she is "all done". I dont dare miss a dose but as I can see by reading all of your posts it must be different for little ones compared to the big ones, but all the same it has been great reading your comments to know that there are other people out there who are willing to talk about the condition so openly thankyou to you all!!:smiliedance:
is this something you get when born? - Sometimes yes
can it happen any time of your life? - In Most cases it developes later in life
does it go away or do you have it for the rest of you life? - The rest of your life (or until they find a cure)
i so want to get retested for it but im scared i need to see how my pcos is going and im scared to find out and i need to get my IR tested aswell. with pcos you put the weight on and cant get it off and i seem to be puting more on?? even tho i eat and drink good! and im always tired! but all that can be from the pcos but i should test to be on the safe side im just too scared - Dont be scared. If you get it, then you get it. There is very very little you can do about it. BUT... if diagnosed early and you get treated properly and tested regularly you might find that you will start feeling more like a normal person.
Just get em tested you cant change the outcome by worrying but you can certainly make life easier once you know.

Good Luck :fingerscrossed:

The only time that we really notice that she has a problem is if she gets gastro as she cant keep the oroxine down and she gets really sick as her metabolism slows right down so she cant get the bug out because her digestive system is slowed, she cant regulate her body temperature and her breathing and heart rate slows down considerably.
Another sign is her eyes, they will loose that sparkle and almost look cloudy.
She will appreciate having a strong routine and a good example for thyroid control later in life.
Your a good mum. WELL DONE TO YOU.:yelclap:

Thanks for that tip its so good to get the "heads up" on some issues. I told the doctor that she has better digestive function when I give her tablet to her in the morning and he said it shouldnt make any difference, theres lots of little things that Ive noticed that the doctors dont give credit to but maybe they should. Its not a widely recognised disease which is ok but sometimes you might find something that makes it easier, which is where forums like this are great as you can share it with others and find out if its also made a difference to someone else. If nothing else its just consilation that youre not going totally batty. No tests were done on my daughter except for blood tests. How do I get to find out what is actually wrong with her thyroid Ive asked the doctors but I keep getting the run around
I told the doctor that she has better digestive function when I give her tablet to her in the morning and he said it shouldnt make any difference - Taking them in the morning gives me an appetite for the day otherwise it could be 10pm before I feel like anything to eat. Morning suits me too. The Dr will tell you all sorts of things that don’t relate to Thyroid functions but what I have found is there are way too many symptoms in common that aren’t text book.

Actually it is a hugely recognised disease, when I was diagnosed nearly 10 years ago I was told 1 in 8 people in Brisbane had it. Try : http://www.healthboards.com - Is a great site for thyroid chats and heaps of old timers with loads of helpful info. Its American so the meds are slightly different but the symptoms and the woes are the same. You will see a lot of Aussies there. Even just to have a whinge its great for support and advice.

How do I get to find out what is actually wrong with her thyroid Ive asked the doctors but I keep getting the run around - Blood tests are the first step to diagnose and monitor. Get a print out from your GP each test and keep a record (You need to know her cycles for next year it actually works in a neat pattern - more on that later getting tired). Ask them to explain in great detail what it all means and Write It Down. If you are still concerned and not getting any answers, change your GP/Hospital and ask to them to refer you to the local thyroid specialist. Take everything you have to the visit. Also read up on it using the above website it will help. Start demanding answers request references and referrals until you know everything, as proper diagnosis at this early age is very important.
Good luck and LMK how you go

Hi There
I`m new to this site having searched around for info on my underactive thyroid..what a find...great for info from other ladies and useful for me and my 5 mth old baby girl too in other forums etc.
I am on 125 per day and was diagnosed 16 mths ago after a meltdown at work as a gym instructor. i was exhausted!! I went to the docs thinking I was just run down and she did some tests. I was shocked to find I had an underactive thyroid and struggled with the realisation I would have to take meds for life. A month later I fell pregnant as hoped and since have been breastfeeding. In that time my meds have had to go up and down with each phase of pregnancy. I was on 50 to start and went up to 150 when pregnant. Then back down to 50...for 3 months...to then be told my levels were so low the doctor didn`t know how I had got up every day. Well I was tired but just put it down to having my new bub! So last week I started on 125! I have lost some weight already but feel it is hard for me to judge how I feel as I have either been pregnant or feeding a new bub since diagnosed!!!. Has anyone else had this problem??
Look forward to chatting

That's actually quite scary - I have noticed that on occasion I'm more vague than I was but I put it down to pregnancy, then post-pregnancy etc.... I'm going to do a bit of research on that one.
The TSH level was a bit of excitement...the Dr said  It's 91 !! and I responded with....is that good ? They came back and said that anything over 20 was quite rare. I've always wanted to be rare...and special !
This is great to be able to chat about it all. What levels of Oroxine is everyone on ? and how do you remember to take it every morning (vagueness again...) ?:ecomcity:
On 125 a day and set my phone alarm for 7am or i am hopeless

Hypothyroidism
Hi Everyone,
I am just new at this, and just come across this website.
I found out last year that i had an underactive thyriod.
I am taking Oroxine 75mg once a day.
My TSH is 26.11-High
MY T4 is 9.7- Low
I have a question if anyone call help or comment please.
First Question: I know we all have weight problems, but has anyone gone on a diet or weight loss tablets and lost weight from it, and how much have you lost.
I asked the doctor about the weight problem and he said the tablets should help you loose the weight, but they have'nt.
I have the sweats bad and have tried everything like hair laser, not using perfume deorandt, now next week i am going to get botox done under the arms cause i am sick of my clothes getting stained and stinking.
I have not had anymore side effects like the other people i have been reading up on.
Thanks
Nicola

Hi Nicola I have hypothyroidism aswell and with the Thyroxine tablets it is currently under control. I don't know my exact number but i am having it checked next week, my levels have to be below 2.5 as i am pregnant. My thyroid condition was the cause of my recurent m/c so I was told to take the tablets and lose some weight to give my body the best chance. I am 11 weeks pregnant at the moment and hopefully everything is going well, i have had 2 scans so far and bubs is growing and looking beautiful. As for weight loss I lost a total of 17kg in just over 11 weeks but alot of this was due to the extreme exercise regime I put myself onto. I changed my diet alot too which is never a bad thing and felt so good after doing it. The thyroid tablets help me maintain the weightloss not necessarily aid it, i know this because in the first 6 weeks from my diagnosis I was not on the thyroxine and I lost 11 kg. Since I became pregnant I have not put on too much whereas when i was pregnant with DD I put on 7 kg in the first trimester.
I'm sorry that your are having some side effects that are difficult I too struggle with the sweats and I have been losing my hair. When I first told my hairdresser she said 'that's ok you have very thick hair anyway' but since then you can tell it is thinning out and I have a bald patch at the front now. It can be embarassing but at the end of the day I want a baby more than i want my hair so I put up with it lol. I hope that I was of some help to you and if you ever want to ask any other questions or just need to talk i am here to listen. Best of luck.
