In reality I will prob have 1 beer and half a block of chocolate and go to bed by about 8:30pm!!!

Evening Ladies,

Well Jamie was due home tonight, was calling once he reached Tibboburra (360ks NTH of Broken Hill), he was actually 250ks north of that in the corner country, (SA/QLD/NSW Borders)that was meant to be around lunch time. Still no word so am getting a little worried.

I have used the Brauer Teething relief for the girls. I seems to always solve the problem. Well with Mia there were nights where nothing would help but with Elly, in these early stages, (no teeth yet) when it is seemingly teeth she is soothed.

Penny: i know those days, hang in there and the only advice i have is to keep changing the activities. I know it is time depriving of what you may have to do but it does help.

KIM: i have only been to Melb. once. Spent it at the footy and the pubs!! Pre children of course

JEN: it's funny how you can't get out of the country quick enough and if i never saw a city again I would be happy.

Ok well time to get the girls (well the little one, big one is waiting for Daddy) to bed.

Reece ate a whole tin of baked beans for brekky, so that's something else added to his diet. I mashed them up a bit, but next time I won't mash as much.

What's everyone up to for the weekend?
We are taking Reece to a 1st birthday party tomorrow, I'm sure it will be the first of many lol.
Then on sunday it's DH's birthday and his mum is having a BBQ lunch for the family, should be good.

Not much happening this weekend, got a new car alarm for my car so DP is spending tomorrow working on installing that. Sunday we will no doubt end up at the inlaws. Cant wait for that..... really....

I should also be cleaning my house. Have done most of it just a few things left to do.

Went shopping today and bought some new jeans and a few tops. Felt good spending some money on myself for once. Still managed to get a few things for Cassidy though.

Anyways, still debating with myself weather or not i should go to Sydney.

Im weird though . We moved here after living in Norwood (I assume since you are a (sort of) SA person you will know where that is) smack bang in the middle of snobsville and surrounded by cafes and nice shops etc all we did was spend, drink, eat, spend , eat, drink - so we moved here and it was such a different world. I have always been a bit of a tom boy and got right into this whole new way of life but after 4 years of having to drive 50ish kms to the nearest supermarket, 10kms to check my mail, having no rubbish collection, filthy dirt roads with massive potholes that never get fixed, hundreds of cows that moo non stop during a full moon or are just cos they feel like it, snakes, rats, mice (all in the house) rabbits everywhere, foxes that tear open our bins and leave rubbish everywhere and taunt our dogs, running out of water and having to wait nearly a week for some more to be carted in, the almighty bushfire that nearly destroyed our house on Australia day 2005, roadkill, roadkill, roadkill OMG the roadkill in the country is gross (Im talking Koalas and kangaroos here) redneck neighbours (3kms away!) that threaten to shoot our dogs then invite us over for scones - GET ME OUTTA HERE!!!!

Ask me how I like living in the city after a week though - I will prob hate that too and miss it up here!! :yes:I'm sure I will have so much trouble sleeping in the city...

If only I could have this place as a weekender then i would prob be happy as Larry :)

Sorry just realised Im am really boring huh

Only half a block?? Geez... if you get that far you might as well eat the whole thing... otherwise I'll do it for you!

No, you're not boring at all. This might be a naive city girl question, but how do you get rid of your rubbish if it isn't collected?

Bury it, burn it or once a month DH loads up the ute and takes it to a collection station (25ish kms away, a truck that comes once a month and you have to line up to dump rubbish in it). It's gross - imagine keeping a whole months worth of your household rubbish - smelly nappies etc and then putting it in the back of your car and drivings with it... thats what he does. It's just gross - and we still have to pay ridiculous council rates and we get jack sh!t for it.

We had a "waste transfer station", otherwise know as the dump 10 ks away at the last place we were. We were not permitted to dump our rubbish in pits on the other properties like we had done previously. There we use to load it in the bucket of the tractor and yours truely would go dump it.
The storing of house hold rubbish is what annoyed me the most. I LOVE the rubbish man calling past every Friday now.

Ballarat's really nice Kim - hope you have a nice time looking around. Are you looking for houses to live in?

Jen I'm such a city girl I think of Melbourne as a big country town. I would hate to be so isolated I'd find it a bit scary. My BIL and SIL live in the middle of nowhere and I can't sleep for the silence when we go there!

Oh and if its any consolation I ate a whole giant bag of maltesers tonight..feel...very...sick

Marianne - hope you hear from DH soon (well hopefully he's home now) . That link to your photo didn't work - can you do it again?

Fingers crossed - I'm going for night two of no dream feed. She slept 7-7 last night (with no feed) so lets hope that's a new pattern :)

Looks like i am going to Sydney next week. Dont know if i really want to go as it is just too much effort....

Are you anxious about the flight?

Lily is a lot happier today so i think the pain from her tooth coming through must be settling down. She played on the floor today (while i watched) for over 1 hour!! It feels liberating not to be carrying around a whingy baby for a change.

Those whose babies are still whingy - if you think it is teeting you should try this homeopathic thing called "hylands". they are tablets that dissolve in the mouth. Lily loves them and she rubs it with her tongue onto the sore gum and it really seems to settle her down. i got them from the pharmacy in the baby section.

I'm going to see if I can get some.

Enjoy Ballarat.

As for us, well we had a lovely day. Met a girlfriend for coffee this morning and had to do some grocery shopping. I'm making cupcakes for my neices birthday party on Sunday, pink with sprinkles. Yum!!

Tommorrow Jake has swimming in the morning, then we'll come home and bake the cupcakes and then off to my parents for dinner and then back home to ice them.

Sunday two parties, 1 at 10.30 and then 1 and 2. Actually we had 4 but had to decline 2 of them due to them being at the same time.

I gave B and M shredded cheese today. They are really trying to feed themselves. It's funny to watch really.

Anyway, have a great night and a fantastic day tommorrow and I'll check back into say hello.

I absolutely HATE flying. I don't think I'll ever see the world. Unless they invent instant transport machines in my lifetime.

Hels - sounds like you are doing well introducing new foods to Reece! We haven't got much planned for the weekend........just relaxing I think.

Juzzy - two weeks sounds like a better idea....I think I would only want to go for a week or two if it was me! I actually really like flying.......but I can understand those who don't.

Sharon - I bought some full fat cheddar for Liam to try.........trying to get him interested in something other than fruit, vegies & yoghurt. Do you also melt it through their vegies?

Liam's first tooth is finally coming through. It's a bottom tooth that's just cutting through.........but it's crooked  . DH has very crooked bottom teeth and mine are a bit crooked too but I didn't think the baby teeth would come out crooked..........I will ask the dentist on Monday because I've got an appointment for a check up.

Sandy - thanks for the info re: size of finger food..........Liam's been very grumpy the last two days so has not been interested much in food or even his formula which is unusual for him........he's also been a bit sick so I think it's related to the teething.

Penny - I hope Kaelan is back to his cute self now or is he still feral??

Question: When introducing a new food.........do you try it separate from a mealtime e.g. give the usual for lunch but try the new food at morning tea time or do you try it at lunch time and only offer a small amount?

It was DH's last day at work yesterday........he's changing jobs and got so drunk he didn't call to say what time he was coming home.......unusual for him but I was really annoyed because it took me ages to get Liam to sleep and when he did call DH was slurring his words so badly..........everyone kept buying him drinks. I'm glad he doesn't do that very often. We all love a drinkie but that was rediculous and we ended up having take away really late. I'm over it now but at the time felt really ****ed off especially as Liam had only 2 short sleeps the whole day

Highly recommend a Canon printer... they print really well, they're cost effective and so are their printer cartridges (as long as you buy a printer with seperate ink tanks).

Jack stood up in the cot today. He didn't have an afternoon sleep and is currently screaming in his cot. He just keeps turning over and sitting up or standing. He's exhausted..I can hear it in his cry

This will be a fun phase  I've just been going in and laying him down and telling him it's sleep time. Not sure what else I can do

Squiggles - how clever is Connor! Just goes to show the more we teach our bubs the more they learn!

Mon - I did think it was very cute when Liam waved goodbye. I'm trying to teach my Liam that at the moment.

Lauren - it's a killer on the back when you lower the cot. We did this a while ago and DH has no problem because he's taller but I find it a nightmare. Liam does that too.........stands up in his cot.....anything to avoid sleep really.

Penny - I worry about Liam getting out of his cot too.......it's like we've got to be one step ahead of them all the time!

Blubber - we've got a Canon i550 which is a bubblejet type thing I think. Not expensive, fairly basic but we've had no problems with it. Of course a laser printer would be better and ours is a few years old.

Hannah - I'm really hoping my work lets me stay working 2 days for as long as I want to. It's going to be hard enough doing that at first. Will you look for something closeby? That would be better as you would get home earlier to pick up Hannah from daycare.

Poor Liam was climbing over DH's stomach yesterday and DH didn't try and catch him so Liam fell head first into the playpen which was on it's side. Hit his nose and cheek so got a bruise and some mild swelling. Pity we can't put a cold pack to help with the swelling

Going on a picnic in the park today with some other mums and bubs. It is looking a bit stormey - hope it doesnt rain.

Re: work. It feels like my work said they were going to be very flexible when i came back except now they are specifing hours that i must do - and this might be at times that dont suit lily. In my case it seems like all the other staff get their pick of roster and i am the dogs body. This seems unfair as i have been there the longest and i am the only one with a baby/child.

In the end if they wont give me hours that i want i will have to go elsewhere to find those hours.

I also need to have a quick whinge about childcare. I have been offered and accepted in writing a place from the 27th jan 2 days a week. I called to sheck that everyything was OK and the coordinator says that the room is being reorganised and my position may be ready after xmas or earlier and if i dont take it then they will give it to someone else. Bit unfair as it has all been confirmed in writing for the end of jan. doesnt that mean we have a legal agreement?

I'm finding it about the same as before. Liam knows to hold on to my hands and stand up, then I pull him out from there. The hardest thing is putting him in when he is asleep without waking him. That requires more bending. But usually I put him to bed when he is still awake, so it isn't a huge issue.

I should be doing some housework during Liam's morning nap, but I'm not. :)

We had a horror of a night..lots of standing up in the cot and screaming. Both teeth are fully thru now.

I lost it this morning and told DH to deal with Jack. He wouldn't lay down and was kicking me when I was changing his nappy. Anyway I woke up 3 hours later feeling somewhat calmer.

We now have dadadadadadada and he clearly said hello twice today. Wonder if it's a fluke?

Jo - Jack has a bruise on his forehead as well as a massive scratch. He looks like he's been beaten up  The hazards of an active baby I guess

Shazza - I'd stick to your guns re: childcare. In my opinion they should honor the original agreement.

That's exactly how I feel about work too.

I have had the same problem with child care - I put Eloise's name down about 3 months ago (just in case)for a place we really liked. They said there'd be no problem with us having a place end of Jan. I phoned last week and they said that parents were agreeing to take places now so they would give them the places instead  I'm so angry because they never phoned to tell us. Thankfully I've found somewhere else but now I'm wondering why they've got places

I don't mix cheese with their vegies, because I never even thought about it, but I guess you can.

I don't separate the introduction of a new food from mealtime. I usually like to introduce a new food in the morning. This way if there's a reaction and you need medical assistance, it's during the day not in the middle of the night.

I actually thought re work, that your employer must give you the same working conditions as before you left on your maternity leave. Have you tried to phone wageline or something like that to find out?

Re childcare, they do this to ensure the spot. You're better off taking the place and letting Lily adjust while you're not stressed with going back to work. That's what worked for me.

Us - Well we've had a busy one. 2 parties this morning and 1 this afternoon. Kids are just exhausted.

Ben is waving hello and shaking his head to no. Matthew is clapping and making kissing noises. All I heard all the way home from my parents on Saturday night were these noises. Took me a while to work out what it was.

Anyway, I'm off to make some cards. I'll speak to you guys tommorrow.

We have no clapping (he is close) or waving. He has started crawling on all four for short distances. If he needs to get somewhere in a hurry though he will still commando

I need some suggestions. What else can i give Jack for breakfast. He's allergic to apple and pear. Farax makes him constipated and were off yoghurt as I think he's having a skin reaction to dairy.

What's everyone else giving for breakie???

Lauren, teething is the worst. I give Ben and Matthew Nurofen at night and that seems to give us a bit of respite. It seems to target the teeth pain rather than a general feeling better.

Re breakfast, I gave Ben and Matthew, Semolina this morning. They weren't sure about it. What about Weetbix with Formula or breastmilk.

Toast with or without vegemite.
A couple of cruskits.
A banana.

If I think of anything else, I'll post it.

Hope you have a better night tonight.

Lauren, I give Connor weetbix and he loves them - he has about 1.5 bikkies - I soften them with hot water then just add a small amount of milk, good source of fibre so no trouble with the constipation (Farex IMO has too much iron which blocks them up). he sometimes has omelettes or scrambled eggs, just made with the yolk. Other times I will give him fruit salad -I normally use bananas, kiwi fruit and peaches, just cut up in small pieces or mashed together. You could try little sandwiches - like vegemite sandwiches, cut up again in tiny pieces. Connor has tuna on toast or cheese on toast in tiny peices but if you are avoiding dairy them maybe not so good. Have you tried unhomoginised dairy for him? It's easier for them to digest too - I have been giving connor this and his eczema has been ok on it. Hope this helps!! (And yes, In case you were thinking it... I am totally anal about food!!)

Thanks for the tips on breakie Ladies

Jen you certainly give Connor a varied diet. That's great. Poor Jack's a bit deprived when it comes to food. He probably gets bored :o

Sharon - I've been giving him Nurofen. We get a block of about 4-5 hours when he has it. He's been shocking today too. I think he may have a little cold on top of the teeth

DH was meant to be getting home early but hasn't shown up yet...GRRR! I wish he wouldn't say it then I wouldn't get dissapointed when he doesn't show.

Lauren, Elly has peaches, mango, kiwi fruit and banana. Just some extra fruit ideas.

Well Mia was having a "rest" in her beanbag. Decided she wanted to play with a toy we got from the toy library today WHILE she was sleeping. Explained it was a no, she threw a tanty and i actually had to drag her back there after she started swinging at me. (this is a first). She settled down and actually went off to sleep.
I was sitting in Elly's room packing for holidays and i hear a massive thump. She slept walked into the door frame on her way to the toilet.
So from being over her to needing to comfort the poor darling was a bizzare chain of events. She is ok but has a big lump on her head.

Lauren - try alternating panadol and nurofen. Then you could give the panadol 4 hrs after the nurofen.
If you want me to send you some hylands let me know - i am going to the chemist that sells them tomorrow.

My DH does the same thing and it drives me crazy. It's not uncommon for them to get colds while teething, ziggy's suggestion for alternating nurofen and panadol is a good one, therefore he gets a consistent dose throughout the night.

I've had a blah day. Must be hormones or tiredness as I've been sh!tty to everyone, which isn't really like me. I've had no patience at all, and everything that everyone is doing irritates me. L is usually a good sleeper and goes to bed with minimal fuss around 7.30pm, but he must have known that I was grumpy and he decided he wanted to stay up and play. Took DH until 10pm to tire him out. I decided to clean up the kitchen a bit instead... otherwise I would have become frustrated.

Enough about me and all my blah.

Lauren - Breakfast - I've been giving L weetbix with hot water and milk. He eats 2-2.5... although a lot of it ends up mooshed in his hair. Yesterday it looked like he had gel in as it dried and made his hair stand up. Interesting look. I'll also give him a bit of my toast to occupy himself while I eat. Started with the crust, which he would suck, but have now progressed to about half a piece, which he'll eat. I put margarine and vegemite or 100% fruit jam.

Contrary to what someone else said, I give L big bits to hold, and he chews smaller bits off it. e.g. I'll slice a kiwi in quarters lenghways and give him a piece to hold. Makes a mess, but he enjoys it. I know Jack gags on some stuff, so I guess you'd have to see what works for you.

Also for brekky I've given L baked beans, cantaloupe, kiwi fruit, banana, yoghurt, baby oatmeal. Not all at once obviously. Hope you find something for him.

My MIL is convinced that cruskits cause constipation, and thinks I shouldn't be giving them to Liam. Anyone know anything about this? I haven't noticed any problems so far, although L usually puts a lot of effort into a poo and goes really red in the face... sign of constipation, or just a lot of concentration??

I'm going to bed. Swimming lesson in the morning. So much can't be bothered.

Jack does the same but his poo is like sheep poo..little balls and there is less of it so I know he's having a bit of trouble.

We wagged mini maestro's yesterday. I was having a blah day too and couldn't face singing songs and dancing.

Hope your feeling better today :)

It's soooo annoying isn't it? He said he would be home at 1pm which turned into 3.30 but he never got here until 4.30  Better late than never though. He was home in time to bath Jack for me which was good.

Jack slept thru so hopefully that means he's feeling better. I have a client coming this morning to look at Jewellery. Other than that I'm doing a big fat nothing

Hope you're feeling better today Lauren and Mon.

I think all my brekkie ideas have been covered here, but I just had a thought - I've heard that banana and weetbix can cause constipation (if they have too much). I'm not sure if that's true because I don't give either every day, but it might be something to keep in mind. As for the cruskits - well I can't imagine it would cause constipation, after all there's nothing to them really. Eloise always concentrates on her poo too!!

Have a lovely day all :)

Kaelan has been quite constipated lately... and no amount of pears or other high fibre foods seem to make any difference. The dietitian said not to use prunes (which was going to be my last resort) as it causes the abdominal cramping which would be no fun for him or me !!

For the record, he also eats cruskits... but I really don't think it is related to that.

Breakfasts for Kaelan are usually Oatbrits made with formula, apricot porridge (Farex brand), normal porridge (not too keen on this) and usually a little bit of toast on the side.

I've been really experimenting with Kaelans foods since the dietitian appointment last week and I've discovered that my little man loves Beef Bourginon :D Yesterday I also tried him with some "Oops"... which is basically canned spaghetti in the shape of little O's... perfect size for a baby and they even come in a baby-sized can so minimal waste... I highly recommend them !!

Today we have our four week review at the Physio/OT/Speech but I doubt there will be much of an issue as Kaelan is now crawling around EVERYWHERE (the reason why we were initially referred was because the MCHN was concerned that his 'allergies' could have affected his ability to crawl... obviously not !!). After that appointment, we have our mothers group so it's going to be a busy day (hopefully enough to tire the little munchkin out !!).

K started out quite shaky with the crawling... but is now starting to gain more confidence and is picking up speed. Yesterday he crawled over to my kitchen table... found the power cord to my laptop and started pulling HARD (my laptop is no longer on my loungeroom coffee table for this very reason). Thankfully, I saw what he was doing in the nick of time and raced over to catch my $2000 laptop as it went flying off the table. So, so close !! You can't turn your back on these kids for a second !!

Ok so Im going to sound like a know all, sorry can't help myself! I know lots about poo:D... Not sure if any of you remember me complaining about it a while ago but connor was chronicly constipated from about 6 weeks old... so the recomendations from my paed are as follows -

- Magnesium relaxes the bowel muscles and attracts water to soften stools - add more food high in magnesium - eg spinach, brocoli, whole grain cereal, lentils, avocado.

- More fluid

- Vitamin C - is a natural laxative... so yeah Tan, Kiwi fruit is vert high in vitamin c

This works a treat for my little poo bear - he went from 1 or 2 hard poos a week... to now... 3 or 4 big loose ones a day (oh the joy!)

We were also recomended a product called Actilax from the chemist (you have to ask for it) and to give 3 mls when badly constipated.

Also - I reckon cruskits would be fine. I cant see why they would be too bad?? They perhaps are processed quite a bit and don't tend to move any blockages through the bowel as they would sort of just slip through - where as the likes of weetbix etc are a whole grain and act like a bit of a pipe cleaner??!! I can't seem to get a conclusive result as to wether Weetbix/farex cause constipation or aid the poohing.

Initially i was told weetbix will bind them, farex won't then vice a versa. Elly has always had a fair bit of problem poohing. Small amounts with a fair bit oof strain.
She has at least one kiwi fruit a day along with peaches and pears. Have pulled back on the banana. Perhaps it's just the formula??:banghead: .

With the talk about cruskits it made me think about the rice cake things she LOVES. The sundried tommy ones are her favourite. Would this be a cause?

Penny: I think your MCHM was being on the really cautious side earlier on. Obviously K is progressing well. Elly still only sits, never rolled and only the past few days is she getting over and stretching out with both hands on the floor. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact she can now clap:confused: .

Busy day here, go away tomorrow and SO much to do. Anyone want two dogs, 5 chooks, a budgie, a garden and a vegie pacth to look after for 10 days?

Catch up later.

Ok so the things that have workd for me in the cr@p department are:
Kiwi Fruit
Orange in the mesh feeder
Coloxyl Drops
Peaches
Pears
Prunes/Juice

Things that haven't helped are:
Weetbix
Banana's
Farex (not including the fruit flavoured ones)

Marianne- are you still using the Heinz follow on? If you are, Cody used to get terrbly constipated on that so i reverted back to the newborn formula and it fixed it self. The reason being, ther Step 1 is a Whey based and the Step 2 is Casein based. Alot of Casein based formula's will constipate babies- its harder to digest. So maybe try going back to the birth one and see how you go?:hugs:

Lauren - For Reece's brekky I alternate between mashed up banana, a tin of baked beans, and yoghurt. I also make porridge for him. I use our normal porridge (eg Uncle Tobys) and mix it with formula. I stir in half a tin of pureed fruit and then warm it... he loves it!

ziggy29
13-11-2007, 17:07
Lauren - just a question - before he hit this stage of standing in the cot was he getting himself off to sleep?

If he was - can you just leave him to eventually lie/fall down himself? Maybe if he gets it out of his system he will settle himself down.

Other than that - have you tried masking tape? LOL

LMenz
13-11-2007, 17:21
Yes he was self settling beautifully. He's just dropped off now after 25 minutes of howling. He sits up and I'm not sure he knows how to lay back down.

I've been going in at the different intervals and holding him down - he's been sleeping on his tummy since he realised he can move around

I'm worried it's going to wreck all my hard work with the self settling. Maybe he needs time to get used to it?

I don't have any masking tape but I'm sure we have some rope in the shed

Liam has been sitting up and playing with stuffed toys in his cot. Probably not the same thing, but I've just been leaving him if he isn't screaming his head off. He seemed to fall asleep mid-play the other day... all hunched over a stuffed giraffe. I decided to move him as I thought he'd wake up all stiff and sore.

Tricky one. Hope you find a solution, or that Jack figures it out himself.

Lauren - once again, we are also going through the same thing.

If Kaelan doesn't settle.. (which he has been doing a bit lately - sitting/standing in the cot and screaming his lungs out).. I just leave him to his own devices for quite some time. I refuse to go running back to him (which is what he wants) to try to settle him over and over because if I were to do that, he's now at the age where he would learn that misbehaving means mummy comes in... and I'm not going to reward him for bad behaviour. It's probably a bit of a tough love attitude, but I think that in the long run he'll be better off for it.

If it is pretty obvious that he is NOT going to settle at all (say after 30 solid minutes), then I get him up and tire him out. I'll then offer him another bottle... and usually after that it is enough to get him to sleep (if not, then we repeat the process). All I can say, is that I hope they grow out of this stage soon :D

Like Jack, Kaelan has also taken to sleeping on his tummy since he's discovered he can move around. Personally, I find this harder to deal with, because I feel like my nine months of strict SIDS precautions have been for nothing. I don't rest easy knowing that he is asleep on his tummy... but what can I do? As soon as I turn him onto his back.. he'll just roll back over again. It's just something I'm going to have to (reluctantly) get used to

My god this is so Liam at the moment :banghead: . DH is home this week and we have both been taking turns trying to settle him for all of his sleeps..........basically he will fight it for at least one hour.....crawling up his cot, standing up, giggling one minute, crying the next, especially once we leave the room he will scream then when one of us goes back in he acts all relieved and smiles........this will go on for as long as we let him, the little bugger. He will be so tired he will fall over in his cot while trying to stand up but he's determined to NOT SLEEP! Today we got two half hour sleeps out of him and one was me walking him in the pram so I got bugger all done :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

SO glad most of you are going through the same thing........well at least I'm not the only one. It's getting worse so it must be the age. I've ordered a book from the Library "sleep right, sleep tight". I hope it helps give some tips on settling because this is driving me bonkers.

Well, it seems that we're having one of 'those' nights tonight. Kaelan is being a stubborn little bugger and not going to sleep. We've already been through the play/feed/sleep routine a few times... and he is still screaming now. Doing my best to ignore it :hair:

Just a little vent (and feel free to ignore)... but I'm sick of being a 'single parent'. DF is at work from 1:30pm to 12:30am so he is gone most of the day and misses out on all the work of having a baby. He only sees Kaelan for a couple of hours at the most (in the mornings when K is happy) but even then, he is often in the study on the computer while K is out in the loungeroom with me. The only time that I truly get to have a break from K is when I have a shower in the morning.

Because Kaelan has been so unsettled in the evenings, I have not had a proper evening meal in over a week. I have been living on cereal and toast... and that is usually at about 10pm at night when K is asleep (but not tonight).

I wish to God that DF would go onto bloody day shift so that I could get some help with Kaelan when I need it (ie the evenings)... even just so I can have 20-30 minutes to cook a proper meal. We don't even have any family in Melbourne to help out... and none of our friends live near us... so I'm kinda doing this by myself (and really feeling tonight, believe me :gloomy: )

Anyways... vent over.

I'm seriously going to lose the plot soon if this baby doesn't go to sleep :banghead:

Thanks guys... I just needed to get that off my chest because Kaelans screams were getting louder and louder.. and my blood pressure was going higher and higher...

K seems to be quiet for now... however I just had a peek and he is curled up in the corner of the cot... almost sitting up, sleeping. He looks so sad. Now I feel a bit bad...

Anyways... DF told me on the phone tonight that he has a job interview next week. I think if he decides to take the job, he'll be able to work day shift... so I honestly hope he gets it.

I keep thinking about what would happen in five to six years when Kaelan is at school. If DF was still working his current hours, then K would only see his dad on the weekends. That does NOT sit well with me at all. I want us to have an evening family meal together... where we can talk about our day and share stories about what we've done and what we've learnt etc... I know that this probably sounds like something out of Little House on the Prairie... but quality family time is something that is very important to me. I don't want K growing up without having his dad around.

HAving a DH who is not very helpful away for work or maintaing a social life pre baby makes life difficult.

What i can tell you though is that my Dh's work never has a regular finish time, he works nearly 7 days a week, he is regularly away we have no family and few friends here and the closest are 7 hours away.
I have a constant feeling of single motherness but what i try and do is remember that he WILL be home, the girls WILL see their Dad, i WILL see my husband and we WILL get a chance to spend time together.

I have my whinge and cry but in the end i just have to get on with it.

If anything i hope this helps shed some light that we understand the scenarios that we all face everyday.

Penny, I read a fantastic quote in an interview with Eric Bana.
He basically said that he and his wife sit down every six months and map out what they expect it will hold. Beyond that he can't know where work will take him, where the kids will be in school. He figured why stress about five years time when none of it may actually happen. Just something i have been thinking about lately.

We are bound to have several moves over the next 5 years, i'm sick of it, i'd love to at least be in the same place for a long time. However if life is going to contiune to improve for us as a family and to one day have all that we desire that is a bridge I will contiune to try get over.

What suxs is when you are being tested you can't get past it.

Well my best friend had her first baby yesterday. A girl. Was fantastic to talk on the phone and hear the joy in her voice. I told her you will really understand what the rest of us have been going about now.

Awwww how sweet! What did she call her??? C'mon splii the stats- i wanna know!

Eloise has taken to waking at 2 am every other morning and standing in her cot wanting to play. If I lay her down she gets straight back up again. If I leave the room she screams and gets stuck standing, if I stay she laughs and plays Hello insanity
Sorry Hannah but your last comment had me in stitches! It is frustrating though isn't it.

I I refuse to go running back to him (which is what he wants) to try to settle him over and over because if I were to do that, he's now at the age where he would learn that misbehaving means mummy comes in... and I'm not going to reward him for bad behaviour. It's probably a bit of a tough love attitude, but I think that in the long run he'll be better off for it.

Maybe he isnt tired when he goes to bed firstly. You might need a routine change from now and try to give him naps that are longer apart. I know this will sound silly but i just dont think that a 9mth old baby really knows how to 'misbehave' so perhaps try putting him to bed a bit later in the afternoon or waking him earlier so that by the time its bed time at night he's tired?

Well, it seems that we're having one of 'those' nights tonight. Kaelan is being a stubborn little bugger and

We don't even have any family in Melbourne to help out... and none of our friends live near us... so I'm kinda doing this by myself (and really feeling tonight, believe me )

Anyways... vent over.

I know what you mean here- my dh is a shift worker too and i work as well so time management is a must here. 4-6.30pm is hell here, trying to feed, bath and organise 4 kids. Its just unpleasant but i try to make it fun- it just requires alot of eye rolling on my behalf LOL.
On the kids missing out- well mine dont i dont think- yep, he's gone most days for 13-14 hrs but we make sure that the family time we do have is quality. Not so much quantity.
I actually prefer when he is on nights as he sees them in the morning before he goes to bed.
I would be dragging your DH's *** off the computer when he gets home- thats not fair on K for you.

I have my whinge and cry but in the end i just have to get on with it.

Yep nothing wrong with that!

If anything, I have the opposite problem. I'm sure all of the Melbourne mums could probably testify that Kaelan never sleeps !! :D

If we're at home... I'm lucky if Kaelan gets one nap in a day (usually in the morning when DF is home of course !!). Sometimes he'll have a 40 minute sleep in the afternoon... but not as often as I'd like.

At night, I always wait until he shows definate tired signs before putting him to bed (we've learnt from trying too early in the past.. just doesn't work)... and he has actually been asleep several times tonight, but keeps waking up maybe one or two times an hour. I know he is absolutely exhausted though, because his eyes are almost rolling in his head when he is crying.

We've mainly had problems since he discovered that he could crawl about the cot (daylights savings has not helped either). Where once he would lay in the cot and go back to sleep fairly quickly if he woke up... now he stands up, tries to climb the cot side, sits up etc when he wakes and will just keep screaming and screaming and screaming.

I'm not sure if his teeth are a contributing factor. The other thing I've considered is that because the weather is warming up, we're kinda stuck half way between the winter and summer sleeping bags. Tonight he has his summer sleeping bag on, because I think his winter grobag would be too hot for the night. Now I'm not sure if maybe he is a little cold. I need to buy an intermediate warmth sleeping bag to bridge the gap.

Now that it has cooled down somewhat overnight... if he wakes again, I might put on his warmer grobag, plus give him some panadol and bonjela... I think that should just about cover everything :)

HAving a DH who is not very helpful away for work or maintaing a social life pre baby makes life difficult.

He could be cold. We sleep with our heating on low to keep the house at a regular temp.

As for DH not being around. Mine works 6 days out of 7 and is rarely home before 7.30pm.

Once I pick up Jake from kinder then the fun really starts. Usually Ben and Matthew are grumpy because I've had to wake them from their sleep (usually in the car) to go get Jake from his class, then they don't fall asleep on the way home and then they want to eat and drink their milk.

DH travels a fair bit. Although it is hard for you, there is light at the end of tunnel. Think about how difficult it is for those with little or no support who have young kids or multiples, because their workload is double or triple.

Men just don't understand and I don't think they ever will.

Anyhow, I'm off to bed and I'll speak to you guys tommorrow.

Penny- It honestly sounds to me like you need a routine change. He may have 'outgrown' your previous one.
Maybe you could try changing it over a few days (3-5 is usually all it takes) but it pretty much does require you to be at home for the entire time to give him a chance to get used to it. Good Luck with what ever you do.

Sorry Hannah but your last comment had me in stitches! It is frustrating though isn't it.?

It is, but I know it will pass! She was actually much better last night - didn't wake til 5 am and then she settled back to sleep until 6.30, gotta be happy with that :)

Penny - sorry to hear you're doing it tough at the moment. Just a thought (and obviously I'm no expert) but maybe K is overtired and needs more of a nap during the day? I only say this because Eloise sleeps much better if she's had her 2 good day naps. Hope things settle for you soon.

Marianne - hope you have a good holiday - I think you said you are going in the next few days.

Jo - I've got that book, you can borrow mine. I've never used it - it's basically controlled comforting, you know - leave for 2 mins, then 4 mins and so on. We're lucky as Eloise is usually easy to settle, it's just these occasional night wake ups.

Well, I'm very lucky to have a DH who is a teacher and therefore home nice and early as well as an easy-going baby who is usually asleep by 7.00pm. It makes up for not having any family or close friends nearby. Be fun to go and turn our nice routine on its head when we fly home in 5 weeks :D

Ok I'm trying again - hope this computer doesn't crash on me...

I wanted to say a big "hang in there" to all of you who are having the trubles of standing, screaming, waking or not sleeping bubbas. I can totally undertand the frustration and how it totally takes it toll on you mentally and phyisically. while Connor luckily isn't able to do this (he IS strapped to the bed - I will post a pic later on) I have had to live with him with his screaming and waking from reflux and I know there have been sometimes whn i have totally lost it at DH or my dogs or anyone who might happen to be calling the house at that moment (my dear old dad - sorry dad!)etc

Men and babies.... somehow I think we are not the first lot of women to go through these troubles. I seem to recall quite a few issues involving these darn babies and men :D:laughing:

Penny - I am amazed that K can stand in his grobag - he must be one determined little bloke! Connor is still in his winter grobag, I just put him in a Tshirt and nappy and he has been ok so far.

On the subjects of Men... DH has it tough. Self employed and he is the Managing Director - the buck stops with him. He is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. His PDA and laptop are always with him wherever we are (even on our honeymoon he had to work - that sucked) It seems as though we all have some good fellas who work hard for their families. I grew up with my dad woking shift work and barely ever saw him and he did (and still does) hard physical labour and so was always so tired when i did see him... I dont think it effected me so much, so i know that if my child misses out on things with daddy he will still be ok - but I really wish that Dh got to spend more time with his son and see how wonderful the little one is - I feel sad that he misses a lot of the really cool stuff that Connor does.

ooohhh I am so deep today... must have another coffee and get back to normal Jen I think!!

Wishing you all a lovely day today. Its my mums birthday so we are off to lunch - surprise... so I know it will amke mums day to see us.

:hugs: Penny I hope your night gets better.

I really rely on DH to help out in the evenings, so it must be hard trying to deal with everything by yourself.
DH has been asked by his work if he wants to go over to Perth for a week to help out (all expenses paid). You can imagine what my response was :)

I rely on DH a lot too. He gets really sick of it because pretty much the moment he walks in the door I'm getting him to do something

Penny - I was talking to the Tweedle sleep school about Liam not sleeping much during the day & their response was babies can get used to cat napping and to try and settle them for a longer sleep or re-settle them if they wake earlier than an hour. Basically this doesn't work with Liam. If he wakes up after 30 minutes I can very rarely get him back to sleep. They said that babies this age should still be having 2 naps a day of at least an hour each. Liam is much happier if he does this but it doesn't happen every day at all unfortunately. I hope your DF gets that day shift job.

Hannah - I will pick up the book from the library today and if it's really good then I might borrow yours once I've returned this one. Thanks a lot for offering yours :)

Squiggles - I can relate to the unsettled thing with Liam also having reflux. He's grown out of it a bit but when he gets sick after solids sometimes, he can be quite unsettled, especially now we are off the zantac.

Better go. Liam's grissling and wanting attention

Haleyq -are you out there?

My-Lot - are you out there?

mummybunny -hope the trip to ballarat was good

ren - hope the move went through smoothly in the end

I think i will put my 2 cents in about the settling to sleep. Lily was rolling and wriggling about her cot for a couple of weeks there and i assumed she wasnt tired so i kept her up longer and longer. Now i realise i was keeping her up too long and her tiredness window seems to be about 5 minutes and if i miss it - i pay big time.

Lily has 2 sleep a day which usually total 2-3 hours.
Yesterday we missed the sleep window so instead of her nap at about 2 she didnt go down till 4 and then of course wanted to stay up late. Then she got up early this morning - but feel asleep on the boob and the whole family stayed in bed to 8pm. so the routine is a bit out now but hopefully she is old enough to cope with this.

Some really good news - DH got a job!! and he has negotiated a 9 day fortnight!! :smiliedance:
and got a really good wage :yelclap:
So i am going to go shopping and see if we can get away for a couple of days.

got any ideas of somewhere to go that wont be overrun with schoolies?

Went shopping today and bought some new jeans and a few tops. Good on you Juzzy!!! It feels so great to shop for yourself... l have done it once in the last 18 months... bought some clothes for work... when l thought l might be going back part time...

...got right into this whole new way of life (living in the country) but after 4 years of having to drive 50ish kms to the nearest supermarket, 10kms to check my mail, having no rubbish collection, filthy dirt roads with massive potholes ..... don't know how you did it Kim - and BTW you're not boring at all!! Yeah for Riley sleeping through too!

Jo - I think most of us have had sick babies at least once whilst they have been teething - not sure why but teething seems to lower their immune system a bit... hope Liam is feeling better.

Lauren - did you end up dropping the cot??? How are you going with your back... mine is killing me at the moment (picture me sitting at this computer right now with a hot wheat bag against my lower spine.... ahhhh relief). Have you tried Polenta or Semonlina for breakfast?

Penny - cute photo of Kaelan standing... looks like you have the same cot as me - we dropped ours down a couple of weeks ago after we found Coen standing in it... gave me a hell of a fright!
:hugs: Sounds like you are having a really tough time of it at the moment... I don't know what l would do if Darrin consistently wasn't around to help... he gets home at 6 pm at the latest most nights and l am usually really hanging for it... a bit less so now... I am happy to cook, do dishes - anything but be sole carer for Coen... so when DH is home he become primary carer and l do everything else that needs doing - it works well - gives me a break... and they get to spend time together... its hard listening to them playing sometimes when l am up to my armpits in dishes... but then l think how he has been at work all day - and l got all the giggles earlier in the day... and I need a break from my bubba sometimes... I always enjoy Coen so much more when l go back into him...

Jen - what a clever boy you have -- very cute video!

I had a bit of catching up to do... I have been MIA - busy, had some pretty severe neck and back problems so sitting at the computer just wasn't a goer either... missed you all though - thanks for thinking of me Sharon - l must have felt the love and got drawn to my computer...

Pen - we are putting Coen in a summer sleeping bag, with a long sleeved onsie (that has no legs)... we also leave the heater on 16 just in case the temp drops... and if it looks like its a bit colder we will put him a onsie with legs (you know the bonds type) ... colder still and we will add blankets... does that make any sense???

Some really good news - DH got a job!! that is great news sharon... perhaps l need him to negotiate for me???:smiliedance:

Penny - just be careful about making the "hold em down thingamy". Not sure about the SIDs risk but i have heard nightmare accidental suffocation stories about babies who have managed to roll in their anti roll devices and have then been stuck face down and are unable to get over again. Could be just an urban legend though.

That being said connor looks so happy in his and was sleeping just beautifully!

Just another one of those things you have to weigh up and make the decision that is best for you and your own family.

The one that we are using is recommended by the SIDS and Kids org... so all safe in this household - and he sleeps in a grobag so he is super dooper safe.

Coen is eating really well, he sleeps through the night consistently (last night was 7-8):yelclap:, crawling like there is no tomorrow and standing up against anything that can (and some that can't) hold his wait.

Like many of you are finding now, we also had the dilemma of a bub who wanted to play in his cot, it started with the rolling (which drove me batty until l came to terms with it), moved to the crawling (which was pretty painless) and most recently it has been the standing in the cot... l was going to say that the standing hasn't been too painful... how quickly we forget... he did it once and then waited a week before he did it again, after that second time he did it consistently... and with that first sleep he would stand up start screaming (cos l think he didn't know how to get down) l would go back in and put him down... we must have gone in there at least 8 times, the next sleep it was less than half as many... now for each sleep he will stand up just once... and yesterday l caught him sitting down from a stand in his cot... so now l know he can do it (and he doesn't scream anymore).... I think it is his thing to stand up just once to get me to go back in... and whilst l now know he doesn't need me to put him down... I really don't mind going back in there giving him another kiss and putting him down...

These bubs though... just when you think you are getting ahead and everything changes... talking about changes... changing Coen's nappy is a bl00dy nightmare these days... l know some of you feel my pain...

Or quadruple? It is tough going isn't it! Mine is the same here and it feels like im always waking one or two kids up to go pick one or two up from somewhere. Its no fun, especially around dinner time when it seems it all falls apart hehehehe.

I don't think it was ever together to start with LOL. Yeah it is hard, someone who understands. How do you do it? When do the younger ones sleep and how do you stay sane?

How do i stay sane? I dont know- it helps i think that i just 'get on with it'. I dont think about it much- its just what the day entails so i just do it. I haven't ever known any different- its pretty much always been like this so thats life for me. Sure sometimes i get the cranks with itbut- well, me having a moan wont help it- i just have to get on with it. Does that make sense?
Hope that didnt sound condescending- its just how it is for me..

My younger ones go to bed at around 12.30 so they at least get a decent sleep before being woken up but we have had many an afternoon when i have carried three kids into school- all still sleeping LOL- now there's a mission.

We stopped about a month ago. I didn't do it one night and he slept thru so we went from there. If he wakes in the night now I will give him a quick fed and he goes back off to sleep - he's sleeping thru more than not though.

Sharon (ziggy29) had some great tips on dropping the dreamfeed. She might be able to help.

Lauren, that sucks about the house. Any other inspections lined up?

Not for 2 more weeks :hair: There isn't much around and pretty fierce competition for houses...AHHHH!!

Great Pics Sandy...:)

I think its still wednesday? isnt it?

With the dreamfeed the plan was to bring it 30 mins earlier every 5 nights. then decrease the amount by 20ml a night until you are down to 20ml - then stop. if wake up at night again bring it back in at the last step you got too.

I am still doing the dreamfeed - most nights - mainly to keep up my supply and it is the only time i am guaranteed that lily will take milk.

Tonight during the dreamfeed our cat was meowing at the nursery window - lily woke up looked at me and signed cat!! So now i know that she not only knows what the cat is but knows that a cat says meow!!i am amazed.

night all - so tired:sleeping:

We have three strollers (one for each car and one for walking around the neighbourhood).... anyways, tonight I decided to take K for a walk in the stroller and whilst I was getting things organised to go out, I noticed that there was a little pocket on the back of the pram that I totally forgot about (meant to hold things like purse, mobile etc). I opened up the pocket and there was this little Pampers disposable that we had bought when we were in the UK over Easter... and it was so tiny !! (K was nine weeks old when we flew to England).... it's obviously been a LONG time since I've used that pocket !! :D

I could not get over how small the nappy was (it is probably equivilent to a Huggies 'Infant' size sposie I guess)... and it made me realise just how small Kaelan once was. At the time we were using the Pampers, I remember thinking how big they were on K... wow !!

Where has my little baby gone??

Sharon - We stopped the dream feed at least a month ago. Basically once Liam was having 3 solids meals per day. Basically we just didn't wake him for the 10:30pm feed. The first few times he woke at 1am so we went back to doing it, then we dropped it again and he slept through. Now he will only wake if he hasn't had enough to eat during the day or for other reasons

Rooppee - Liam weighed 9.9kg at his last weigh in at his 8 month check. Heavy boy!

Penny - how cute are those newborn nappies........whenever I look back at photos of Liam as a newborn I think how cute he was and especially how nice that he slept so much during the day

Sandy - nappy changes are such a drama these days we have to do it on the floor as Liam stands up on the change table and tries to jump off.......of course on the floor he flips over and rolls off and crawls off........gets really cranky when I put him back on and fights me when trying to change his nappy. All this week I've had DH help with each nappy change so hell knows what will happen next week when he's back at work! I hope you get some relief from your sore neck/back.

Lauren - I've heard rentals are hard to find (well good ones) so :fingerscrossed: you find something soon.

Anyone introduced tomatoes yet to bubs? Hels - Baked beans have tomato sauce in them so did you just introduce the baked beans and not worry about having introduced tomatoes?

Tried Liam on a cheese sauce yesterday. It seems like he has a small vomit after anything new these days so I guess it's not a genuine reaction. He's had a mild nappy rash on his bum.......I'm thinking it started from not rinsing him straight away after swimming. We usually do but because the clorine levels are so low thought we could get away with it but I don't think we should have :shame:

Inlaws around for lunch today to discuss with them childcare arrangements. I've accepted a place one day per week at a centre that's run by the Council. They provide very little but the kids seemed happy.........unfortunately every centre has said that in the first year babies get sick (colds, flu & maybe gastro) and some even get head lice  :fingerscrossed: Liam doesn't get anything.

Anyone who has other kids and used childcare, did your kids get sick a lot???

changing Coen's nappy is a bl00dy nightmare these days... l know some of you feel my pain...

Jack has been like this ever since he could commando crawl so about 2 months :hair:

This week has been a bit better. I gave him a rattle with about 10 bells on it to play with. He loves it! He only has it when it's nappy time and if I'm quick I can get him changed before he gets too bored with it.

Failing that I pin him down on the floor with my legs around him so he can't roll over and escape.

Jack seems to have a toe/foot fetish  He's obsessed with eating my toes?? Weird!

Hello everyone.

Have been a bit down lately and haven't felt like chatting. Not sure what's going on. Probably hormones.

I've got my job back without an interview, which was a relief. Have an interview for a different position on Friday... am hoping I can snap out of my down-ness today and be on top of my game tomorrow.

I hate changing nappies lately. Major battle every time. I usually put Liam in a short-sleeve onesie that buttons under the crotch. Am hoping that is deterring him from figuring out how velcro works. Am dreading the day he figures out how to take off his nappy.

well im back home!!!
we had a great time, ill upload pics later, boy oh boy what a long drive... Riley was great in the car, only winged the last 20 mins there and the last 15 mins home...
we found a great house too... but we are thinking of buying and renting it out... which will give us plenty of time to get my mum and dad a house so they can move down too...
while we were there i converted our friend to be a bub hub freak hehe very proud of myself...
hubby on the other hand annoyed me so much he was more then happy to help out everyone else but not me .. Poor little Riley didn't get much of a crawl around as we were so busy and the house we stayed in had stairs... but we worked out why he wasn't sleeping, he got his 8th tooth  which is pretty cool..
we didn't make it into Melbourne, which was a shame but we will be back down that way in a few months if not earlier and ill try make it to a meet!!
so how has everyone been?? ive missed so much... did you guys miss me or not even notice i was gone??

ill come back later with pics i have to clean my mess while my mum has Riley!!

have a lovely day all..

Congrats on getting your job back and good luck for tomorrow. Maybe the interview will help lift your spirits?

Kim - Glad you found a nice house and enjoyed your trip to Vic.

Us - R has been a bit grissly over the last couple of days. He has a really runny nose and keeps waking in the night. He also has signs of his forst 2 bottom teeth coming through, so I'm not sure if that is what the problem is or a cold.
I gave him some panadol this morning and he seems a bit more settled.

Similar to what everyone else has said... we just stopped them one day and he didn't wake up for it... if l think he hasn't had enough food/milk in a day - for example, if he falls asleep during his last feed l will give him one... but it is very rare these days.

Just a quick q

Cody is 8.7 kilos so far Ranges from 6.47 (for one of our premmie bubs) to 10.5 for one of our taller bubs (all 8 month stats)

Tried Liam on a cheese sauce yesterday. It seems like he has a small vomit after anything new these days so I guess it's not a genuine reaction. We usually do but because the clorine levels are so low thought we could get away with it but I don't think we should have :shame: I tried Coen on cheese sauce for the first time yesterday too Jo!!! He had a bit of diarrhea today... I will give him some more today and see how he goes.... Oh and thanks for sharing the story about the nappy rash... We took Coen swimming today and l was just wondering if l might give him a rinse off when we get home (instead of at the pool) - but you've changed my mind... l think l will continue to do it at the pool.

Mon - you've had a few bad weeks Mon - some sleepless nights, uncertainty about your job etc. - try and take it easy if you can and you know where we are if you ever need a break / adult company (that goes for everyone here.... might be a bit far for the Brissy gals though)
Best of luck for the interview tomorrow - be sure to wear something you feel fabulous in and remember what a bargain they will be getting - you have had experience in most of the areas they are interviewing for - and what you lack in experience you more than make up for in enthusiasm - not to mention you're a great people person... not everyone has that skill!!! (in fact most don't). What l am trying to say is you are unique and perfectly suited to this job - I'm absolutely positive you can do it better than anyone else there! :fingerscrossed:

Us - One of Coen's top teeth is through, and the other is following close behind.
Darrin worked from home today (he's never done that before - but l asked him to yesterday cos my back just wasn't up to carting Coen around all day)... its been a real blessing!

Geez Lauren - you and I really ARE living the same life :D

We also went shopping today and K was pretty well behaved. It felt SO good just to get out of the house for awhile. I spent way too much money as usual... but I think we all need a bit of retail therapy sometimes. DF asked tonight on the phone if I bought him anything... I told him that I bought a couple of new bras... so the fact that the 'girls' will be sitting that little bit higher is a present unto itself really

I'm actually feeling really quite clever right now. Kaelan has developed an unhealthy obsession with remote controls (must take after his father in that respect)... and he keeps constantly pulling them off the coffee table. Well today, I found a kiddies 'remote control' in KMart.. and each button has a Sesame Street character on it.. and it makes various noises (including my beloved Elmo of course). So I bought it and when we got home, I put it on the coffee table. It didn't take K too long to find it and he loved it !! Finally a remote control that he can play with, press the buttons, bang on the floor etc and mummy won't take it away from him.

And in other good news... we just got word about half an hour ago that our Unit has been sold.. and we got a little more than we thought, so we're pretty happy with that. Now we have to make the decision as to whether we stay here and pay down the mortgage... or build another house (with a bath !!!) and sell our current house as well.

Mon - Good luck with your interview tomorrow !!

Welcome home Kim !! Curious... why the move from Canberra to Ballarat anyway??

Ok, so K is in bed... hopefully asleep for the night :fingerscrossed: (although he has drank very little formula today, despite it being regularly offered)... so I might actually be able to cook myself some dinner... I'm thinking something simple like spaghetti bolognaise... might even make a little for K to try out tomorrow night (we're getting very adventurous with his meals since our dietitian appointment).

Ah.. it's so nice to be back in a happy place again... hopefully it will last :)

we chose Ballarat, because we have friends there, and its a whole heck of a lot cheaper, we can get the place we are looking at, 4 bedrooms, study 2 living areas, huge kitchen and dinning areas and 3 car garage space, with landscaped gardens and a huge back yard, with a sandpit and tool shed out the back for $315,000, here in Canberra that would cost us well over the $600,000 mark!!

Ballarat is a lovely old town... but I warn you now, it is very cold in winter there. When I was a nursing student (I did my degree in nearby Bendigo), I did a lot of clinical placements in Maryborough (about 40 minutes from Ballarat)... anyways... I was always so cold... getting up at 6am for an early shift was bloody awful. Brrrrr !!:snow:

But on the upside, Ballarat has got some great clubs and pubs... and in my eyes, that's the most important thing ;)

And $315,000 is a great price !!!

Shazza, I put most of their food on their tray these days, unless, it's yoghurt or puree or I'm out. They feed themselves. I cut up the spaghetti so that's it's not as long as we would have it and they make a mess but love it. 2-minute noodles works well too.
Jojo, I haven't really been too worried about allergies, just like Hels, the only ones I'm careful of are eggs(which we've started) and nuts.

Sandy - Feeling much better today, thanks. Not sure what it was all about. (Definitely NOT pregnant! I know you guys were thinking it.) No problems with tomatoes, onion or garlic here. I started Liam on all of those things quite early, as most of our meals contain at least one of them. If you are really worried, maybe you could try him on a bit of tomato soup made half half with water and milk (or EBM/formula). Would probably be easier to digest. Just a thought ... no idea if it is a good one!

Lauren - Gotta love a shopping spree. I'll have to buy some stuff soon to wear at work... don't fit into my old stuff really. Work atmosphere is pretty casual, so I'll be able to buy some nice things I think. DFO, here I come!

Sharon (Ziggy) - Interesting about the signing. Liam is definitely recognising words and responding with actions. For example, he will wave if you say good bye. Give kisses if you say kiss. If you say 'how big are you?' he'll hold his arms wide in the air. Very cute!

Sharon - After you mentioned it a while ago I tried Liam on baked beans. He seemed to really enjoy them. Not sure if they caused more farts or not... he is a very farty boy anyway! My brother calls him The Thunder Down Under. Might try some spag bol soon. Doing eggs over the weekend I think. He has had some yolk of a hard boiled egg, and was fine, so I'm not too worried.

Kim - Welcome back! Wow, I can't believe that Riley is close to walking. Will he be the first one? Liam has just started standing up against the couch and coffee table with more confidence. Still freaks me out. Hasn't started doing it in the cot though. He knows how to sit back down though, so hopefully it won't be a major issue like some people are having.

Penny - Glad to hear that the girls are uplifted. Tee hee hee hee. Hope you are feeling a bit more uplifted yourself. I'm lucky that I have such a supportive network of family and friends. Must be hard by yourself regardless of whether you have one or ten kids, especially when you are also working nightshifts. You know where to find me if you need a chat. Congrats on the unit sale too.

Me Me Me - Job interview was very different. Was just one guy interviewing, who used to be my manager and is also a friend. We spent 35 minutes chatting like it was a coffee break, and 5 minutes was the actual interview. He only asked two questions. Why do you want this position? How do you think this position benefits the company? Easy peasy questions. I guess it is just a formality and they have already decided who'll be in the roles already. I'd love to be one of them, but I'll still be happy to go back to my regular job.

Also found out that the company had around 230 staff before the take-over, and with heaps of people resigning and being made redundant since then, 100 people have gone so far. That's a huge number. Much bigger than I anticipated.

Liam still has no teeth, although every now and then he will scream for ages for no apparent reason. Doesn't usually do that.

That's it from me for a while. I haven't missed personals for anyone on purpose, just caught up on a few recent things. Hi to anyone and everyone else!

Sorry if this is a bit all over the place. I think that's how my brain is working tonight.

Quick ? - does the toy remote stop him from going for the other remotes??? I was tossing up doing the same thing - but l was worried it might encourage him???

CONGRATULATIONS on the sale!!!

Mon - soooooo? how do you feel?

To all doing tomatoes -- no problems??? I have held off giving him any tomatoes as yet cos of the acidity... but would love to... I have also held off on the onion & garlic cos of the potential problem with digestion... but now that he is 8 months l'm happy to introduce them... l think... still a little dicey on the tomatoes...

I've done onion and garlic pretty much from day 1 and no problems here.

That sucks Sharon. Is he away for the weekend?

No just tonight. He is meant to be back tommorrow afternoon. He owes me big time.

Mon, how did it go today?
Hels, how are you feeling? When is your BT?

Hey guys,

Not much been happening here. Sorry i havent posted, been a bit down in the dumps for the last week and i am still trying to figure out what the problem is.

Cassidy has turned into a real little horror. Wont let me out of her sight. It is really tiring.

She insists on standing up/pulling herself up against everything now and has started rolling over in her cot as a means to not go to sleep. Dont know how to combat that one at this stage. But it is strange to walk into her room in the morning and see her peering at me over the end of the cot.

Cassi standing (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p46/juzz01/P1010416.jpg)

Cassi has also been refusing to breast feed, i am still persisting with it and offering as much as i can but after 10-20 seconds she pulls off and screams until i sit her up right.

She has really given my confidence a beating this week.

DP and i havent been on the best terms the last few days. I think it is because he has been working from home and really getting under my feet.

Did some shopping today which was nice. Bought a nice chrismassy dress for Cassidy. Click here (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p46/juzz01/P1010418.jpg). I am planning on using it without the little short things. I just need to find a nice Christmas nappy or cover to use under it.

I also bought These (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p46/juzz01/P1010417.jpg). I thought they were pretty funny

Not much planned for the weekend. Just going to do a few things around home i guess.

Ohh there's one near my house!! I can feel a shopping trip coming on :D Glad the interview went well. When do you find out?

I also bought These (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p46/juzz01/P1010417.jpg). I thought they were pretty funny

 I LOVE the ipood one! They never had that where I went... I got "Humprey's a man in a suit" and "I pulled an all nighter"

That sucks about the breastfeeding Juzz. Have you tried the ABA? Jack's been very similar. It's heartbreaking really. He is particularly bad when he has a tooth coming in. Maybe try panadol 1/2 hour before or some bonjella to see if that helps

Whatever happens just remember that you have done a super dooper job making it to 9 months.
It's such an achievement :yelclap: Well done!

Hels - When are you testing? :babydust2:

US - Jack's only just fallen asleep after fluffing around in his cot for an hour and 15 minutes  He grizzled a bit but mostly hit his head and bounced on the mattress. No idea what's up as he was showing tired signs before I put him down.

Anyway when he wakes were off to the local fete! I want some fairy floss!

Have a great day everyone!

Juz- cute tops, are they cotton on kids ones?? Juz - Maybe the blah feeling kicks in for a while at 9 months... seems to be quite a few people that have 'caught' it. There are a lot of additional challenges at this stage. Maybe instead of the baby blues, these are the baby purples?

It is hot here too, and going to be worse this week too. We haven't got any blinds up in our new loungeroom and the sun streams in one side in the morning, and the other side in the afternoon. Might pop down to the op shop and buy some old doona covers or something to hang up for this week at least. I feel like I am living in my own glasshouse.

Should find out about the job late this week. He said it could take longer, but if that was the case he'd let me know as well.

Very excited at the moment. Managed to pick up an overlocker at a garage sale this morning for $20! It's old, but I was assured that all the parts and accessories are there and that it is working. Plus, they said I can always go back if I've got problems with it and they'll show me how to use it. How nice!

Better go and fold the mountains of clean washing that are taking over my house. At least it is clean... that's something.

Hels - Bugger... Let's hope next time it's a :bfp:

Mon - OMG it's freakin hot in SA too. yesterday it was something ridiculous like 42 degrees and apparently it's going to stay hot all next week :banghead:

Juz - good to see you back, as Mon said there are a few who are having a bit of a yuck time at the moment too. Hope you are feeling better now too.

US- Well we have had an eventful 2 days. Yesterday DH and I drove into the city to drop off his car which he has traded on a new car - so for a few weeks we just have mine and then we take delivery of our new one the day after we move in to our new house. We stopped at a pub (that I used to work at when I was 18) and had lunch and a beer or two and it was lovely to be out and about and Connor was pretty well behaved. Today we drove down to the river (Murray River - about 30 mins away) and again went to a pub for lunch and then sat down on the riverbank outside the pub and showed connor the ducks - it was nice until a boatload of p!ssed idiots turned up to gather more alcohol... we forgot it was schoolies :banghead: Bunch of W@nkers they were too. Connor was being cute and looking at them (because they were making so much noise) and then he waved and pointed at them and they yelled and gave us the finger etc etc Not pleasant. What the hell is with teenagers today?? I don't remember schoolies being around when I finished school and even if it was I don't think any of my friends wouold have acted like such drunken, rude, ferral, uncooth loosers (it was like 12:30ish and they were paraletic... and driving a speed boat - hmmm responsible...)

Anyway enough about that...

Later on we popped up to see the IL's who are here for a week or so collecting more furniture etc to take to their place up in QLD. SIL and my 2 nieces were there too. Connor loved to play with his cousins - it was great, considering he rarely eveer sees other kids out here. They were really good and very responsible with him too (4 and 6 yr olds). FIL and MIL got on my nerves as usual but only a week of their cr@p and then I wont have to see them til new years!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Cute photo's Juzzy! Coen is standing in his cot too - its trying on the patience... but if you can handle the first few times hopefully Cassidy will begin to understand that its no use standing up you will just put her back down to sleep... :fingerscrossed:

Hey guys

Been feeling a bit better today. Tired as Cassidy had a bad night last night. She refused to go to bed and screamed for ages. Kept standing up in the cot or rolling over.

She is tired today, woke up at 5.45 then went back to bed until about 9am.

DP, Cassi and i went for lunch at Arthurs Seat and then caught up with DPs parents for the afternoon at our place.

Cassidy went for a nap at 230 and woke up screaming at 6. She has hit her nose on something and it is bright red and looks like it has bled as there is dried blood around her nostrils. I have no idea what she has hurt herself on but i feel like such a bad mummy. It took her ages to calm down after that though. She wont let me touch her face at all so i am guessing it is sore. Its also a little swollen. I feel so bad. :gloomy:

Sore nose (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p46/juzz01/P1010422.jpg)

Sore nose from side (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p46/juzz01/P1010419.jpg)

As for breastfeeding, i hadn't completely given up, i kept offering the boob to her and she has come back to normal today so i am thinking it could be my hormones that are making her go on and off boob milk. Dont know how right that could be though.

Ren Pakenham is really nice. There are some lovely estates and things like that around that area as well.

Hels Sorry to hear about the BFN, fingers crossed for next month

Anyways, time for bed for me!

 hi everyone

thanks for all for thinking of my little one while he was in hospital.

He's up and playing now during his awake time and tho still sleeping a lot he isnt asleep more than awake, like he was!

That visit to hospital was up there with my worst of hospital stays. I made dp take him for every poke and prode test. it just made my hair stand on end going through all that again...

The hospital itself was one of the best we've been in. So welcoming...we got there with next to nothing but they gave us everything we needed til we could get our things. They explained everything to the older kids when they came in and even put videos on for them so dp and i could stay with him together rather than one of us taking the kids home.

he's on the mend now. He should be back to his normal self soon.

Hi everyone  . Haven't posted for a while. Had an interesting week. DH had the week off as he starts a new job tomorrow. He was a great help with Liam......who has been a bit of a terror this past week. What's with this fighting sleep thing? On average it now takes us at least an hour to get him down for every nap. The only exception is the morning sleep, which he will usually go down for without too much of a fight. From then on it's a nightmare  . Liam crawls, rolls over, stands up throws himself around the cot.....cries, and just plain refused to sleep. Even when he's tired he does this..........was thinking I might keep him up for longer instead of putting him down at lunchtime as I end up wasting half the day getting him to sleep anyway :banghead:

Liam's had mild nappy rash that has got so much better since using Sudacrem. Highly recommend this cream......I'm starting to think it's a reaction to the mango we gave him as the rash seemed to come back after giving it to him for a second time???

I am going in to visit work this week. I'm so dreading next year when I go back 2 days per week.........I have to start psyching myself up for it because I'm so not ready to take that step

I've done absolutely NO CHRISTMAS SHOPPING YET, not even my Secret Santa pressie. I better get my butt into gear.

Hope everyone's bubs are being good for their mums.........if not, at least we all experience the same thing!

Juzz - Poor Cassi! How's her nose now? Last week Jack looked like he'd been in a street brawl

Kay - Welcome back  Sorry to hear about Eli. Glad he's doing better now. How are you going?

Jack slept for a total of 1 hour yesterday. 40 minutues of that was in the car as we were so desperate for him to sleep.

He's been up since 5.30 this morning and is showing no signs of slowing down.

I'm thinking about chucking some toys in his cot and leaving him in there until he crashes. Not really sure what else to do. I feel like I'm never going to catch a break with his sleeping issues. All suggestions welcome.

Hope everyone had a good weekend

Kay - :hugs: for Eli - I had no idea he was sick! I'm so sorry to hear he's been in hospital - I hope he's on the mend.

Juzzy - how's Cassi? That bump looks sore but the nose is a delicate place so it would look bad anyway. Don't feel guilty, I think they are all taking bashings at the moment and you can't hold onto them 24/7! Eloise constantly has bruises on her head.

Lauren and Jo - sounds like you're both doing it tough with the sleep. Hang in there...I have no advice as Eloise isn't the best sleeper. Luckily I do get 2 sleeps out of her usually, although the second is only about 30 mins. I guess you're both hanging out for when they drop to 1 day sleep!

Mon - the interview sounds positive. I hope you get some good news about it :fingerscrossed: Are you feeling a bit better now? Hope so..

Hels - sorry to hear about the :bfn: I hope that's the last one you see!

 and sorry to everyone else I've not mentioned. I haven't been on for a while so I have too much to catch up with!

Had a lovely weekend - we went to the Yarra Valley races yesterday with a big group of friends. It was great...only Eloise and I though as DH is currently marking hundreds of VCE papers (and getting paid peanuts for the priviledge might I add!). I was so worried about E getting burnt but I managed to keep her out of the sun all day and I had her slathered in factor 30+. I didn't win a cent - tried to get flash with box trifecta bets and stuff but it just meant I lost even more money

She has finally mastered the art of waving and putting her arms up to be cuddled - it's the cutest thing. She's so amazing and such a character (but then I'm biased ;) )

Eloise has also grown to enjoy the spa - she had no choice as we keep shoving her in there!

Spoke to mum last night in the UK and it sounds like we will have to hire a private jet to bring home everything they have bought Eloise! She has a whole new wardrobe and a mountain of toys there. My family are so, so excited about seeing her again they've gone a bit mentalist about getting things for her. My mum even wants to buy her a whole set of cloth nappies for whilst we're there so I don't have to bring ours! I drew the line there!

Phew..what a long post! It's gonna be a hot one today Melbourne girls.

Kay Sorry to hear that Eli has been in hospital. I had no idea. Hope that he is on the mend now however. Poor little tyke.

Lauren Maybe give the toys in the cot idea a go. If he is tired enough it may just work. Other than that i am out of ideas. Cassidy is being a pain at sleep time so i have limited suggestions.

Cassidy's nose is a bit better, the swelling has gone down a bit but you can see a bruise across the ridge of her nose. The red marks on the tip of her nose are now bright red and look painful. She still wont let me touch it so i guess it is still sore.

Cassidy has started rolling over in her sleep. Last night i went to check on her before going to bed and she was on her stomach wedged up against the side of the cot! LOL Thankfully i rolled her over and she drifted back off to sleep. Dont like the idea of her sleeping on her stomach.

Anyways, best be off. Going to be hot here today so need to wash my nappies and hang them out.

Lauren - I have no ideas for you unfortunately. I feel like a failure in the sleep department at the moment :gloomy: . It took me 1.5 hours to get Liam down this morning even though he was tired and he's only just gone down now.........I've had days like that where Liam has only had 1 hour sleep. I thought it was teething but when he's up and playing he seems happy so I just think he doesn't want to sleep :banghead: . We've put a couple of toys in his cot and left him and it works for a while.......he doesn't sleep though.

Juz - I hope Cassidy's nose heals up soon. They all gets bumps & bruises. Liam wacked his head on the buffet table today so that's another bruise though it doesn't look that bad.

Hannah - Sounds like you had a ball at the races! Eloise sounds like she also had a good time. Did you get lots of your friends to look after her while you enjoyed yourself?!! Sounds like you won't have to buy Eloise many Chrissy gifts going by what your parents have bought her :)

Not much to report on here........it's hot and I'm inside with the airconditioning on full.......

I had to laugh the other day when DH was giving Liam some nappy off time. He was laying down with Liam standing on his stomach and next thing Liam did a wee & aimed perfectly in DH's mouth! How gross is that! DH was pretty grossed out by it and was washing his mouth out with soap

Lauren - Liam is the same.......refuses to lay down......that's why it takes so long to get him to sleep he has to be totally exhausted before he will lay down. I feel for you.....it's very frustrating. I usually end up walking out to calm down but it drives me nuts and do this 1000 times so my technique isn't that great
Maybe try listening to your Ipod for a while to take your mind off it.

Connor was up ALL night - We put him to bed at 7pm and he woke up at 8:30pm and slept on and off for about 20 mins at a time until abut 4:30am whn he just screamed and screamed. No idea what was wrong. gave him panadol, changed nappy, gave a bottle, bonjella, sips of water, played relaxation Cd - you name it we did it :banghead:

He has had a sleep for about 20 mins this morning but has been up since 11am:eek: - he is currently screaming in his cot.

???? WTH is up with this whole not sleeping thing??!!

Sorry... just needed to vent.

Juz - Maybe the blah feeling kicks in for a while at 9 months... seems to be quite a few people that have 'caught' it. There are a lot of additional challenges at this stage. Maybe instead of the baby blues, these are the baby purples?

Personally I think some of the "fun" of having a baby has gone and some of the reality of having a child is setting in. Like people dont swoon over the baby as much anymore. The reality seems to be endless responsibility and pressures on the mum -forever!! Not very cheery on the surface but i am trying to look on it as a good thing. That everything I put in to lily will pay off when i see the confident little lady she is becoming.

Juzzy and Lauren were talking about breast fedding problems. In response - i am so close to weaning Lily. She bites, scratches and refuses quite a lot. One day i got over it i gave her formula and she loved it!!
Also physically I think my body is over it. 18 months without AF and i am ready to have some oestragan again!! After all it is what makes us women.....
Dont know when/how to make the decision about weaning???? any ideas?

 hi everyone

thanks for all for thinking of my little one while he was in hospital.

:hugs::hugs:
Tell us the story - was it an infection?

I hear you on the sleep department! Reece has started turning over in the cot now. Trouble is, he doesn't like sleeping on the tummy so he cries and whinges. I lost track of how many times I went in to him last night to roll him over, and DH went in this morning at 5.30am.
Reece got up around 9am for a couple of hours this morning and then slept again until 3pm  I had to wake him just to feed him, so I have kept him up now until bedtime.

Lovely hot weather here in Melb, infact I think it reached 38'c! Hope all the Melb girls coped ok?

I've been really busy working, it's big week coming up as I have to finish DH's bookwork, the BAS is due on friday.

Have a good night everyone, I'm having an early night (I hope )

I'm back. Think i am suffering from post holiday blues.

The trip was lovely - we went to the bunya mountains which is a national park north west of toowomba. We rented a huge house with great views. It had its own pool table and it was cold so we had a fire each night (real contrast to the heat you guys are having down south).

But, holidays are not the same as they used to be. Very little down time. So much to take when you leave the house - and other times when you are stuck there (like at night). I used to be an avid bird watcher and bush walking but the pram doesnt fit on many good walks and the birds fly a mile when they hear a baby cry. and did i mention how diffficult it is to change a nappy on the side of a muddy mounatin track. As mums we take our work everywhere.

Little baby whinge - what is it with the pinching? During her last feed tonight lily pulled off the boob and pulled and tweaked by litlle spout so hard just to get a reaction out of me!!!!!

OK i think i have finished venting for now.

Lily still isnt crawling but she is close - she goes up on her hands and keeps one foot tucked under her but she doesnt know what to do next.

The little maniac woke up after 15 minutes. GRRRRR....what a crapo day. He's in bed for good now and is quiet apart from the cot rail banging back and fourth.

Jen - How's Connor now? Settled?

Little bugger did the same as Jack. He cried until he pretty much passed out then woke up after about 20 mins!! :banghead:

He is asleep now - has woken up once already - but Im hoping he is just so tired he will sleep through. I gave him his zantac quite late so hopefully no probs there either :fingerscrossed:

DH was in the city for meetings today and on his way home he picked up some beer and some hot chips for me - what a sweetie, he knows junk food = Jen happy. I was on the verge of nervous breakdown this arvo, it was nice to have him think of me... even if the chips were cold after the long drive home!! He is away on a conference for the next few days, so Im going to help him get his stuff packed and then we are going to hang out in front of the Tv and watch some Dr Who dvd's together.

Sorry for the "me me me me" post, it's been a really horrible day.

Back to happy again tomorrow I hope!!

:hugs: to everyone who needs them!!

Kay- so good to have you back!!!! I hope my little mate is feeling back to his old self soon! In regards to your 'craft thing'- its no secret i suck at all things crafty BUT what about some wall hangings? You could do a few each year for her and eventually it will make a quilt?

:hugs: to everyone with sleep issues!! Not having any atm but im sure my time will come.

Cody had a 'moment' this afternoon- she was standing- hanging onto the coffee table and let go- she stood alone for a little while and didnt even realise. Awwww she's growing so fast!! Lucky for me- i had just come in from work so i didnt miss it- i would have been so upset if i had.

I had better go- kids are all asleep and im attempting to make a Xmas card for a special little family- yes you heard right- MAKE a card!!

Ohh spooky..our day was very simliar. I had hot chips for tea too

I hope Connor sleeps thru for you :hugs:

Tan - Yay to Cody! Were any of your other kids early walkers? Maybe Cody will be?

Shazza - I have a nipple tweaker too....I hate it! He pinches my arm too while feeding sometimes.

I hear you on the b/f issues....I'm in two minds about what to do. Jack won't drink formula, he spits it out and I'm not keen on starting him on a bottle for only 3 months. I'm finding I'm enjoying it less these days. He literally shoves me out the way when he's finished feeding now. Good luck with your decision :)

Hi Ladies,

Wow what a weekend it's been. I had Jake home from kinder today, he's fine just a nasty cough that makes him feel a little under the weather. Hopefully tommorrow he'll be back at kinder.

Re the sleep issues. When B and M weren't sleeping very well she suggested that I stay home for a few days and keep to a routine. Whatever that may be. When they woke I would resettle and put back down, this could have gone on for an hour or more. Eventually after a couple of days they did start to sleep longer.

B and M have never really been the greatest of sleepers, but apparently premmies can be more unsettled than fulltermers.

After persisting with the resettling they do tend to give me, when we're home, at least 1 and a half to 2 hours at a time. If given the chance, they sleep twice a day, morning and afternoon.

It is a pain, but having been through it with Jake, I can tell you that it is a phase that they go through and with a bit of luck it will pass by quickly.

Oh and B and M have finally started to commando crawl everywhere.

Any ideas about how to encourage them to sit unassisted?

Wow it's hard to imagine some of these babies trying to walk already! Where as Reece is one of the oldest in the group and he hasn't fully mastered the art of crawling yet lol.

Is it possible that a baby can go stright to walking without really crawling first?

Not sure if I mentioned before but we finally have our first little toothy peg :smiliedance:

Hels - Congrats on Reece's first toothy peg! Liam has one bottom one also. I have heard some bubs go straight to walking.

mummybunny - wow, Riley is nearly walking! Liam has shown signs of this but really he just stands and holds onto things. He sometimes takes a sideways step.......I'm not that keen on the walking just yet....that will equal more bruises

Lauren - How's Jack's sleeping today? Liam refused to settle this morning and I ended up taking him out in the pram for over an hour.......he slept the whole time and I was hot but it was worth it. This avo he only went down half an hour ago after over an hour trying to get him to sleep :banghead:. His room in air conditioned so it's not the heat........it's driving me crazy. We are currently trying the Controlled Comforting technique.

Squiggles - sounds like Connor is being hard work at the moment. I can relate to having a near nervous breakdown. I nearly had one this morning. Mmmmm cold chips sounds good. We were bad and had KFC last night so I got my chips and potato and gravy fix.

Sharon - thanks for the tips re: settling. I hope you're right and it is a phase. As for encouraging your bubs to sit unassisted......Liam would wobble and fall over for ages and one day he just seemed to get the hang of it. We would try and sit him using this breastfeeding pillow that has legs & doubles up as a cushion to help bubs sit (called the zoo cushion or something - from Baby Bunting). Others use those baby seat things.

Ziggy - I know what you mean about post holiday blues. I love holidays.....but you're right there's an extra challenge having a bub to deal with! We go away early January for 4 days to Albury but there will be another 2 couples with kids so it should be fine.

Well, I hear Liam stiring over the monitor. Not sure what to give him for dinner tonight. What's everyone giving their bubs for dinner?

He's a bit better. He's had 2 sleeps for about an hour each. If we can stretch them out to 1.5 hours each I'll be happy. I think he's ready to drop a sleep. He's coping much better with being awake for longer now (I'm not). Good luck with the CC. It definately worked for us

US - Still not exactly sure what Jack's problem was yesterday but he's been drooling lots today so he could be getting more teeth. I think he's still getting used to not being wrapped during the day too (we only stopped day wrapping on the weekend) My PIL came to visit today. They brought me lunch which was nice. Short and sweet visits are always the best

Jen - How's Connor been today?

Is it possible that a baby can go stright to walking without really crawling first? Sure is... apparently it has been a growing trend in recent time to just skip crawling all together...

Sorry to hear about Jack and Connor's sleeping woes... you can add us to the mix - well for tonight anyway!!! So l need your help gals - l know a few of you have had some experience with Bronchilitis.. well turns out Coen has just developed it... it hasn't phased him up until tonight, (the cough started yesterday and got progressively worse through last night and into today)... but this evening we put him to bed as usual... an hour later he woke up screaming...it took us another 45 minutes to get him back down again...

So to my call for help... what can you tell me about it? As in how long is it contagious for? Any tips on getting through it??? As l said Coen doesn't seem to be too bothered by it, but from what my Doc says Day 2 & Day 3 are usually the worst... we had Day 2 today, Day 3 tomorrow... so would like to be prepared...

I think Ben and Matthew are the oldest and they too have only just started crawling. Some kids don't crawl they just start to walk, so it is possible.

Congrats on Reece's first tooth.

Hi Sandy, I'm sorry to hear that Coen isn't well. Bronchiolitis isn't much fun at all.

From my understanding of bronchiolitis, it's a virus and all viruses are contagious for 7 - 10 days. Because it's a virus not much can be done for it except to let it take its course.

I use a vaporiser and that seems to help keep the airways clearer. I give panadol and or nurofen regularly and feed as often as possible. I try to keep their chest warm and keep the temp in the house consistent.

It's not a fun illness and the cough can last for months. As long as he appears to be breathing okay and feeding okay then you just have to ride the wave. The cough may seem worse at night.

Good luck and I hope the Coen feels better soon.

Sorry to hear Coen is sick. Sharon has given some great advice. My only other suggestion is to encourage rest when you can, offer feeds every 2 hours and more often thru the night and elevate the head of his cot.

BIG :hugs: to you and Coen. Let me know if you need anything

Morning all,

Sandy - How is Coen this morning? I'm not too sure on bronchitis, but th vaporizer sounds like a good idea. I would be careful with any vicks or anything like that... I know that can't be used until 2 yrs. Poor little bloke, hope he gets better quickly.

Well, yesterday mum offered to take Connor to give me a break. So I packed him up and drove him to her place and went and had my haircut which was nice. I thought I would then rush to the shops and try and get myself some new clothes while I had the chance... I definately rushed... and got pulled over by a cop with a laser gun and scored myself a nice $300 fine - he reckons I was doing 98km in an 80 zone... Im sure I wasn't going that fast, as the other cars around me seemed to be travelling just as quickly and I don't normally speed that much... but what could I do, can't exactly dispute it can I?? So that sucked. Then picked up Connor and took him home. He took 2.5 hours to get him to sleep and woke up a further 3 times last night!! He managed to take his safe t sleep off and stand up in his grobag and the scream!!:hissy:Dh is away on a conference so no one to complain to this morning - so, sorry girls but I have had to dish out my whinge to you!! AHHHHH I NEED SLEEP and a child who sleeps. This "phase" sucks!!! (Insert nervous breakdown smileys here)

mornin' :barf:

is anyone using the 1yr old baby foods?

we've got the rice wheels here and he loves them. I going to try a fruit stick but i think ill leave that. i was able to trick the others into thinking fruit sticks were "lollies" for many many years so im hoping to do the same for this one!

he is getting better, still has a really wet cough. sorry to hear coen is sick but at least you know what you are dealing with...i wouldnt wish that unknown hour we had, on anyone. If you can manage it at home thats great. Thats right the day 2-3 are bad but did you know the cough can take up to a few weeks to shift in some babies? i think little jack had the cough for ages after it too ??

ive had a 3 month old with it, turned out to be RSV we ended up in hospi on oxygen and the cough went soon after but i had another one get it older and it stayed for weeks on end...

i went to a meeting about ds starting school. Even tho ive done it twice before, it had me in quiet thought. i dont want my baby to start school! :crying:

i heard FTM asking frantic questions about if buckles were allowed on shoes, If their child cant open packets in their lunch what will they do, who will sunblock their child, what colour raincoat they had to have and do they sign their child out...and i thought i was beyond that worry but i still dont feel ok with him starting school and that bit feels like the first one all over again...wish i could wind back time and hold that little 4lb baby in my arms again.

on a happier note...

and 'the future of my sons butt (little son, not big one)

:hugs: for Coen Sandy - wishing him a speedy recovery. I hope you're ok - how's your back now?

Jen - aaarrrgggh! Hope you manage to catch up on some sleep soon you poor thing. What a bummer about the speeding fine too.

Ziggy Sharon - what lovely pictures of your hols. That size comparison picture in your album is amazing.

Jo - best of luck with the CC. I always think you can change things with consistency so I hope it works for you.

My clever bubba said 'ta' yesterday when I gave her a toy - we've been working on it for a while. Proud mummy moment! Not so proud mummy moment - I popped out last night and she absolutely would not settle for daddy. She was asleep when I went out but woke an hour later and cried for 45 minutes! Poor DH tried everything to get her to settle. It's strange because she has taken to crying when he leaves for work in the morning ("no! Don't leave me with mummy all day again!!).

Can't be bothered to go swimming today so I'm going to be naughty and not go. Thank goodness the weather has changed. It was 81 degrees in E's room last night (I think that's about 26/27 degrees) so she'll have to have the portable air conditioner in there on Saturday when it hits 38

Big thanks to everyone for the sympathy and the advice... Coen really is being a little trooper... l think it all bothers me more than him, l find between 2-4/5 in the morning he gets worse and l don't get any sleep cos l am paranoid that he might not be breathing properly... He slept right through, although we woke him up at about 2.30 when he was niggling cos it sounded like he has flem caught somewhere... and he did... suffice to say mouth and nose were shortly cleaned, l gave him a quick drink and he was asleep whilst l lay in bed hoping that he would fall asleep then worrying when everything went quiet and hoping he would make a noise... talk about paranoia!!!

My back is still sore - but better - but it does make things a bit difficult cos Coen is a lot more clingy... not crying but just following me around the house and crawling up my leg so l will pick him up - Mum has come round to spend the day with us (Thanks Mum)...

I hadn't really considered the prospect of Coen getting asthma - but it does run in my family -- bugger... l guess we'll just wait and see!

Vicks is fine to use. I burn eucalyptus all the time, and did so while I was preg. The stuff that can be used with the vaporiser is safe to use from any age.

It's the coldest point during that time in the night. Try and keep the heating on a bit and see if that makes a difference. They don't/won't diagnose asthma till they are over 2.

How are you both today? I hope you manage to get some rest while your mum is there.

You can contest the fine at the magistrates court, but without any evidence or genuine reason, it's most likely not worth it. Bummer.

I hadn't really considered the prospect of Coen getting asthma - but it does run in my family -- bugger... l guess we'll just wait and see!

I hope Coen is feeling better soon :hugs:. We have asthma in the family (and so does the donor) so I think it's a dead cert that Reece will have it. He has had a cough since birth and gets wheezy when he's over-excited and thrashing about.

Hannah - Sounds like Eloise is progressing in leaps and bounds with her words, teeth, growth and diet! The folks back home will be impressed!!

Kay - Great to hear you are getting a KK I bet you will love it!
Reece has those baby mum mum rice biccies that are for 12 mths + and some of the jars for 12M too.

He is doing so much better with the solids now. But last night we had chicken stirfry and rice. I chopped it up for him but he wasn't impressed. But I think it was the flavour rather than the food.

Er, yes, maybe too well on the growth I think - she just looks more and more huge by the day! It sounds like Reecey will soon be tucking into steak dinners at this rate  Anyway, I'm sure the 'ta' thing was a fluke - it was just terribly exiting at the time!

I probably should have slept but l spend all morning doing stuff on the computer... :geek: - couldn't get my ticker to work in my e-mail signature which was annoying me... got there in the end...
Bought some Christmas presents for people...

Coen is doing okay... would have slept for a few hours this morning, but woke up with a wet nappy that leaked... our fault, l thought DH had changed his nappy so didn't bother to check it (he usually does), but he figured since l had changed it during the night it would be fine... oh well... he's down - l hope he sleeps for awhile... he has eaten a bit more today... gotta up the fluids though...

I feel a bit sick myself... don't know if its just him infecting me so that he gets better or lack of sleep that has lowered my immune system :fingerscrossed: that l don't get sick...
This weather in Melbourne sucks, yesterday l had the aircon on, today l have the heater on... l am trying to keep the house an even temperature for Coen....

I really don't like being housebound... I guess l should be doing cleaning or something... but l honestly can't think of anything worse right now... can l use the fact that l feel like **** as an excuse for just lazing around do you think???

DH and l had a talk the other night... we're snapping at each other a lot... don't get me wrong - DH does a sh!t load of stuff to help out with Coen... but we really have been neglecting our relationship - l'm just scared that we will keep doing that and two years down the track we will wake up and not have anything in common anymore... so we'll see...

Oh by the way - on work - did l mention that l spoke to the Workchoices Authority & the Human Rights and Equal Opp. Commission - you don't have to be back at work for another 12 months to claim maternity leave again :yelclap:
Right now - under WPRA (the legistlation) we are only eligible for an equivalent position (however this may change depending on who get in power), so if you were full time before they don't have to offer you part time.... however under the Equal Opportuities Act - it could be classed as Sexual discrimination and the Commission would happily intervene...

Just some info for any who is interested...
Okay - might go and read for awhile... I feel :barf:

Rant Rant Rant. Feel free to gloss over... I just need to get it out.

Ants. I HATE them! I'm sure they came inside yesterday morning looking for water. There were only a dozen or so, but when I got home last night there were a dozen or so in a dozen or so different spots. That's a lot of ants spread out. Completely freaked out when I was in bed and I could feel ants crawling on me. They were on the doona cover. :barf:

Needless to say I had nightmares involving ants. Big ants. With wings.

Next rant.

Liam seems to be fine with the swimming, but geez it is giving me some shocking dandruff. Grrr.

Another rant.

MIL asked me what we are getting Liam for Christmas and his birthday, as she doesn't want to double-up on stuff, which is fine. But when I tell her what we have planned to get I wasn't expecting her to tell me her opinions on our choices. Am going to get one of those bead frame toys as I saw Liam playing with it at a friends house and seemed to really enjoy fiddling with it. Well, MIL told me that I was wasting money buying one as she sees lots of them at garage sales and op shops. Nearly every single toy and item of clothing that Liam has is second-hand. Is it that wrong to ask Santa to bring something brand new???

Last rant.

What is up with the weather? Boiling hot one day, absolute freezing the next. Crazy.

Okay, I'm done. Congrats if you made it through all that. Will have to work on a smiley poem or something now to contribute some positive vibes to make up for all these negative ones.

I was at the shops before and was loading the pram into the boot...I misjudged it and smashed my tail light. ****.

Jack did this :hissy: for half and hour and then only slept for 10 minutes

That's it....Jacks screaming at me because he's soooo tired. Must go

New rant.

Our air conditioning ducts were supposed to be installed today, and the guy was supposed to arrive at 9am. Guess what time he arrived... 4.30pm. And then he said that he couldn't do anything today, and he would call me on Monday to organise a day for later next week!

Where has the eye-pop smiley gone? I think it was called eek. isn't the same.

Maybe I'll throw a hissy fit instead. :hissy:

I'm not keen on the new laughing smiley. He looks insincere

I had chocolate earlier - it SOOOOOOOO helps... Jack usually stays asleep for you doesn't he??? so you should be right for tonight... Little chance of Coen staying to sleep for me tonight... he hasn't slept enough today for a healthy baby let alone a sick one... I am in two minds about waking him up to give him a dreamfeed - part of me asks are you insane, other part of me knows he didn't eat much today and wants to ensure he is getting enough fluid... thoughts anyone???

Usually but not tonight...somethings up with him but I'm not sure what yet. He was hysterical. DH had just arrived home and Jack was screaming when he was holding him.... I cuddled him for a bit and layed him back down and he went off to sleep. I think we could be in for an unsettled night

Awww... my poor bubba is so sick !! He is asleep in his cot and I can hear his obstructed breathing from here (sitting in the kitchen/loungeroom... about 5 metres away). I gave him a little bit of Panadol before, so I'm hoping that it will at least let him have a decent nights sleep (I suspect that he had a headache before). I'm pretty sure however that he will be awake before the night is out.

In the meantime, I'm currently in the process of covering my loungeroom floor in the foam alphabet mats. It sure is going to make the room very colouful !! Unfortunately we only have ceramic tiles on the floor in our main living areas so when Kaelan falls over (which he does occasionally) it is not a soft landing. I'm sick of hearing 'thump' and then hysterical screaming. My worst nightmare is that he is going to fall backwards and crack his head open... and I can't even really section him off (other than using a playpen... which we already have) because our house is very open plan.

Anyways... as a result of our current abode being not toddler-friendly, we are looking at building another house. We initially started looking at houses similiar sizes to this current one (about 22 squares) but with each progressive display house that we've been to, our dream house seems to have got bigger and bigger. Somehow we have now ended up considering building a 41 square, two storey house which seems ridiculously big to me... but it does have everything that we really want in a house (4 bedrooms, study, rumpus room and alfresco). We met with our finance guy today and he has verbally given us pre-approval for a loan if need be. We can't officially apply for the loan though until settlement of our Unit.. which is supposed to be mid-December.

Oh dear.. I can hear K coughing... he does not sound good at all.

Surprisingly good (touch wood) I think he was so tired from all of this not sleeping that he had 2 decent sleeps today and went down tonight without too much of a fuss and has managed to stay asleep (touch wood again) He had only 1 ferral screaming fit today - so all in all a good day!

We also have those couloured square alphabet mat thingos - we have floorboards here and carpet in the bedrooms and new place has tiles and floorboards - not an inch of carpet. So Im might have to go and get some more... the whole cracking the head open fear is stirring in me!!!

41 sq's - Nice one. Swing a couple of dozen cats in that!! Our place now is 4 br, formal lounge dining and family room and eat in kitchen - you get more for your $$ in the middle of no where!! We are going the opposite to you Penny and moving to a freakin small little shoebox house. We really wanted to be in a nice area and we are 1 street from a park and 3 streets from the beach but we are going to lose a bedroom and eat in kitchen. I figure its less housework but I think I will really miss a big house. Building is so exciting, well the idea of it anyway sounds exciting, I would'nt know we have never done it... but I love the idea of choosing evereything in the house - all to your taste.

mornin' :barf:

is anyone using the 1yr old baby foods?

ive had a 3 month old with it, turned out to be RSV we ended up in hospi on oxygen and the cough went soon after but i had another one get it older and it stayed for weeks on end...

i went to a meeting about ds starting school. Even tho ive done it twice before, it had me in quiet thought. i dont want my baby to start school! :crying:

i heard FTM asking frantic questions about if buckles were allowed on shoes, If their child cant open packets in their lunch what will they do, who will sunblock their child, what colour raincoat they had to have and do they sign their child out...and i thought i was beyond that worry but i still dont feel ok with him starting school and that bit feels like the first one all over again...wish i could wind back time and hold that little 4lb baby in my arms again.

i have a KK on the way!!

The 1 yr food has been going down a treat for awhile!! But would you expect anything less?

I have DS2 starting school this year too and its breaking my heart! I keep looking at him thinking im not ready and then he throws some cheek my way and i look at him and think "bring it on......"

I too have done the oxygen and RSV thing- its so scary isn't it. I remember when they did the lung xrays of him- you couldn't see his lungs through he crud that was on them. It was just a white/gray haze.

Im jealous of the KK- how did you get it?

My clever bubba said 'ta' yesterday when I gave her a toy

I popped out last night and she absolutely would not settle for daddy. She was asleep when I went out but woke an hour later and cried for 45 minutes! Poor DH tried everything to get her to settle.

Yay to her for the words!! She'll be swearing like a truckie soon:laughing:

Hey guys,

Just came in to say Hello

Cassidy has been well. Apart from massive poop issues (4 poop nappies today and yesterday) meaning she now has a bad 'bum rash' as DP calls it.

DP is going to Sydney next Monday. He is going for two weeks by himself and then i might be going up there for the other 2 weeks. I dont like being home alone but i guess i will have to learn to cope.

I am of to the dentist tomorrow for a few hours and DP has to look after Cassidy. Dont know how he will cope considering she has been fairly clingy to me the last few days.

I dont really have much to say feel a bit :barf: so i am off to bed very soon.

Seems like alot of the bubbas are sick at the moment big :hugs: to them all.

oh i saw something about the tins of food before?? Riley has what we eat sometimes, yesterday he had a cheese sandwich for lunch and a boost juice, this kid is one you don't mess with his food though, if he wants it he will tell you!!
Riley has been eating the 1-3 years tins for about 11/2 months now, he loves them, but he also has 8 teeth, this boy will try anything once, we give him a bit of everything we have just to see what he likes and doesn't, he loves hot chips, and he loves chicken he also loves boost juice lol he will pretty much eat everything we do unless it has nuts im not game to try him on nuts, he even sat down with us when we had bbqs sat and Sunday night and had a whole sausage and spat out the yucky bits and skin!!
along with that sausage he had half a bread roll a little bit of chocolate and a few doritos (which he kept taking out of my hand the bugger!) he also had a yogurt and 2 bottles and 2 huge cups of water!! i think i have a huge eater on my hands!! what is everyone else feeding there bubbies??

Reece went down for his sleep at 12.30pm and he has been sleeping until 3.30pm lately. I have been keeping him up after that until bedtime, so really he's only having 1 sleep a day at the moment. I have also started him on 3 meals a day which is working out well.

I only suspected the headache because he was pretty symptomatic of a headcold.. plus he seemed to be a little photophobic and very unsettled. He did get back up again after I posted... and the Panadol had kicked in by then, so he was a little happier.

Unfortunately though, what I thought was only going to be a head cold seems to have also moved down to his chest and he is quite rattly in his upper airways and has developed a very distinct barking cough.. almost croup-like. This is probably the sickest he's been in his short nine months... so I'll be keeping a close eye on him.

They also apparently do a 34 square version... so if finances get tight, we might go for that option. At the moment, we're looking at possibly building in Mernda which is about 15 minutes from here... however, nothing is set in concrete (DF is looking for another job, so it will depend where he can get a position). Personally I'd love to go somewhere like Berwick.

Well, because of K being sick, it is a very low key day here today. Might do some housework and do a bit of a spring clean on our cupboards. My parents are coming down tomorrow to stay the weekend... they're going to look after K on Saturday night so that DF and I can spend a night in the city (going to see Phantom of the Opera). I only pray now that we don't get what K has got because everytime that Kaelan has come down with a cold, DF and I have always got it a couple of days later. It is my first weekend off work since Mother's Day back in May... so I do not want to spend in sick in bed... that would really suck !!

(Just looking at the smileys again, and they've changed the banghead smiley :banghead: I like the old one better)

Hi all

How are we all today

Like a few of you i have a baby who refuses to sleeps and just screams when you try to get him to sleep. Its driving me insane.

He now has 2 teeth through.

Santa photos I tried to get a santa photo on Sunday but Lochlain wasn't in the best mood. He was fine until i left him there by himself then he screamed. Will have to try again when he's in a better mood.

...what I thought was only going to be a head cold seems to have also moved down to his chest and he is quite rattly in his upper airways and has developed a very distinct barking cough.. almost croup-like. This is probably the sickest he's been in his short nine months... so I'll be keeping a close eye on him.
Well, because of K being sick, it is a very low key day here today. ...Hi Penny - sounds just like Coen - it started off just like a cold and then a couple of coughs... now a real chesty cough... its awful - this is the sickest Coen has ever been to - l hope you are lucky enough to avoid it - l unfortunately have not.

Jury is still out for us with Santa -- l tend to avoid shopping centres ... but would have to cave if l wanted a photo with Santa.

Coen is in bed crying at the moment... just a little whinge really whilst he gets himself ready to sleep - at least that is what l hope it is...

Oh Gawd Lauren - hope Jack's in bed early tonight to compensate for the 5 am wake up.

Yes....he was asleep by 6.15pm. He's been up at 5.30 most mornings this week. It's like he's on speed lately..maybe he ate some bindeez :shame:

Hope Miss Eloise is feeling better soon

.Question - Who's getting their bubs photo taken with Santa for Christmas?

I'll answer my own question...I can't wait either. Not sure how Jack will react. I think if were there he should be fine. I'm really into the whole Chrismassy thing :noel:

Penny - Jack had croup when he was about 2 months old. He sounded like a seal. How's K been tonight?

US - I've had a lovely day. Mon and Liam came to visit. Liam's sooo cute! My DH is still talking about the Hi 5's Liam gave him. I shall post some pics in a mini...

So... is DH going to start Jack on some intensive High Five training tomorrow??!

We had a lovely day today. Thanks for having us Lauren. Liam woke up when I took him out of the car, but he's had a cry for about 10 minutes in his cot and all is quiet now. Will check in a minute to make sure he is all fine and dandy.

Lauren. I'm an idiot. I had your camera case and bottle lid in my bag to give you and I completely forgot. I'm such a doofus.

Hope all the sick bubs are feeling better soon. And I hope all the mummies of sick bubs are hanging in there too.

It's our 4th wedding anniversary today. Haven't actually seen DH yet today... he left for work before I got up!

Happy anniversary Mon, I hope you get some of these when DH gets home ---> :flowerz:

Glad you went to Lauren's and had a nice time. Sorry it was a bit of a poor show this time
I hope we can all make up for it at the Chrissy party in 2 weeks :xmastree:

It actually worked well having just the two bubs. Liam is going through a strange "don't touch me" phase with other babies. Jack tried it, and the result was screams all around. Was great to catch up properly with Lauren too. The big meets seem to be over too quickly and I never feel like I've spoken to anyone properly.

He brought me balloons! Yay!

Okay... these smilies are freaking me out. Penny was just talking about the headbanging one changing, but it looked exactly the same to me. Come back later to post this, and now they look different. Maybe they update the PC ones first, and then the Mac ones?
