This word just irks me...
"My kid" doesn't sound good when I hear it. I think it irritates me because it sounds somewhat I dunno the word maybe impersonal?
When I refer to my children, they are my children or my daughter if talking about only one of them. Other than that I suppose I have it easy with just girls. "come on girls" "hurry up girls" "my girls"
So being a pointless type of thread to start...what do you call your child(ren)?
I call him my son...
I have noticed alot of males use the term 'my kid'...
i agree! i hate hearing - thats my kid, blah blah
BUT, when im talking i will say, we are planning 3 or 4 kids, or ask so wheres those darling kiddies of yours etc etc
I call him my son...

DH doesn't
I dont think we've every called DS "Our Kid", it's always been "Our little Man" or "Our little Boy"

:o Guilty as charged your honour:laughing:
I just thought it was an aussie thing...can't say I've thought much about it to be honest:no:
I mostly say "my son or my boys" but if he/they do something silly and I am telling someone about it I will often say "crazy kid". I do talk about my "poor kids" if they have to go through something bad (like being stuck at the shops with us for hours the other day) so I guess I use it. It just feels sort of relaxed and informal to me whereas if I said "poor children" it sounds really formal. There are some contexts I would use it in but other I would not (like I would never say "that's my kid").

I call my kids by their names or I call them both "bubba"

More often that not I say 'my son' or 'my children' but there is the odd occasion where I will say 'my kids' but I too don't really like the word.
It does sound impersonal and makes me think of a baby goat.

I hate the way people say "my kids" as well:yes: I do say to my mum "oh the kids are doing this" meaning my brother and fiancee.
A bit of both - it depends on the context and to whom I am speaking.
i dont see what the fuss is about. they are my kids so i call them my kids.
i dont say "come here kids" or things like that but if im talking about them to someone ill say "my kids..."
its just a short version of children

Same but I reffer to Julius as "Julius" or "My son".I havent said my kid, I always say child, but I do use the word kid just in different ways.
I say 'my kid' when I am joking.
Otherwise I say "my little boy" or "my baby".

I use it occassionally, as in "the kids can play together while we catch up"...
Doesnt bother me apart from people who only use it and it is never in a nice way....(long story of a friend of mums but not going into that)
I call my son, 'my son', 'bub', 'dude', 'little man', 'datsun', 'chups', 'spunk'/'spunky', 'bambino', 'feral kid', 'freddo', so many more......
I too just dont really see anything wrong with people using the word 'kid/s'! Its not a damaging word!
Each to their own though!

When talking about him, I don't say 'my kid' but I do use the term kid at other times. I have called him 'The Kid' when speaking about him and actually had that person (a 23year old male without children) say 'that sounds lovely, 'The Kid'!! ' - I meant it affectionately but I guess it wasn't taken that way :o oops!
So short answer is I wouldn't say 'my kid' but I do use the word 'kid', just not with 'my' in front of it :D

Same here....
Her nick names are more commonly used that anything else though..."squeazy" being the most fav :D
I try not to use the term "kid" as I prefer to say my child, daughter, toddler, or if other people's children are involved, then I say "the children".
I also don't like the term "bubs" but that is just me. I used to use it, but then DH stated that he didn't like it and after a while of not using it, I don't seem to like it either, however that is my choice and don't mind others using it.

I don't mind kiddies or kidlets...but I call B either my bub or baby or simply my daughter. I wouldn't use kid for any child of mine.

I just say Chanel, or my daughter.
I do refer to a group of children though, as "The Kids."
Like, "The kids can play together," or something...
I use "Lily" or "my daughter"... although my husband uses "kid"... not a big fan of that word either...

Yeah, I don't like the word 'kid' either, I agree that it sounds some what impersonal when referring to their child, as in; 'my kid is at kindy right now'. But saying, 'the kids are playing outside' doesn't bother me.
I've actually started saying Darling Daughter and Darling Son's I love the way it sounds! But most often I use their names.
I too have a thing about "kid" My DH uses it occasionally, and I say, we don't have a goat!! Silly I know.

I hate that word too! Although I am guilty of saying it when they are being naughty, I often say 'THIS KID IS DRIVING ME NUTS :hair: " Other then that, I call them my daughters or my children- does sound alot more personal.
DF on the other hand, he's shocking at the KID word
