I am only 21 years old. I got pregnant with my first child when I was 20. As soon as I found out it was a boy I started doing research on circumcising. I knew from the very start I didn’t want to do it. My fiance and I fought long, mean battles about it the whole time I was pregnant. In my heart I knew it was wrong. I had my baby boy on June 8th of this year! The best day of my life!!! HE WAS PERFECT!

The day after I had him my fiance’s parents and sister came to visit me and my son in the hospital. His father said to me, “I heard you ain’t gonna get him cut.” His exact words!

And I said, “No…”

He then said, “I hope you know that boy’s gonna cuss you for the rest of his life.”

After they left I cried for hours. I didnt know what to do. I was lost! I didnt want my son to hate me. The whole thing made me phisically sick to my stomach; the stress of such a decision. So I asked his doctor. and she told me I should do it because his little peepee was so small.

So I did it when he was 3 weeks old, and here is what happened. The nurse called us back to the room, we went in and the doctor came in right behind us. They told me to go back to the waiting room and they would be back in about 20 minutes. I went out and stared at the clock. About 7 minutes later the nurse came out of the double doors and told me to come on back so I did. As soon as I got to the doors I could hear my baby screaming, and my heart sank. I walked in the room, my baby was still strapped to the table. He was screaming so loud and hard he was dark, dark purple, and there was blood everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The nurse looked at me and told me she couldn’t get him to stop bleeding. She applied pressure for a few minutes then but a bandage on it and wrapped it up and sent us home. As soon as I got home I showed it to my mom who is a nurse and worked on the Labor & Delivery floor for a long time so she has seen her share of circ’s. She looked at it and said OMG they didnt do it right. His whole diaper was FULL of blood. So we went right back to the doctor’s office. They applied pressure for what seemed like forever. After the nurse gave up on that she went and got the other 3 doctor’s who are in that same practice. One would come in and look and walk back out, another one would come in and look then go back out, then the other one came back in and looked again, back and forth, and back and forth, and not saying one word to me. FINALLY, one of them said to me, “So you don’t worry all night about the bleeding we are going to send you to a surgeon across the street to cauterize the vein.”

So across the street we went. As soon as the docdtor took off his diaper he knew what they did. They cut ALL of the skin off the shaft of his penis, he had NONE left. The surgeon had to do surgery on him to sew his penis back together to stop the bleeding. Since there was no skin left he had to sew the top of his penis to baby fat that surronded the base. Because he had to use baby fat it is now bumpy and uneven. My baby has to have future surgeries! And I am so depressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like a awful person just because I let someone’s words get to me. My son almost died!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The doctor that did it never told me what happened!

That has to be the worst example of medical intervention gone wrong that I have ever read about or heard of in my life, and I have been around more than most. That infant suffered unbelievable and excrutiating agony and for what? That poor, poor little baby. I couldnt read half of it and had to skim through it, so painful was it to even read about, let alone experience.
The poor mum too, being goaded into having her perfect little baby horrendously disfigured in this way. Words just fail me. :gloomy:

I am SO sorry this happened to your little man. It was ******** and I'm so sorry your partners family put this much pressure on you.

This is a typical example of a mother's instincts telling her it was wrong, but pressure from other's making decisions for us.

A mother's intuition is NEVER wrong. I'm so sorry for you and your son. I hope you can come to terms with this, I really feel sorry you were backed into a corner like this. I wish I could give you a hug for real.

Many blessings to you and your son

That is appalling, I'm so upset after reading that.
I know he's not the first little baby boy to have gone through that.
I can feel the gut wrenching pain the Mother and baby would have experienced just by reading that. :( It is so very hard to come to terms with.

That is why I find it so difficult to understand why anyone educated on circumcision can possibly subject there precious little angel to such an act.

For me personally I find it a unkind thing to put a baby through.... It just makes me sad :(

If you think the story is upsetting I've seen pictures of a circ like this on youtube. All that was left was a bloody stump.

In fact ALL fresh circs look like a skinned possum, disgusting.

That is why I find it so difficult to understand why anyone educated on circumcision can possibly subject there precious little angel to such an act. A good friend once said do what you can to educate those still in the dark ages re circumcision.

It is my belief that people who HAVE circumcised wish to stay in the "dark ages" therefore they avoid the guilt that would come from knowing they subjected their defenceless baby to this pointless procedure.

PP is right - it's a defence mechanism.

That is so sad :( Reminds me of the story of the twins and one was raised as a female.

Oh that poor baby! I hope all the other surgeries go well and everything turns out ok! I know from personal experience that terrible things can happen during circ as happened to my nephew. I was challenged by a family member in the hospital over my decision not to circ my son as well. The nerve of some people and when you are allready feeling emotional. The behaviour of his grandfather is reprehensable.

:gloomy: What a very sad story. The Mother should have stuck with gut feeling. I guess any surgical procedure will always present risk. I hope all other surgeries the boy has in front of him will be successful.

But how can you educate those who don't want to learn? No matter what facts you come up with or what proof you have, they will not hear you.

Why do you think they don't comment on these threads?
If they REALLY TRULY believed deep down, that what they did was the RIGHT thing, then they should have no issues about discussing it.

PP if this was posted in the "discuss it" section maybe more of us would reply...by the way the only reason I'm posting is because of your post :) .

:crying: That poor little boy.. What a horrible thing for such a small baby to go through.. I hope that doctor received some sort of repercussions for what he did.. And to not even try and stop the bleeding or give any explanation what so ever:confused:

No, frankly I think it will have more to do with your needlessly aggressive and judgemental tone and vision of another person and your willingness to judge them and their right to be a parent.
As I have clearly stated in another thread, this sort of post and the following 'supporting' posts can be very damaging and unhelpful to many people on this forum.

Tragic as this story, there are plenty worse.

Rarely, the boy dies.
http://www.circumstitions.com/death.html

In the UK in the 1940s the death rate was as high as 1 in 5600 circumcisions.

It was largely due to a study on this the circumcision rate in the UK plummeted to very low.

I am so glad it is now discouraged in this country.

OMG that is awful! I have always thought it should be up to the parents to decide but after hearing that I think it should be illegal! Hope the FIL is happy, I wonder what he has to say about it now!

An Australian doctor was de-registered a couple of years, one of the reasons was for doing too many botched circumcisions.

That's terrible for sure. Genital modification is never a good thing even if it's done right. It's extremely rare that it's ever a medical necessity to perform.
