There's a restaurant here that does the best gnocchi... I wish I knew the recipe! It's got prawns and bacon and tomato... and other things. It's just fabulous.
The gnocchi dish I like is Gnocchi in Sage Butter... it's a recipe from Super Food Ideas magazine... I can't remember the EXACT recipe, but it's very basic.
Okay - I just found it online. It's fabulous. Here it is:
Ingredients (serves 4)
* 500g fresh potato gnocchi (see note)
* 80g butter, chopped
* 1/2 cup small sage leaves
* 1/2 cup walnuts, roughly chopped
* 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
* 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives
Method
1. Cook gnocchi in a large saucepan of simmering salted water, following packet directions, until just tender.
2. Meanwhile, melt butter in a large frying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes or until butter is frothy and begins to turn golden. Add sage and walnuts. Cook for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in nutmeg.
3. Drain gnocchi (see tips) and add to frying pan. Return to medium heat. Cook, tossing, for 2 to 3 minutes or until warmed through. Sprinkle with chives. Season with salt and pepper. Serve.
Notes & tips
* Potato gnocchi is available from the supermarket pasta aisle and refrigerated section.
* Cooking tips: If possible, use a stockpot with a pasta insert. This minimises tumbling which can break up gnocchi. After adding gnocchi to boiling water, stir gently with a wooden spoon to release any stuck to the base of pan. Use a slotted spoon to drain and remove gnocchi from water. Draining can cause tender gnocchi to break.

My partner is a Chef and at his work they make a gnocchi dish that I used to eat by the bucket load... I don't know the exact recipe, but I can possibly ask him how to make the sauce?
Its a creamy pumpkin type sauce (MUCH nicer than it sounds :o) with chicken, bacon, parmasen cheese, snow peas and fresh tomato in it... its very delish.
Well it was until I got pregnant... since I got pregnant just looking at it makes me want to :barf:

Not a fabulous restaurant, nowhere special. Just Decks, at South Bank.
I just love that particular gnocchi dish. I think they say the sauce is a "sherry vinegarette" and it's mixed with something else... but by god it's fabulous (the actual gnocchi itself is delicious as well!).

Ah, I only asked because I thought it might be the dish I was talking about from where DP works.
The one from Decks sounds great... might have to try it when the thought of gnocchi stops making me want to chuck up ;)
Why not make gnocchi?
It's HEAPS nicer than the bought packet stuff, which is gluey and horrible in comparison.
It's fairly easy to make too if you don't bother with all that fork-rolling business. I just roll into sausages and chop into bits!
I like to make gnocchi and then serve it in a blue cheese and cream sauce.

This is pretty close to my recipe, but I also add a little beaten egg to the mix.

Make sure you have floury type potatoes.
DO NOT use a food processor!
