I wanted to make some teething rusks for DD2 and since alot of people have asked about making home made rusks (not using bread) I decided to have a scan around the net and see what I could find.

Some recipe's contain salt, sugar and other no-no's, but I'll put them up anyway then you can decide what you want to use.

I hope these help.

1.
* 2 cups plain flour (or whatever flour you want)
* 2 tablespoons of milk free margarine/butter
* 1/2 cup milk or water (can use any milk)
* 1 teaspoon of black strap molassas (full of iron)OPTIONAL

Rub the marg into the flour until it looks like fine breadcrumbs.
Mix with soy milk to make a soft dough.
Turn onto a floured board and knead briefly.
Roll into long thin rolls and cut into pieces long enough for bubs to hold.
Place on a lightly greased tray and bake in a moderate oven (180 degrees C) for 20 minutes.
Turn over and baken on low until crisp and dried out.

2. (contains egg)
*2-1/4 C. wholewheat/white/rice flour
*1/4 C. polenta
*1/4 tsp. salt
*2 Tbs. sugar
*1 egg, lightly beaten
*3/4 C. milk/formular
Preheat oven to 160c.

*In a large bowl, stir together flour, polenta, salt & sugar.
*Add the egg & mix well.
*Blend in enough milk to form a dough that will hold together in a cohesive ball.
*On a floured surface roll into a rectangle about 1cm thick.
*Cut the dough into whatever shapes you like. I do the long rusk shape strips .
*Place on a lined tray & prick a few times with a fork.
*Bake on low for 60-80 mins, or until they are thoroughly dry & hard.

3.
*1 cup flour
*1 cup rice farex
*1 cup fruit juice

Mix together and bake in cool to moderate oven. Reduce oven temp to low to very low and dry out.

4.
*1 cup rice flour
*3 tablespoons pureed fruit or veg (for flavour)
* Enough water to make a stiff dough

Mix and roll into rusk shapes, cook in low oven until hard and dry.

well I tried the recipe with the molassas in it (I just left it out as we don't have any.)

And they turned out PERFECT!!

they do take a while to cook, but they are well worth it (because I know what's in them:thumbsup: )

I used water for the first batch, but got a little adventiorus today and used some EBM instead....they turned out even better and DD2 loves them!!

They take all of 5 min to mix up!!

Hi ladies,
I found a GREAT recipe on BH awhile back and it only takes 45 seconds!!!!

Do you feed your child bread? Well, all you need to do is take a slice of that bread, cut of the crust and roll it up. Pop in the microwave for 45 seconds on high. Done! I use wholemeal bread, but any bread is fine. :)
