Thanks in advance.

Don't know if this just adds to the confusion but my lactation consultant told me that the only way to properly sterilize at home is to install an industrial autoclave, and the only person she knows who has done this is Michael Jackson, and we don't want to go there........instead she said that rinsing in cold water, washing in very hot (but only from the tap) soapy water, rinsing in hot tap water and completely air drying is just as effective as any sterilising machine we can buy for home. she said the trick with any sterilising, whether her way or using a machine is in fact to make sure they completely air dry as it is in the water droplets that bacteria will grow, not on a dry surface. As her background was microbiology I took her at her word and we have had no dramas as a result.

Hi

I use a mircrowave sterilizer. It takes 8 minutes and they're done. I just soak them in hot soapy water for awhile then rinse off, into the microwave and presto all done. Very easy. I have had no problems at all.

Tannie,
After being bummed out about not being able to breastfeed my first child, a girlfriend put me onto an Avent Microwave steriliser. The cost of the microwave one versus electric was significant plus after talking to a few people there didn't seem to be any difference in the outsome - except the electric took longer...
It's fantastic and I would not go back to the electric ones (I had one which I borrowed from a friend - I personally found it time consuming.) The microwave sterliser is a no brainer, it is quick and easy - which is a godsend when you are sterilisling all the time.plus even my husband can use it..... :

Thanks everyone - I've ordered a Avent microwave one...draught - yes- we shouldn't really use the term sterilize - it's more strict disinfecting that we do! But as I can't afford an autoclave (what hospitals & doctors surgerys use....) I'll go with the microwave "sterilizer".

I used the Avent Microwave Steriliser for my bubs bottles and it has recently come back out of it's box ready for no 2.

One of the best things about it is the fact that you can fit different sized bottles in it. My daughter didn't like avent teats so we used the taller, slimmer bottles and they clip into the steriliser just as easily as the avent bottles. The Avent hand-held breast pump also fits in it without too much effort too.
