Hi all..... just wondering how often your bub gets the hiccups? I read in a book that hiccups are common , but frequent bouts of hiccups after 36 weeks can indicate the cord is around the baby's neck! My doctor says she hasn't heard of that before, but my bub gets the hiccups at least once or twice a day, so it's a bit of a worry!

Mellybean, my bubs had the hiccups all the time when i was pregnant, especially towards the end of the pregnancy!! Everything was fine with the baby, i have heard that too about the cord but my doctor said there was nothing to worry about!! Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and good luck with your precious new bubs!!:p

Both my boys had them all the time. It's how they exercise their lungs. Though both my boys seemed to time it, so they would get them right as I would go to bed and they'd last for around 20 minutes at a go... nice

My DS had the cord around his neck (twice.... not real bright  ) - he got the hic cups once a day - on the dot... just as I was going to bed - I seriously doubt that there is a connection - bit of a wives tale me thinks..

((hugs))

Mmm - I was worried about exactly the same thing too during my pregnancy, (always counting the number of occurences and how long they went for!!) until I asked my OB, and she allayed any fears I had.

I suppose those books have the responsibility to educate, but they go a little too far sometimes!! ;)

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and your bub's hiccups! :p

My bub would get hiccups every night while on the inside. He still gets them every night now he's on the outside!

DD1 had the hiccups at LEAST everyday while still in the womb. She did not have the cord wrapped around her neck. She kept hiccupping even after she was born (it can get quite annoying trying to attach a hiccupping baby  )

Cheers

Yep - both my girls had the hiccups at least once a day - and there was no cord around their necks. I had a lovely moment when DD1 was a couple of days old, all swaddled in a blanket and had the hiccups - the movements under the blanket looked exactly like the movements under my tummy had looked only two days earlier!
