I suspect my 8 week old daughter has reflux. The problem is she only gets it at night and only every now and then. She has had 6 bad nights with it since we have brought her home from the hospital but this week seems to be her worst. I have just started reading all the threads on how to help with reflux this week. Should i take her to the doctors or give it a week or two and see how she goes. Does reflux go away on its own?
thanks for any thoughts

Some times on it's own, If she is gaining weight and it's not effecting her appetite and isn't during the day maybe it's something else??? If it is reflux would take her to the doctor cause untreated it can cause acid damage to the oesophagus

I know that this is a difficult decision. My opinion may be controversial but i will explain.

If it's reflux and left untreated the acid burning will take a long time to heal. The pain for them is excrutiating.

To offically diagnose reflux would mean an invasive test. You will find that most dr.s diagnose reflux without this test as it's so invasive.

Reflux can get worse over time.

Also, intolerances can build up over time. That may be something you need to consider. Are your BF or FF? My DS would be worst at night time with his intolerance because of the build up of the days formula in his stomach and gut.

So the only way you will know if DD has reflux is to trial the medication for at least 2 weeks. It takes 2 weeks to work. If the symptoms you describe persist then you could rule out reflux. However, in saying this, not all reflux medications work for every baby. And sometimes the doses even need changing to help with the pain.

I guess what i'm saying is if you're prepared to trial the meds, that's the only way you may know for sure if it's reflux.

I was also very much against meds...but after seeing the change in both my boys when they had reflux- i would choose the meds over no meds ANY DAY!

Also, a paed. is the best person to see for reflux. A good one, as not all paed.s believe in reflux.

Hope this helps.

Go and see a children's osteopath or baby chiropractor, they may be able to fix it without any pain or meds. Just make sure they are qualified!
