At what age do you START to give out party loot bags??

My son's 4th birthday party is tomorrow and we have 2 one year olds coming and as I make up the party loot bags for the kids I found myself wondering do these two children REALLY need party bags or do I just put a "couple" of lollies into a bag for them as the "toys" are not quite appropriate for such a young age.

I made up ones for Coopers 2nd b'day, It was a wiggles theme, so i got some wiggles party favors etc and some lollies, the wiggles favors were good, they were quite big and not really any little fiddly bits, having said that, there were a couple of little ones there one or under(but most were older) and im assuming there parents wouldnt have given them theirs anyway, i mean am i the only one who eats the lollies out of my wee ones lolly bags??:p

I don't think they need them.....and I wouldn't expect it if my 1 year old went to a party. BUt, if you feel like you need to give them something too - a balloon as they leave, a box of sultanas, tin of baby choc custard......something like that??? Good luck!

We just got home from a 4yr old party today. My kids were both given the same things in their lolly bags, and I ate half of DS's, because the lollies were too hard for him ;) I would give all the kids the same, as they get older they have a sense of 'fairness' even if mum and dad get to eat it all. Perhaps 1 year olds don't need the toys with little pieces though.

i put roll ups and muesli bars with balloons in my 4 year old party bags last year. Maybe you could do up separate ones for babies...rusk,tin of food, baby fruit sticks........:banghead: geez is hard to think isn't it!

We have treasure bags instead of lolly bags. I usually sew up little bags from scraps and use a bit of wool to tie the top. I put little gemstones, marbles, stickers, small candles, maybe a crayon or pencil and mini notepad, bubbles, and just a couple of small lollies. No chocolate or sickly sweet things. Mums are so appreciative to receive their child at home without all the horridness associated with too much junk and the children get to play with their treasures for a whole lot longer than they would eat lollies for.
We have done the treasure hunt thing-hiding the bags in the garden and sending them off to find them. Last year for DS#1's 7th birthday we put them all in the pinata that we had made.

We have always been given party bags for our babies no matter what the age - with a nod and a wink because everyone knows that the parents eat the lollies!!

Sal - love the idea of a treasure bag - will be keeping that one in mind for the future!

Ended up just giving the bubs a bag and let mum put lollies/toys in it for them from the games they played. Thanks all for responses!
