HELLO
im just hoping to get some feed back on teething, my daughter is 4 months and constantly has her hand in her mouth... if its not her hard its anything she can get her hands on!she is always drooling and loves to munch down on my finger. now the problem is she has always been unsettled when it comes to sleep time but i have to fight with her to keep her hands out of her mouth so i can wrap her up! and i cant not wrap her because she wont sleep.even during the night she manages to wriggel out of her wrap to get her hands up to her mouth!I have ran my finger along but cant feel anything... could it be teething? she is spitting out the dummy now for her hand. Is this normal? :banghead: wot should i do about the wrapping because it gets so tiring getting up during the night just to re wrap her.
Any help would be great!

Expect to see some little teeth soon :D

Maybe she doesn't like being wrapped because she can't get her fist into her mouth, its a comfort to them when they are teething.I know this is what you explained but you are fighting against the devil iykwim
Can she sleep without wrapping? Have you tried a little panadol directly onto the gums?
We recently and still are mind you, going through this. My son started at 4 months also with teeth appearing 2 weeks later.I think he's getting more now as the hand is back in his mouth 24/7!

Don't know what else to advise, I'm sure some mums will pop in and give you some advice:thumbsup:

I use a teething elixir that a chemist in Melbourne makes...it is brilliant!
It is only for short term use but I find once the teeth are through, the worst of it is over.
The chemist also does mail orders. If you would like the details just pm me.

A completely different opinion for you - babies of that age like their hand in their mouth as it is a great sensory experience - taste, texture, shape etc. Drooling and a hand in the mouth does not necessarily mean teeth. I would stay away from the panadol and bonjela until she is showing signs of being distressed. If her only distress is about her hand then that probably doesn't mean teeth - it probably means that you need to work out how to wrap her so that her hands can still get to her mouth - or wrap her so that she can't escape (there is a wrap called the angel wrap where you tuck their hands in under a fold so that it is much harder for them to escape.)

Have you tried only wrapping her from her armpits down? That way her hands are free to chew on if she wants...and also you are starting to break the habit of wrapping which will hopefully mean a better nights sleep for you :) Neither of my bubs really liked being wrapped so I'm not sure how well that would work.

If you think she is teething maybe just try giving her panadol at night so you can get some sleep, a cranky bub is always easier to handle if you are not tired. I haven't dealt with teething really either tho, DS didn't get his first tooth til he was 17mths old, so I don't know how much help I have actually been.
I might be back in a few weeks asking about teething myself...DD is 14weeks so she could get some soon...maybe...

Thats wot i am worried about, i dont want to give my baby pannadol if its not teething... i guess im gunna have to ride it out and see:crying: she refuses to go to sleep unless she is wraped so tight.... and as soon as the wrap gets lose she wiggles her arms out and wakes her self up... its become so difficult for her to stay asleep
i did end up buying one of the velcro adjustable wraps(can remember wot it is called) but she still pulls her arms up to her face while in the wrap and knocks the dummy out... then she wakes up!! ahhhhh:banghead:
any other suggestions?

Hey ..

My DS Jack is almost 4 months old and EVERYTHING goes to his mouth... the bib.. his shirt... my finger... the toys... EVERYTHING - it is definately a developmental stage.

Your bubs COULD be teething...(although if Jack gets teeth at 4 months I will need some consoleing (sp?) as I am SO not ready for him to start growing up yet!!) ... but she could just be exporing everything around her - remember babies have I think 12 times?? the number of tastebuds we do - it is their strongest sense - so she is learning all the time... (and they just love to comfort suck on just about anything  )

I cant really help you with solutions... my DS is a tummy sleeper (which I know is naughty.. :shame: ... but he sleeps well) - and he manages to keep the dummy in as it rests against the mattress...

have you done a search on the net for different wrapping techniques?? I dont know what is out there... (didn't wrap our DS- he fought from day one to be free  )

good luck - I'd hold off on the panadol unless she is definately distressed or had a temp...
hugs

Maybe just wrap one arm out and wrap the other one in tight as normal. It might take a few nights but it can't be any worse than what is happening now - right??

Don't be too excited about teeth coming through soon - DD2 has been a hand and finger chewer for over 6 months now and drools enough to fill her bath daily but still no teeth - I wish they would hurry up, once she has teeth there are more foods I can give her :D

My little man was the same and at almost 8months he hasn't got any teeth. For ages everything was in his mouth and drool, man could he drool, but I really think it was exploration.

Over the last couple of months we have had periods where we get a bit of drooling, chewing and unsettled behavour that is relieved by gum rubbing and others with older little ones tell me it is probably his teeth moving around. He's had two white dots on his gum for about a month now and still nothing, so if nothing happens don't feel alone... I just pray when it really is teething its not any worse, I have a horrible feeling it will be.

Hey my little boy is 4 months and his teeth are just about to come through the gum, he also has his fingers in his mouth because it eases the pain.
it is impossible to wrap him and night and like your lil bub he knocks his dummy out and wakes up.
Have you tried feeling her gums? can you feel little lumps? or maybe take her to see a health nurse to determine if teeth are coming through.
bonjela wont hurt. maybe you could try some and see if she settles.

:yelclap: hope i was at some help..........
