Hi there guys
I'm 35wks pregnant and thought I should probably pack my hospital bag this weekend and got to thinking how many mums had their babes before or after their due date..
I'm pregnant with our first child and have heard that for first mums are usually late than early (which i've tried explaining to my husband that would be like having to wait extra long for christmas!)
If anyone could let me know how they went and their feelings that would be fantastic! :D

I went 10 days over. Went in to be induced but ended up going naturally.
Good luck, the waiting game is the longest ever.
I was born 9 weeks prem weighing 2lb 9ozs, 34 years ago....They didn't hold much hope for prem babies back then but they hadn't met me yet:thumbsup: I am not so little anymore:banghead:
My first born- induced at 37 weeks
Secondborn- induced at 41.5 weeks
Thirdborn-induced at 37 weeks

When my mum had me, i was 2 months early, but with my brothers, one was a bit ooverdue and the other was a week early. My sisters little boy was induced at two weeks overdue.
I dont think it follows any rules, bubs just come along when they are ready. There are meditations, and other alternative therapies that are said to encourage labour to start at the due date, I am not sure if they work though. I have decided to heve my bags packed by 32 weeks just in case!! I am working up until I am 34 weeks, hoping that bubs wont make an appearance before that (hoping bub is not as impatient as mummy)!!
I had my little ones 7 weeks premmie. They were my first, but I have heard of lots of women who go overdue with their first.:p

I was born 4 weeks early, due to my mum having high blood pressure. My daughter was born 11 weeks early for some unknown reason. I didn't even have time to pack a bag as I thought at 29 weeks I had plenty of time.

I was a month and two days late and before anyone says it isn't possible, it was the late 70's, in Darwin and they didn't have a hospital. I had also lost 2 kilos in that last month and had to be revived twice.
My DD was about a week early.

Mine have ALL been on time...Every single one of them held on for as long as they could LOL
But VERY good idea getting your bags packed now, I always had mine done a month before due date (wishful thinking LOL)
I was 3 weeks overdue (yes my Mum was SURE of her dates - Dad was away and don't worry, I look just like him ;) )
My gut told me Emily would be late and she came 10 days past her due date.
Good luck :)

Thanks everyone - very interesting - and that's amazing JenNT!!
I'm hoping our little bub will be kinda on time, we don't have our midwife antenatal class until week 37 and I'm not finishing at work until the 38th week.... I work in a skin clinic and the nurses and doctor haven't been around a women in labour for a very long time, however they reassure me they know EXACTLY what do to.... Pick up the phone and dial OOO

You sure
Darwin Hospital was built in the 1800's, had been bombed in the war, rebuilt, a wing was damaged with Cyclone Tracey built still fully operational with new wings and expansion completed in 1977.
I have just paced the staircase with the photographic history over the last 100 plus years whilst I was in labour last year

Yes I am sure and so is my mother. I had to be born at the Army hospital. Unless they lied to my mother.
Most babies are just on time to their own schedule. If term is 38-42 weeks then saying a baby born past 40 weeks is "late" or "overdue" doesn't really make sense to me. Babies come when they're cooked! And 70-80% come between 41 and 42 weeks :) All her life my mother banged on about how I had the temerity to be "10 days later". What a crock  I came on my birthday, obviously! My son was born at 41+5, I think, I can't remember LOL. Due date schmue date! Only babies know their birthdays :smiliedance: On my forums we have due months not dates and there's no pressure to perform :)

probably a case of the hospital being full whilst renovations in progress....just reading the history of the hospital...they were building a 2nd hospital to replace the old in the late 70's

Back on track...my fault!
I meant to say that whilst i was 9 weeks early, my brothers came along at 33 and 34 weeks, also early.Turns out Mum had a incompetent cervix...we busted through:D

I hadn't really packed my bags...because most of the stuff I was going to put in I was using (like clothing etc) on a day-to-day basis. Instead, I wrote a list with all the things I wanted to pack, for someone to pack for me once I was actually IN hospital (I would pack my labour bag when I was in labour...at least, that was the plan).
When I was 10 days overdue, I went into hospital to be induced...they tried twice, both failing miserably. A day shy of being 2 weeks late, I was informed that I HAD to have a c-section (and, after the procedure, was re-informed that I didn't HAVE to do anything...) the next day. So, DD was born 2 weeks late.
It was the longest 2 weeks of my life...I wish over-due babies on nobody!
...
On another note about baby sizes, my partner was born 1 month early and was 12lbs!

My dd was induced 1 week early.I was 5 days overdue and Dh was 2 weeks early. This bub will be an early 1 too as im not allowed to go over(im diabetic). The doctors routinely induce you early before bub gets too big other wise id probably end up having to have a caesarian.
I just wanted to say HI and welcome and BTW I am guessing you're due in March we have a wonderful due in March thread if you want to join us crazy march mummies!

Hi my first baby DD was 3 days over and my second baby DS was 8 days over i was induced with both.
My DD was born 12 days past her "due date". I also finished word at 38 weeks, so i was only expecting 2 weeks of waiting - ended up being almost 4!!
I think i kind of knew that i would go over, but not that long. Oh, and next time i'm telling people i'm due 2 weeks later....my phone didn't stop ringing
I was born two weeks early. But both of my son's were 5 days late.

DS1 was one week overdue. At my last Ob. appointment he advised he would induce me on Saturday if nothing had happened (this was Wednesday) & I went into labour naturally early hours of Saturday morning.
We always say DS1 wanted to choose a "special" day to arrive and his birth date is 01/02/03 - :yelclap:
DS2 was two weeks premature. He was born two days after my birthday and two weeks before my beloved Nana passed away. He had jaundice, so we were in hospital for about 10days, then I finally got to take him to see Nan (I had told her all through my pregnancy she wasnt going anywhere till she met my baby), she waited to see him & passed away the next day. :crying:

Thats awful peaceangels....my ds never got to meet my dad (his poppa) he passed away 2 weeks after Cooper was born. By the time we got out of hospital we didn't make it interstate in time :crying:
Cooper was born 4 days after his due date.........after a bit of a stretch  from my gp the day before!
Corey was 9 days over baked  , this time around I won't even get past the 38wk mark, so I guess i'll submit this one being early :D
Myself, I was a week early

I was three weeks early and so was my dad, and we were both born on the first of feb!!
My grandma almost had a heart attack with shock at the time
My first was 5 weeks early just because he wanted to come a month early.
I'm expecting anything with this one - which is why I don't believe due dates are much to go by

I was 10 days overdue with my son and was induced. But id had some contractions the night before and was getting really slight ones that morning too. If i had've been left another day or 2 i would've had him without induction.
I was one week early and was 6 pounds something.
My son was 9 days overdue and had the "average" measurements. He was 7pounds 12 ounces, 52 cms long, etc, etc.
Interesting to see what the twins measurements will be and just how early they'll arrive.
Btw my sister (who's 3 now) was born at 28 wks gestation and was 2 pounds something or other.
Please forgive me I have a bad memory these days.
I was a week overdue my dh was suppose to arrive Christmas day but came two days aferwards

I was one day early with my DS.
My DP had heard from a friend at his work that stormy weather helped to bring on labour, I didn't believe him at all, but sure enough the night I was in labour was terrible, the wind was howling and the rain belting down!!!
According to due dates (as dodgy as I think they are) I was born 2 weeks late and a 6 pounder. My DD was one week early and almost a 6 pounder!!
Love,
Nan. xx

Arrgghh I hate due dates, they really put the pressure on and way too many inductions happen for perfectly healthy babies!
I was pressured into an induction with my son who was 12 days 'overdue', he was thankfully born vaginally and without pain relief but I'll not agree to an induction for a healthy baby again.
I hate how birth seems to be so time/pressure orientated. Far out, lets just all relax and let mother nature do her work :)

My son was 5 days "overdue".
I am with you Kerrie, I hate dates. As each bub is their own special person who knows when they will come.
Maybe mums should just be monitered and left to birth naturally. What a novel idea
The waiting game is the hardest!
I was induced when i was 10 days overdue with my DS and it was the longest 10 days of my life.
I was certain that bub would be here early but when my due date came and passed I was very upset LOL!!!!
DS was 5 days late. Supposed to arrive on 31st May 03, came on 5th June 03.
DD was 5 days late. Supposed to arrive on 6th May 05, came on 11th May 05. (But had two dates, one ultrasound said the 1st May 05, which would have made her 10 days late).
I wouldn't put 100% confidence in dates - I believe every bub is different, and just like us after we're born, they develop at different rates in utero.
I was given a due date of 4/1/06 according to ultrasound, and 12/1/06 according to my last period.
Knowing my cycles had never been regular I opted to go with the ultrasound date, and insisted with the midwives that I would go sooner than that. I knew DS had been baking longer than they thought.
They tried to talk me into going with the 12/1 so I wouldn't be induced until later in January, as they're not keen on induction. I told them that even if I picked 4/1, no doctor could make me accept an induction. I also knew that if bub's came early, that he might be considered premmie if I picked the later date - which would scew up my entire birth and post-natal experience. So the 4th it was.
After telling everyone I know that although the due date was 4/1, I knew he was going to arrive just after Christmas, and definitely in 2005, I was relieved when we got to ring around on Boxing Day and tell everyone the good news ;) That I was right...
Smack bang on my due date.
But I was induced the night before, so thats kinda cheating!

Neither. Aiden came when he was ready and was born on his Birthday, so he arrived perfectly on time, as will all my future babes. :) He was born 13 days after his EDD - which is unsurprising, it's why they're Estimated Due Dates, isn't it? :D

I had both my kids at exactly 39 weeks, and the freaky thing was Aodhan was due on the 18th of jusy and I had him on the 12th, and Ciara was due on the 12th of april and I had her on the 6th........both were exactly 6 days early.
you also need to remember that predicting a due date whether by ultrasound or LKMP dates, is never an exact science. My two were always big for dates on ultrasound. With Ciara, I knew exactly when she was concieved, but the US said different.
They will arrive only when they are good and ready
My water broke when I was 23 1/2wks. I went in to hospital & just had to rest & pray I could hold Abby a bit longer.
I held on for 3 1/2wk then I had to have emergency ceasor. Abby was born at 26+5 & weighed 915grams.
She is now just over 9 1/2mths old, weighs approx 6.7kg & so far doing very well.

I was due at the end of June early July - I arrived 6 May! Even then mum was in hospital for about 2mths as I wanted to come out and play earlier! Even now I am always early for appointments never ever on time or late!!:)
When I had the girls - I went into labour the day Hannah was due and had her the next day and with Rebecca I had her 5 days early as I had to have a c/section.
First born was 9 days overdue weighing 9lb 12oz and the second was 2 weeks early weighing 10lb 1oz..... I was spot-on with my dates for both. Go figure!!

We lost our first baby at 19wk 3d. With Harriet we had to have a cerclage done which was due to come out at 37wks. I had told my OB that she was going to come early and he just laughed and kept on telling me that I would go to 41wks. Two days later at 36wks exactly I woke up with contractions. My OB was off on a skiing holiday so the OB on duty that weekend had to quickly remove the suture to allow Harriet to be born. When I went back for my checkup, I told my OB "Told you I would go early" - he just laughed and told me that I was too impatient. I hadn't even packed my bags - or gotten the nursery ready!
