My baby is 4 months old and since we brought him home from the hospital we have been wrapping him up at night. The maternal child nurse said by 4 months you should stop that and just let him sleep on his back underneath tightly tucked in bed sheets.

I tried that and it was a failure he wasn't comfortable at all and didnt sleep for long. I dont know what to do any suggestions????????????????

My girls were/are both wrapped babies. When I stopped wrapping dd1 at 6 months (because a child health nurse told one of my friends that it was child abuse  ) she stopped sleeping through, putting herself to sleep etc. So this time round with dd2 I have kept wrapping her - but I use a cotton knit wrap with lots of stretch in it so she can move around, and gradually over the last month or two (she is 6 months now) have just wrapped looser and looser. Now if she isn't ready for sleep she unwraps herself and lies in the cot playing with her toes, but if she is ready for sleep she is happy in her blanket. My personal opinion is that this is another example of you doing what you feel is right for your child, and taking what the child health nurses say with a grain of salt.

hmmm....i still wrap alice and she is 8 months. she has her arms out within minutes tho. if I don't wrap her, she keeps herself awake. i think i have created a monster! ;)
think i might start trying her under the tucked in sheets. ta! :)

Hi there
I wrapped me daughter till she was 8 mths and my son is still wrapped at 6mths. My health nurse said you can wrap them until 12 mths. With my daughter I stopped wrapping when she would unwrap herself the minute we put her to bed. Do what you think is best for you and your baby. If baby is sleeping well everyones happy

Hi Harun's mummy.
My son is only 7 weeks old so still happily wrapping.

However, I have read somewhere that if you want to get them used to being unwrapped, then you can slowly do it by wrapping but leaving one arm out, then the other arm, and so on... Or try doing what has been suggested in this forum.

I dont know if what i suggested works, but i thought i would pass this on to you anyway.

Good luck.
