Hi  i thought i would start a thread on this condition as i know nothing about it and i also have a friend from the IVF thread that has this condition with the umbilical cord too.

Can anyone give us so information on this and what we should expect?

We both found this problem out at our 20wk scan and neither have been able to get in to see or OB's and the information on the internet is really scary.

Hope someone can help

Hi

I am the friend that Sksty is talking about.

I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with twins and twin A has SUA and like Sksty said our OB's haven't been great on coming forward with lots of information for us.

I like Sksty have searched the internet and at the moment I am steering clear of looking things up about it as it is hard to find any positive information about this condition.

So if anyone has any information for us that would be great

Thank you

Carolyn

I had this and I'm fine ;)

My understanding is that it can be a "marker" for an underlying condition (often involving the heart or the kidneys I think) but many babies that have this are normal and healthy like me.

Try not to read too much online it can be very scary...I've seen a few threads on this and they generally fill up with people saying they had it or their baby had it and everything was normal :hugs:

Hi there A SUA is a common finding in pregnancy and is found in about 1% of all pregnancies. It can be associated with renal or growth problems but most just result in a healthy baby. Sometimes they may watch the growth of the baby more but this will depend on you O&G or who ever is looking after your pregnancy. Hope this helps

Thanks for that the OB said it was about a 2% chance of this so i know it's not that common really considering.

We were told the bub could have renal problems or heart problems but we don't really know what sort of problems with these things. My scan didn't show up anything except that he was small for gestation so i was to eat lots of small meals all the time as i have bad MS on top of this.

I guess it's just a wait and see game really
