Can someone please point me in the directon of some quality flat nappies? I cant afford MCNs and the terry flats I have are useless and need replaceing. I bought some cheap ones and they are soooo think and are already getting threadbare and dont last 5 seconds. Id love to find some good bamboo or hemp ones but cant seem to find what Im looking for.
Everything is so expensive but I much prefer this to using spozies.
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated as I need some more as of yesturday! ha ha

I know you are asking about flats, but baby beehinds have some good 'prefolds' they are GREAT I highly reccomend them. They have all the padding in the middle where you really need it, they are made from hemp.

yeah I saw them. I do want some. Guess im just being stingey!
Perhaps post in the wanted section of Monkey's Undies, and ask for some flats.
I think the ones I have are Dri-glo. I've had them since William and he's 4, still going strong. I don't have any left from the big girls, I turned those into cleaning cloths :)
Bits for Bots & Nurture nappies have bamboo flats

Are you good on a sewing machine meaning just basic hemming? I got a heap of flannelette (the thinner ones not the towelling) and it was like $3 a metre its really absorbant as well too and i manage to make quiet a few nappies for around $5 a dozen :) all you have to do is hem one side and measure against your other nappies :D

I got some bigger Imse Vimse organic cotton flats, I think from Nurture Nappies. They are good on a toddler butt - quite a few cms bigger than the standard 65cm flat.

Oh ok, I was of the opiinion that cotton and flannelette wouldnt be very absorbant. I do have a sewing machine, although Im yet to use it
Ill check out my local fabric shops and give it a go.
Thanks for that.

Price is a real issue with me too. I bought a Bummis starter kit (cost about $200). It was expensive, but it came with 4 nappy (PUL) covers and, from memory, about 20 prefolds. I have gradually added to this to increase my nappy covers to 8 and bought another 8 prefolds, which cost less than $100 all up.
Terries just wear out too quickly and stain and cause nappy rash IMO.
PM me if you want to know where I got mine from.

Canningvales are meant to be great, nice and thick. I have the dri-glo ones and they have been fine, but not as good quality as Canningvale or especially bamboo flats would be, I reckon (I don't have them though).
But I don't see any flat as having potential to last more then one wee- they all kinda need changing soon after that first leak, no matter what you spend IMO. Invest in some good covers if you can (Baby Beehinds ones are fab and affordable) or be like me and let bub go cover-less because the weather's warm and it looks cute :) I like flats! :D
To increase the absorbancy of your flats you can invest in some hemp or bamboo boosters and lay these in, it'll help them last a little longer.

Thanks for that. I do boost when I can but I dont have many yet, but Ill be making more very shortly. Last night I just used two nappies at once and folded and covered as usual. DId the trick, but poor Ol Josie had a huuuuuge butt! ha ha ah
I do love flats as I think they look so cute, especially when Josie isnt wearing anything else and you can see the pudgy belly.
